Location, overall space, traditional

The lower sleep arrangement is too low for adults and the property doesn’t have closet or drawers so we put everything there but every time we were looking for clothes we have to stand in a bending position which was a bit uncomfortable.

Great cottage to stay at, very large for a family of 5 with plenty of room. Location was amazing, close to the ski fields.

The futon beds, A little hard if your not use to that type of bedding.

It was nice to have a night where we could cook dinner together and have a bit of a "home away from home" experience. The outdoor bath was beautiful and we particularly enjoyed the fact that you could open a window to feel the winter wind directly.

This was our second visit to Winkel village - the first being 9 years ago. There was almost no change to the property, based off our poor foggy memory of it. The location is off-beat, which we liked. Thus it was quiet and serene. It was generally what we had expected and overall was still a fun trip.

The dated interior of the property could have been updated, the items in the house was complete but not everything was working well, although I'm sure the staff would have helped if we had given them feedback. It is also inaccessible with limited food options nearby. In short the property was a little overpriced, even our driver was surprised by the cost of it based off the looks of the unit. Winkel village will stay as a beautiful memory of our japan holiday.

we booked with winkel village and there was a snow storm warning while we were at sapporo followed by cancelled trains and our train to otaru was delayed since morning and kept cancelling, we were in constant communication with the train conductors and even they advised that the trains wont be able to run and infact wpuld be unwise to head out in the snow storm incase we get trapped. with this we started to contact them early in hope to have some understanding and flexibility due to the extreme weather, espeacilaly since we then have to take a bus to this lodge , and they do not provide any amenities (towel etc) and is not near any convenient stores it seems only wise that its not where we can be snowed in. their response were “ we wont be able the trains are delayed not cancelled so get here before the weather gets too bad to travel, if you dont know how to work the trains ask the conductors” while we understand businesses need to still run but we felt this was a reasonable circumstance to work with rather than just asking us to “travel over there before the weather gets too bad” and offered no other alternatives especially where we have no control over the transportations or the weather. we spent two extremely stressful days trying to work with the hotel staff the cancel the booking but they were so unaccomadating and frankly unkind.

Nice little house. Very cosy and very comfortable. There is a full function kitchen, a spacious bathroom with bathtub. Purposely booked a room with private onsen. Very nice facility within your own room. A bit further away from the main town but has a huge discount supermarket nearby (Trial) which we can buy food and drinks from.

Checking in time was very inconvenient. Check in time is 1500-1800 only. I tried to organise a earlier check in (11am) as we are going down to Otaru. Was only told that we cannot get the keys until 1500-1800 which defeats the purpose of us going to check in at 11am (If I can come between 1500-1800, I would have checked in at that time instead). We had to call the emergency number to get the keys then was told the room is already unlock with our keys in the room. The room is a bit of a weird drive away from the reception and the staff did not tell us where it is located when we checked in. The room was a bit stuffy. It would be nice and warm in winter but in summer the air ventilation seems to be a bit lacking. The room is also backed towards a camping area which can be a bit noisy at night.
