Everything. This place is actually paradise and we never wanted to leave even though we had more travelling left to do in Borneo - some others there at the same time as us extended their stay for the same reason. The beach is beautiful (and even had puppies). We scuba dived for the first time and saw turtles which was incredible. The snorkeling was also amazing and we saw lots of clown fish. Our room was very comfortable and had a view of the sea and Mount kinabalu in the distance. The hammocks outside the rooms and all over the resort were a great touch - we spent a lot of time snoozing in them. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the food cooked by the host, Awiee, was very tasty and was all included. Could not recommend this place more!

We didn't have a problem but due to the remote location the resort uses recycled rain water in the rooms. This means that sometimes in dry season there is no water for most of the day. At times this meant no shower after the beach before dinner. This is really just something to be aware of and wasn't an issue for us at all.

This was probably the best place we stayed in Borneo. The view from the balcony was amazing with Mount Kinabalu in the background. The food is varied and very good. It was nice it was included. You could buy soft drinks and beer with the food. Our kids loved the pancake breakfast. All the staff are nice and it is well cleaned both in the room and around the facility. It is a cozy beach with hammocks and a few swings. During our time we went on a snorkelling trip, tried diving, rented a kayak and a stand up paddle board.

There was a lot of sandflies and mosquitos so bring repellent.

We arrived at Big Fin just after a larger storm. Staff wrapped our luggage in bags and we had to swim to the resort. This is not usually how it works for them but to be honest, it was a fun adventure and it kind of made the stay that much more fun. If you want to come to this resort, it is not a fancy frills place. The bungalow are spacious, and very clean. It was warm at night but the fans worked well enough. For us, it was an amazing stay on a beautiful beach away from cities and screens. On the way back, the tide and waves were normal again and we could wade into the boat. There is some wifi but I preferred to read and relax in one of the many hammocks by the beach. I had help getting my dive certificate and appreciated the great staff who worked there like Rizman and Kindu. My first open ocean dives and I loved the variety of sea creatures I saw. Equipment was in good shape as well. The food was 3-4 items and very good. My breakfast of choice was the banana pancakes. Coffee was really good as well. They have a small selection of drinks that you can get yourself and write in a book. You pay at the end. Cash is preferred and there is an extra charge if you use cards but they do say this via the booking site. Bring mosquito repellent. They have coils around the rooms and dining area but we still got bitten. Overall, staff were very good and kind.

Not much for me....we can't control the weather and the storm. Due to the storm, there was also some rubbish on the beach. The staff clean it but there was always some left as it kept washing up small bits.

I found this place magical. I felt relaxed from the moment I stepped ashore. The common area is used for all meals and is a great place to just relax and hang out. There are games and books, and tea and coffee is available to make throughout the day. The gardens are beautifully kept and there are colourful flowers attracting all kinds of butterflies and bugs. There was a tree near our cottage that seemed to be a favourite for birds, and I managed to spot many species without leaving my hammock. Each cottage seemed to have at least one hammock, and our family room had two. The cottages are at the top of a hill (note that there are a number of stairs) which means that you get a wonderful view and a lovely the sea breeze, so the absence of air-conditioning was not a problem. From our deck you could see a massive tree in the distance that towered above the rest of the canopy and monkeys returned there every evening. Take binoculars! There was a lot to do, and it is equally possible to enjoy doing nothing. My husband and son spoke very highly of the dive staff, and they were able to cater well for the different levels of experience. Our group also used the kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. We went snorkelling off the beach, but you can also take trips. The food was excellent and plentiful. The staff were super friendly and helpful.

This was not a negative for us, but it is important to be aware that there are quite a few stairs to get to the cottages which would be a problem for people with mobility issues. Also, the electricity is only available from 5pm to 11pm so charge your camera and devices accordingly.

The food at Bigfin was amazing! The rooms were really lovely and very clean, being able to enjoy a view out over the sea from a hammock on my porch was a major highlight. The surrounding area was absolutely beautiful, a practically empty white sand beach, the sea as warm as a bath. It is a perfect place to chill out for a few days. While diving needs to be booked in advance (understandably) you can help yourself to the things you want / need on a day to day basis eg drinks, kayaks etc and tot them up on a rolling tab which you can settle at the end of your stay, the flexibility is really helpful. The lack of electricity during the day gives a lovely chance to detox from your phone / laptop etc, although I was very grateful to be able to run a fan while there was power in the night (solar charged) as it was very hot.

The only downside during my stay was when some of the dive team had a free day and got quite drunk and loud in the communal area. As the whole place is so peaceful usually, it was impossible to avoid and a little intimidating. I would also say that as a lone traveller on this occasion, while there are opportunities to interact with other guests (dinner is served at the same time for everyone), people tended to be there in couples or two friends etc so there was limited engagement with other travellers despite the odd couple who would spark up a conversation. It's probably a better place to stay if you have company already

We couldn't have been happier to stumble across this absolute paradise! From the moment you arrive you feel like you are meeting family. We loved the secluded beach, taking the kayaks out to explore the nearby islands, laying on the hammocks and sharing mealtimes with everyone. Our food was included in our stay and it was fantastic. The rooms are clean, comfortable and have the most incredible view of mount Kinabalu during sunrise. It was a real highlight of our travels in Malaysia and the perfect spot to avoid the crowds and appreciate the stunning scenery and local life. Don't hesitate to book!

Everyone was so welcoming, the food is incredible (lucky to have been there for raya the end of Ramadan), heaps of activities as well as chill out spaces. The diving was so fun - beautiful coral and so many different things to see, Kindou was really attentive and helped me get my confidence back at diving. A really amazing place to completely relax for a few days.

It’s relatively sociable but not as many solo travellers so would say if you’re not happy with your own company then plan to go with someone.

Looking for pristine beaches and easy diving without having to get to the far away/ expensive islands from Kota Kinabalu? Looking for accommodation in the beach but at the same time with plenty of nature around you? Looking for a place which promises all meals included and actually delivers? Snorkelling from the beach or kayak? We found it at Bigfin. Even though we were only one scuba diver, we and our kids (7 and 10) found plenty to do in our 4 days here. Staff is fantastic and helpful, kitchen staff get a special mention as attentive yet laid back. We felt very welcome and kept finding places and things to explore- could've easily spent a few more days kayaking to the beaches a bit further away.

The only complaint might be the prices to hire stuff (kayaks and snorkelling gear), they sometimes seemed a bit steep. For the quality of snorkelling gear available it could easily be included in the daily price. Minor quibble though, they are by no means a rip-off.

Loved the location, very isolated which was exactly what we wanted so we could relax. Weather wasn’t the best so no water sports could be done. Loved our view from our room,. Your stay here in Clyde’s all your meals so if you want snack you will to bring with you. Breakfast and dinner were tasty however lunch was either rice or noodles. Tea and coffee available all day. They also have beer, Soft drinks and gin and tonics plus filtered water. Loved our stay here. Getting to the resort( resort isn’t quite what I would call it) can be very exciting and wet in choppy seas but it all added to the adventure of the place. You also get to meet some lovely people. Loved it

I was very disappointed with the amount of rubbish on the beach although they make a sad attempt to clean a small section of the beach in front of the resort the rest is littered with rubbish and left over building material and general waste. So sad as this could be so much more if they made the effort to keep their beach clean and tidy. You only have to walk 5 minutes along the beach to see it. A little more pride in your country and your environment would see you all reaping the rewards. Ran out of beer OMG. Chef was a bit grumpy, but the boat boys and ladies were so lovely.

Nice place, away from everything. Reaching the lodge by boat was an adventure by itself. Basic but nice bungalow with beautiful views. We liked the shared area (the views!!) and we liked sharing meal time and chatting with other guests. Wifi only at the shared area. Not in the bungalows. Due to the location, electricity is only available at certain time of the day but fans work all day and night.

The staff was ok, not as friendly as other places we stayed on Borneo. No A/C. We are usually fine with no A/C but this time it was very hot in the bungalow. We had the family bungalow with two bunk beds. It was so hot by the top beds. The fan was not enough to cool down…
