This was my second time staying at Ama-La, because I loved it so much the first time. Ama-La is located in a fantastic location in Thamel. It is easy walking distance to exchange money, get any last minute trekking items, and a multitude of restaurants and grocery stores. The staff at Ama-La are amazing. They are all so friendly and welcoming, and will help you with anything you need. Ram, the Manager, is so lovely and really looked out for me following my hospital stay due to altitude sickness on the trek. I was able to book and stay additional nights at the hotel last minute, and the hotel helped me organise a taxi back to the hospital for a further appointment. Ama-La has an amazing rooftop which is perfect for a morning coffee, to read your book, or have an afternoon beer. On a clear day you can even see the mountains! Thamel can be a busy location, but Ama-La gives you a sense of peace and quiet. It is a fantastic place to stay pre and post trek. I wouldn't stay anywhere else!

The staff were extremely helpful with making sure our stay was comfortable and they also offer advice for Kathmandu and onward travel. The location is great on the Main Street and near restaurants, shops and a mini market for water etc, the view from the rooftop is one of the best and they serve food and drinks. Room was spotless, comfortable and big. Shower facilities worked brilliantly with hot and cold water. If it’s your first time in Kathmandu this would be the perfect place to stay, if not first time then stay anyway, we stayed in another hotel our previous time and it did not compare to this. If we come again we will stay here. Thank you to all staff :-)!

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Thamel, the hotel is within walking distance of all the best cafes, restaurants, shops, and cultural sites. It’s the ideal base for exploring the lively streets of Kathmandu while still being a peaceful retreat when you want to escape the city’s hustle. My room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped, providing a perfect space to relax after a day of sightseeing. I especially loved the rooftop terrace, where I could unwind with a great view of the city. If you’re looking for a place with excellent service, a prime location, and a welcoming atmosphere, this hotel is an absolute gem! I can’t wait to return on my next visit to Kathmandu.

Very pleased with our stay at Hotel Ama-la. Breakfast was delicious and in house coffee was above my expectations (for an Australian coffee lover). The location was fantastic down a quiet alley but very close to the heart of Thamel area. The room was comfortable and had beautiful warm lighting, double glazed windows and very warm. It was also nice and quiet which was good because we had a baby with us. I would also say it was very safe for young kids, baby and toddler could roam around the room with no problems of sharp edges or other dangers. Bed was super comfortable and warm. Hot water also very luxurious!! There is a beautiful rooftop as well where you can see all of the city and enjoy a drink, it’s also safe for kids. The staff were extremely polite and went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay. They are very kind and trustworthy, the hotel is owned by a Tibetan family who were very hospitable to us and sweet to the kids. Very clean very comfortable stay I am very happy with our stay and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a great stay in Kathmandu!!!

Everything! The room, the surroundings and especially the staff. They were so helpful and so supportive. We had a problem with a parcel that we send from Nepal to Europe and the manager and the rest of the staff took the time to help us, even if we had already checked out, and went in person to the post office to help us out. We are so grateful and so amazed by the beautiful gesture. This tells a lot about the hotel, since it’s not the facilities that makes a place special, but the people working there ☺️

The staff was very friendly from the front desk person to the chef and the manager, Ram! They made sure I was happy, taken care of with a nice room, good food, and transportation. They really went above and beyond! The room was also very spacious (couch and small kitchen, plus large bed and bathroom). The bed was comfortable and the chicken sandwich and breakfast I had was delicious. They coordinated the airport pick-up which was very smooth, easy, and we didn't even get stuck in any traffic. I needed to purchase gear for my trek and the location was in the heart of Thamel - making it very easy to do so. I had a wonderful trip and a wonderful time staying at Hotel Ama-La!

Too expensive.... paid 12,000 nepalise rupees for bottle of whiskey... from outside is only 3,500... also did not get late checkout they still charged me for one night extra... complete ripp off
