The private onsen was an amazing touch. Doesn't matter if you have tattoos. Massage chair down stairs for guests to use. Toiletries and such at the front desk. Staff were very helpful and friendly too!

There is only stairs, so if you have heavy luggage the staff have to bring it up the stairs for you. I didn't want them to have to do that, so we brought it up ourselves. Not a big deal, but might be difficult for others. Not accessibly friendly.

Everything. This hotel was superb. I wasn't expecting such a wonderful experience. We had private access to the baths at a convened time. It was incredible. The location was practical too. The rooms were tasteful.

Traditional and beautiful hotel. Nice staff. Great location. Comfy beds. More spacious than expected.

The walls are very thin so you could hear people coming and going - everyone was quiet and respectful though so was not a problem. We didn't realise there was no shower in the room - showers are in the onsen downstairs. You get a timed private slot and they're available late in the evening for everyone to use but in the hot weather it wasn't the greatest not being able to jump in the shower when you got back from a day out.

Amazing traditional Japanese hotel. The rooms were spacious and nicely decorated. The surrounding area was incredible, lively during day and quiet at night. The hotel was within walking distance of major spots and very close to the station connecting to Osaka. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Don't miss the offered private Onsen time, it worth it.

The location in Naramachi is quaint, very central and surrounded by restaurants, old traditional merchant houses and narrow streets. The covered market streets is also just minutes on foot away. You are at Nara Park very quickly. We esspecially liked that the hotel offers 40min. of private onsen time, so that you can go to the bath as a couple. We also had a shower/tub in the room and the western style matresses in the tatami room were very comfortable! Staff was very attentive and friendly!.

The ryokan does not offer breakfast. It was not easy finding breakfast places open before 11 o' clock. I can very much recommend aka tombo cafe. They open really early and Chris, who runs the cafe with his lovely Japanese wife, has a host of excellent sightseeing advice to offer beside excellent coffee Ina choice of yummy breakfast sets! Say hello from Claudia if you go :-)

The rooms are well laid out and the beds are very comfortable. The hot spring in incredible, definitely take advantage of it. Private booking means you can enjoy it, even if you have tattoos.

While there are several restaurants nearby, none of them are really family-oriented, and seating is limited. We ended up purchasing food from the grocery store and eating in the room. A minor quibble.

A very nice and chilling experience. We liked our traditional style room very much. Although there was no shower in the room, it had a private toilet and wash basin. It was actually more spacious than regular Japanese hotel rooms and it was very clean. The private onsen was amazing, the best of the experience after a long walk, do not miss your privage time slot. The hotel staff was very helpful and we had a great chilling time in Nara, thanks to this ryokan.

A very nice, very clean and perfectly located in Naramachi (old Nara) ryokan lodging hotel feel. Staff was friendly and helpful. They offer luggage storage. During our stay breakfast was not possible, however there are a plethora of restaurants and cafes at your finger tips. The staff offer recommendations. We had a non-self contained room and all went well. The shared bathrooms are very clean. The onsen (hot spring baths) temperature varied with one day being nice and hot and next at room temperature. Laundry facilities are available with free soap. The machines are coin operated. There are two massage chairs at the disposition of the guests, which are free. Nice and simply decorated. We highly recommend it.

We loved the traditional aesthetic of the Ryokan, the private onsen we reserved when we got there was very relaxing. We arrived a little early for check-in but we used the complementary massage chairs while we waited. Perfect after a day of walking! It is located only 100-200m from the main shopping areas where we went out for dinner. The path to and from the Ryokan has a beautiful pond which reflects the lights that surround it. Just amazing after a great dinner! The beds were very comfy and warm, the amenities were great and it was very quiet at night. What more could you want? We would definitely come here again!!

That we only booked one night!
