We recently spent 3 nights at the Phoenix Resort motel for a weekend away in Taupō. An older style motel with a lovely outlook to the garden and across to the lake. Our room was spacious and very clean, generous kitchen with kitchen facilities including dishwasher. The queen bed was comfortable with good quality linen, and we were kept very cosy with the heat pump. The hotelier was very friendly and helpful, making sure we had every thing we needed for our stay, with excellent recommendations for places to eat and also sights to see. The rooms have their own private thermal pool, and it was lovely. We would definitely stay here again when we come visit Taupō again. Thank for having us!

The only downside to our stay was our thermal pool had a slow leak from the plug. The owner wqs very apologetic and though not completely resolved he was quick to remedy this to a satisfactory outcome

Spa was mostly private, loved that it was outdoors. The view from the balcony was amazing, the entire place (bar the fence out the back) is well maintained, and the room, beds, and spa were clean. Greeted nicely on arrival and enjoyed the conversation as I was shown to our room. Gracious and courteous hosts. =)

* We felt a little rude playing quiet music in the spa for us to relax with, the people next door's spa possibly could hear it too which felt a bit awkward. We didn't want to ruin someone else's experience, but also wanted to enjoy our own experience. * There was no scouring pad for us to be able to clean off the kitchen tray properly, and the ice cube makers leaked into the freezer due to cracks in their structure. * Should be able to cast, or stream, to the TV's, but this is not possible here. We ended up watching our shows on our tablet instead of the big screen... trivial matter really, but it did impact on the enjoyment of the experience here.

Easy to find, private mineral hot pool is basic but a real luxury to have after a long drive, great comfortable bed. Basic Sky package, decent TV for watching the rugby was important and we were able to get food delivered, easily; people know where it is. Very friendly, welcoming staff; stayed here 1 night on the way down to Wellington from Auckland and again on the way back, both times they walked me to my room and showed me all the amenities before handing me the keys and wishing me a good evening, very sweet.

No issues with it, really; it's a little old and tired and basic but they have upgraded/modernised what they can and it's pretty good value for money given there is a private minera spal pool for each room!

Beautiful property once you enter the premises, the rooms are a little outdated but it’s very cosy and has what you need, the car park looks a little run down but with some fixing up and maybe some paint and plants on the fence it would look just as beautiful as the courtyard

Maybe the parking once it got full it was a little hard to navigate as people did not park nicely, also once you turn up the place looks very run down from the front but once you enter the courtyard you see the beauty of it all

Its important to note I booked a room with a Thermall spa/pool and it was soooooooooooo awesome!!! I used it every night and would definitely stay here again. The staff was wonderful and actually attending to the beautiful garden in the middle of the property upon my arrival. My room was clean and included a well stocked kitchen area (fridge, stove, pots/pans, coffee/cream, etc.). Now it is an older property so please do not expect the Marriott, however, if you want a unique experience with an insanely beautiful garden area, this is your property. It is important to note it is a short drive to the city center, but I was able to walk 20-30 minutes to nearby pub which is along the lake with wonderful views. DEFINITELY GET THE THERMAL TUB IF YOU"RE ABLE!!!!

Large rooms. Beds were very comfortable. Shower was great. Good range of amenities in the kitchen. great to have individual aircon units in each of the bedrooms and was surprised about the 2nd TV in the master bedroom. Nice view from the balcony.

Couldn't fill the private pool when you wanted to due to others using water. Had to wait but was good when water was available. Linen for sofa bed was not in the room and by the time we went to set up the bed reception was closed. Didnt realise we had to stipulate that we wanted to use. it was advertised in listing as a sleeping option.

We were met at the front door and taken to our room so the hand over was really great. The accommodation was very clean and the bed amazingly comfortable. A large screen TV on a swivel was really helpful as well. The manager had put the heater on and set up the spa pool ready for our arrival. The units look out onto beautifully kept gardens and the place felt very secure. There is minimal road noise for a place that is on a main road.

What a gem, the comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen with full size fridge, the heated towel rails the awesome hot private spa. The staff lovely and polite, the cleanliness and the price!

There as nothing we didn't like place is fantastic. Difficult to give a glowing review as others will now book but this place is great yes its off the beaten track away from town centre but it's just a short drive

Tony is such a lovely host. I had a lovely room with balcony and a mineral spa! Great to sit on the balcony and catch the lake views and amazing sunset. Mineral spa is such a bonus to soak away your tiredness from travel. The room was super clean and every facility was great. Right across from lake Taupo meant that lakeside walks and to the center was very handy. Thank you Tony!

If I was being really fussy, then maybe some more power outlets upstairs for charging phone etc.

Loved everything about staying here. Great size and spotlessly clean, and close to everything abd lake walk across the road. Warm welcome with everything explained and tips given for places to visit. Having our own thermal pool was great as it saved us going out to go to one. Comfy king size bed. Nice and quiet, with a great garden that has seating and a trampoline for children. Parking right outside the back door, deck out the front facing garden. Loved it so much we've booked again to stay here.
