The rooms are super clean and very comfortable, with excellent housekeeping. The location is a bit far from the town but it’s just 5 mins to everything you need on a scooter. We enjoyed some nice restaurants nearby (Myst, Guitar Woodhouse & BarWoo we’d recommend!). The pool was nice with towels provided.

There were a few oddities which we feel took the luxury away from this hotel. You have to pay a cash deposit, and the room key has to be handed in any time you go out. It means you can’t leave your room to cool if going out for an evening meal. We felt the restaurant wasn’t as good as the reviews here - for example we paid 350 pesos for breakfast yet got charged extra for milk for our tea. This comes in a jug which holds only about 20 ml and they charge you 20 peso for it… 1 peso per ml of milk seems odd when any other hotel would provide this with the tea as a standard! The outside gym didn’t have free weights like the photos, just pull up bars and one kettlebell which was a shame. In general is a very nice hotel, but would say it feels more like a 3 star.

You can definitely feel that Selectum Mangrove is the result of effort and love. The place has been built by the owners from scratch and has a beautiful garden with pool that make you feel like home. The place is really quiet and you can see the fireflies in a tree inside their garden by night. Michel and Sorina will do everything to make sure you have a great experience, they helped us grabbing trycicles, told us what were the best beaches to visit and received us last minute and prepared everything to make sure we were comfortable. Breakfast was also really nice with plenty of choices. This place is not exactly in the centre of Alona (maybe 5 minutes by motorbike) and that is also what makes it so quiet and special. Such a pleasant place to stay. One of those places where you make friends along the way. Looking forward to repeat the experience.

Calm and peaceful location but easy and very cheap access to beaches and town. The resort is run by the owners - a warm and friendly European couple who have taken great pains to create an environmentally friendly property meeting the needs of those wanting a relaxed and quite environment that is within easy access (5 minute request and very cheap transport). Healthy and reasonably priced food made to order. Three very friendly dogs and one shy but well intentioned cat are part of the management team. Highly recommended.

Nonething within the control of the owner - The Philippines is The Philippines and it is what it is.

I arrived to the hotel straight from a hospital, and it was clear I couldn’t have found a better place where to recover from dengue fever. The owners and the staff were always warm and friendly and made everything to make my stay as good as possible. They even brought me medicine from the pharmacy when I was too weak to go there by myself and made me papaya leaf juice. My room was clean, bed comfortable, pillows good and AC was working perfectly. Garden is beautiful, well kept and full of beautiful details. And I just loved the pool! Neighborhood is quiet, perfect for relaxing, I got the best night sleep I had in Philippines.The hotel is only 5 minutes from Alona with a scooter or tricycle. There are also restaurants in walking distance but there’s no need to leave the hotel because they also cook delicious food there! I had the best shrimp pasta and really enjoyed their fitness breakfast with fresh fruits (after I got my appetite back). Thank you all so much for taking such a good care of me!

I didn’t like I had to leave when I finally started to feel better after dengue fever.

The hosts, Sorina and Mihai, and the staff were super helpful and gave us all the information we needed to be able to explore the best spots on the Island and beyond. There is nothing that they can’t arrange for you, from motorbike, boat tours, breakfast, drinks to laundry. The always greeted us with a smile and made us feel welcome. I feel like i made a friend Whilst visiting the island we were also working so it was very important to have good internet connection and we did, and trust me is hard to find stable connection in hotels in the Philippines. My boyfriend loves to swim in the morning to start his day, so the pool was perfect for lengths as the pool is a decent size. The room was cleaned everyday to a high standard, which is also not always common in the Philippines.

Equipment is extraordinary，especially the brand of air condition is sumsung，which is new and quiet. I can sleep very well because of quiet environment. Main road is so noisy，but I can only hear dog and cocks's voice. The Garden is extremely beautiful，swimming pool is large enough，but there's no mosquito to bother me. The hosts is extremely helpful and nice.My English is not so fluently, hosts spoke to me slowly several times in order made me understood, I am.worried about no quilt in phipippine ususally，She give a Blanket to me, which.prevent me get cold under A.C. When I had a stomach ill，Claudia suggested me drink hot lemon water and made it for me; When I can not eat Raw & cold food which is common in Philippine，She made Boiled Vegetables Soup for me in 6am，Which means she get up at 5.am for me，to made me catch the cabilao diving tour. Her husband is also nice，he is so strong because he do gym everyday maximum 1 hour. He borrow a foam roller to me，to decrease my back ache. The price of laundry is really a bargin，100p/Kg，I am astonished. In a word，Selectum Mangrove resort is a family resort you would not like to miss in your hololidy！

A little far away to Alona Beach，where is my diving Shopping to leave for diving tour，But hosts will help you to call a tutu（tricycle），it is affordable，150p.

We come to Bohol island in third week of our trip. When we choose Selectum Mangrove Rresort do not think a lot about our choise, but the place and owners exceeded our expectations. So why now we will talk just about good things, because we do not have to say nothing bad. - Cleanliness. We think that the owner is simply crazy about it. Considering the whole trip in the Philippines, this is the cleanest hoter/apartament we have been. Cleanliness not only in the room, but also in the entire area. - The staff. Owners Sorina and Michel are europeans creating a business in the Philippines. So the place and aura reminds us home, which was very nice to feel in the middle of the trip. The staff is very friendly and polite, the girls are always smiling and ready to help. - Food. The food is prepared either by the owners or by the girls. The kitchen is European. We ate schnitzel a few times and it was perfect after all the Filipino food. :) Also they recommend really nice filipino food place - Jose restaurant. Thant place changed our opinion about Filipine cuisine in the good way. - - Helpfulness. You will get everything you need at the resort. They can call you a tuk tuk, rent you a scooter, order ferry tickets, a car for transfer, wash your clothes, cook for you. All you have to do is just ask. In any case, the main thanks go to Sorina and Michel, for that time they spent with us, for evenings and conversations, for company while sailing Kayaks, for company when traveling to monkeys and waterfalls (Sorina remember that 300 steps?:), to Michel for the opportunity to meet Arnis master and have a 4-hour workshop with locals. In conclusion, it was realy nice week in Panglao, will come back next year with friends. Hope to see you all again.(Sorina and Michel maybe sooner somewhere in Europe.:)

I very much liked this resort and will return. So much to appreciate. I felt very comfortable there. First the staff, Denise and her team were very efficient friendly and helpful. Nice cafe on site, good varied menu, served nicely, cooked fresh, tasty. Open 7am until 8.30pm. Breakfasts are good, especially if you order something with the homemade cottage cheese, chicken liver pate and blue berry jam with brown toasted when bread! Yummieee. My room was very pleasant, quiet, nicely decorated, fresh and clean, comfortable double bed, effective and quiet aircon, en-suite shower room which is modern, clean and works well, but I couldn’t get warm/hot water for my shower. If you want a quiet place, away from Alona but within a short ride then this is a place to consider. Highly rated.

Watch out for the tuk tuk drivers, they wanted 150 pesos for 100 pesos ride for same distance to Alona area from other resorts. Confirm the price before you ride. The resort is off the main road, maybe some 200/250 metres down an unmade track, which I walked without any difficulty. But again beware the tuk2 and habel2 drivers, some of whom drop you at the main road, saying the track is too rough for their tyres, which it is not. Again before you ride get them to agree they will take you down the track and drop off right outside the resort.

The rooms are cleaned every day (you can ask not to if you feel you want more privacy), the food is home cooked (recommend the chicken schnitzel), the staff is super friendly and the owners are super hospitable and always happy to make your stay more comfortable, all you need to do is ask. There's gym gear (just ask, it's not always out), there can be music (again, just ask), there are sun loungers, the pool is lovely, there is food and there are drinks. You want different options, the owners are always happy to guide you to the best restaurants. Moreover, they can book transport for you, help you rent a scooter or book guided tours. The location is a 10-minute walk away from the beach, and you want to reach Alona Beach it's a 25-minute walk or 5 minutes in the tricycle. Sorina and Mihai were super lovely, and we loved to stay at their resort.

We had a wonderful stay with Sorina and Mihai. They are fantastic hosts, are there to help and advise, give lots of tips and we spent lovely evenings with them. Many thanks for that! The two recommended great restaurants and are happy to help organize excursions. We were also treated to the papaya and mangoes growing in the garden, homemade mango jam and tiramisu. They are also happy to give tips for unusual undertakings, away from the usual tourist tours. For example, we were shooting nearby and had a lot of fun! The rooms are very nice, well equipped and very clean. We also did not have any insects in the room. In general, everything is very well maintained and clean. The air conditioning works very well, the water pressure is great and there is hot water. The wifi was the best we had in the Philippines! The staff is very accommodating and friendly. And it is very safe, a security comes in the evening. The pool is great, a real oasis of well-being, and big enough to swim real laps. In the evening you can watch fireflies. There is also a well-equipped fitness area (dumbbells, barbells, TRX bands, etc.). If you feel like it, you can join Mihai's morning workout, sort of a personal training. The food is fantastic! Be sure to try the pasta and pancakes. Alona Beach is about 5 minutes away by scooter. We would come back anytime and can heartily recommend the accommodation.
