Good size room. and bathroom. Efficient reception and friendly housekeeping staff. Broad range and plentiful breakfast buffet offering. When we booked our room we thought we had struck the best deal ever on Booking.com for a stay at a Shangri-la Resort chain but it wasn't for the resort. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Some restaurants around the hotel but you might need to walk a bit further for the night food market or other restaurant selections.

Not the hotel's responsibility but we had a city water main repair during an afternoon of our stay. I trust this does not happen often

Smooth check in process. Completed with iron and ironing board, spacious for two and good breakfast spread. The coffee is nice to kick off your day.

Air conditioning. seem we can't adjust the temp to our liking (or probably we didn't really know how to use it).

It was very well maintained even though it was an older hotel compared to other nearby hotels. Facilities wise, nothing over the top. Same as other hotel.. location was quite good, walking distance to Filipino Market, Suria Sabah n the daily night market. We were having our simple wedding anniversary getaway.. n the staff made the room a little extra special with the specially folded towels that were shaped like swans.. Oh.. I left some tips for housekeeping but they didn't take it.. thats a really nice suprise😅

We ordered room service for a late supper but unfortunately the fish n chips were a little disappointing 😔

1. Big room. Nice and clean. Loved the bath in the bathroom, which I really needed as I was trying to recover from climbing My Kinabulu and my legs really hurt and I needed the soak. 2. Price was cheap for what I got. Bargain! 3. Free WiFi,air con,kettle, hairdryer. Basically everything I needed.

1. There was a gecko in my room on one of the two nights I stayed there. I phoned reception and they sent a member of staff to promptly remove it. I really appreciated this! Otherwise I would have spent the entire night staring at it.

When I booked the hotel room, I specifically mentioned that I am a wheelchair user and would need a room that is wheelchair accessible. The hotel management replied, assuring me that they would provide that at no extra charge. However, when I arrived at the hotel, the reception counter informed me that the wheelchair-accessible room was occupied, and I was given another room in which I couldn't move around at all. It was only after I lodged a complaint that I was finally given the supposedly 'occupied' wheelchair-accessible room. This experience was very disturbing and caused significant trouble for me, and I hope that such incidents can be avoided in the future.

Everything from Check-in process untill Check out i love so much. Out from my expectations actually including the Hotel look itself, staff and the room. I requested to have honeymoon decoration and what impressed me the staff name Ira gave me free of charges for honeymoon decoration! Im so happy and appreciate for the free service for me and wife. Decoration also very good even just a simple one but because of they gave me free im so grateful for it. Room also i got shocked because I thought it was simple room but when i enter the room i was like “wow?”. Well Done Hotel Shangri-la Kota Kinabalu. The hotel is close to the city center. The building is one of the oldest in town and although its partly renovated it kept its original character. The rates are very affordable and the price/performance is excellent. The hotel stands out in its breakfast/lunch and dining options, again at very affordable pricelevels. It has overall a cosy atmosphere. Due to this excellent price/performance it can be busy and during our stay we experienced some noice on the hallway caused by other guest, but this can happen in any hotel. At checking out we mentioned this at the reception desk and the staff immediately reported this to the management. After making their apologees the management offered us a breakfast and took the time to listen to our experience. They also arranged free transportation to our next destination north of Kota Kinabalu. In our many travels we have never experienced such a 5-star service at a 3-star hotel. If you are seeking an affordable hotel in KK with excellent service and where the management and staff realy cares about their guest, we can highly recommend this hotel. Overall, based on our experience, we give Hotel Shangri-la a 9.0 rating.

The room is not soundproof. You can clearly hear the vehicles passing by the road, people upstairs walking. The bathroom a bit risky for elderly or people with bad balancing since you need to step into high bathtub wall (for me, because I'm short) to shower. Breakfast buffet choice quite limited.

Great position and helpful staff.

We went down to the restaurant for dinner one night, when clearly the stag had taken the night off because there wasn't a tour group in and out was like a night at fawlty towers..... everything went wrong, the food was terrible ab some studiously suspicious activity around the service of beer. 3 partially opened bottles of beer bought to the table and opened at the table only to find they were filled with water.....
