A newly refurbished room that was much nicer/cleaner that other older motels we've stayed at recently; kudos to the owner/operator for a job well done. Having a heat pump instead of an 'old-fashioned' bar heater was appreciated (and much more effective/energy-efficient). Good quality curtain fabrics, thoughtful execution of the room layout, and more -- all well done.

Unfortunately, as in most NZ motels, there was not a fan in the shower room, which meant that it steamed up more than necessary. This will cause problems in the long run, so it would be good if a fan was added to reduce future maintenance and increase user comfort. The absence of a fan did not cause us any discomfort, it is only a feature that we (as former B&B owners ourselves) know will pay dividends in the future.

For a lower cost motel, it was very good value as the room we were in had very recently been renovated and was super nice and well appointed. The host was super helpful with an issue we had and gave a great dinner recommendation (Casa Fuego). The location was on the end of the downtown and we were able to walk to dinner. It had been a hot day and the air conditioning was a pleasure.

This was probably down to my room choice but we ended up having to sleep on the fold out sofa bed. (I thought I had chosen a unit with 2 full beds as we were 2 couples traveling together). The sofa was great, but the bed itself was a typical old school sofa bed that would better suit one small child rather than an adult couple. Everything else was great; just make sure to get the right bed configuration!

Easy to find on the main road, plenty of off-street parking, and comfortable bed would stay there again. We are dairy-free and had asked for soy or dairy alternative milk; the host was fantastic and provided it. It made a world of difference to have a hot coffee in the morning with a milk alternative on a public holiday when other choices were not open. I truly appreciated it.

I really liked everything the spa bath was an older model but worked and was nice, overall no complaints wish I had longer to stay there.

Location on main street but right in the middle of town was perfect, easy to walk to town and walkways etc plus no problem getting in or out of driveway. Parking on site was great. Large, comfy room with good facilities all provided and excellent beds. Recommend as a place to stay.

There was nothing we didn't like about The Highway Lodge Motel.

The owners and staff where great. Left my hand bag behind, they notified me and arranged the postage of the handbag on to a later destination. Apart from that added service, everyone was friendly and the location was great. Generally the property was well presented and well cared for. Certainly the owners when beyond what would normally be expected. A special thanks to them. A good coffee shop close by and some good eating places within a short car ride or reasonable walking distance. LGA across the road.

the property is a little bit older, but don’t let that put you off - it’s very comfortable, the rooms are well equipped, and the host is very friendly/helpful - suited me perfectly as a place for 7 days to get some work done, WiFi is excellent - and it’s only 5kms out of Oamaru where there’s lots to see, and the scenic sights up to Duntroon are not far to drive 👍

there’s a bit of road noise, but didn’t interrupt my sleep 😴

The Motel is run in an excellent manner. The rooms are spotless. The kitchen was light and bright with a full oven, microwave etc. Extra towels in the draw. We had an adjoining room and never heard a sound from our neighbors. Great location and handy to heading out to Kaka Point, Owaka and Pounawea or down to the Catlins. eat pump in the room which we used to cool the room as it was a very warm evening.

Nothing we were very happy with our accomodation.

Staff were very pleasant. Loved the king bed so comfy, and we had a wonderful sleep. The spa was lovely. I liked the option of an open shower 🚿 too. The kitchenette had all I needed. The TV worked great. I didn't have to play around with channels. Chairs were high-backed and comfortable. The room was right next to the road but didn't hear a thing, even with the trucks.

Perfect location can walk to shops and takeaway. The staff was so helpful with my needs.

One room was cold during the night even with heating source in the living room it wasn't enough for the room. Also the sofa couch that turn into a bed was so uncomfortable to sleep on I had a sore body the next day so I just left it as a couch to sleep on.

Nice modern rooms with lovely comfortable beds. Beautiful snuggly extra blankets provided and great modern kitchen and bathroom facilities. Lovely friendly staff who were very helpful. Would definitely stay again. Lovely and close to fabulous coastal scenery too.
