Friendly, helpful staff, great location, eclectic rooms and nice breakfast. Welcome drink on arrival was a nice surprise. Parking was very easy either on the street or outside the hotel.

No individual soaps, shampoo or conditioner… only “bulk” containers in shower and next to sink. Only one choice of firmness for pillows on the bed and no milk for the complimentary coffee!! If driving be prepared for some very narrow streets, pedestrians and sharp turns getting back to the main avenue.

Only our second time staying but already booked for new years! We needed a place for me to recover and such an excellent choice. From our warmest of welcomes - mini pastel and glorious fruit juice. And the our relaxing and generous room B403. Joel the restaurant manager is a delight and made us so very very welcome. Very courteous but mischievous also in such a perfect match of service and kindness with fun. Eddy the quiet one but misses nothing and great service too. Dinner was delicious and so lovely to enjoy the outdoor space. Breakfast buffet perfect to our tastes and served by the very attentive Miguel and Vittoria. Bruno helped us with a couple of issues in our bedroom - so helpful and thoughtful. The hospitality and attention to detail is 5 star but the staff make this place very special. See you in December.

Located in the historical town of Coimbra, this hotel has convenient (although limited) free parking on the main road. The Staff was extremely kind. We were greeted with some refreshments upon our arrival. A really nice gesture after a long road trip. Every room is themed after a writer, we had books in our room, a leaflet with a bedtime story and complimentary water… and the bed time chocolate. Our room was spotless, spacious and very nicely decorated with amazing river views. Breakfast, served on wooden tables, had a great variety of sweet and savory. Everything was delicious. The entire hotel is decorated like a home, so every corner makes you feel at home!

The hotel is perfectly located next to the University and famous Joanina Library. The National Museum Machado de Castro is only a 7min walk away. The hotel sits right on top of the town so the views from the rooftop are amazing. Getting downtown to visit the many restaurants and other historic sites is an 8min walk through lovely narrow streets. If you have mobility issues you may want to take a taxi downtown, taxis here work on a meter and are reasonably priced. I enjoyed the walking very much. The hotel is lovely; rooms are large and airy with modern fittings and very clean. On arrival I was given a welcome port and Portuguese tart and each night at 6pm there is a happy hour where you can try their own wine. The meal I had in their restaurant sitting outside in their beautiful courtyard was absolutely delicious and the staff are attentive and friendly. I would stay here again.

1st of all most of the staff are super friendly & engage in explaining the property, the area the food & are extremely service orientated. I have to say however there was one person on the early breakfast that was not up to the standard of the rest and let's leave it there perhaps that person was having a bad week. The location is an 8 minute walk from our office & downtown Coimbra & the steep walk back keeps you fit. The property is very artistic & modern & the food for the size of the hotel is also very good , as is the house wine & coffee.

As mentioned earlier just 1 of the staff was not up to the service orientation of the others. Our room was very nice except the bed is on a slightly different level to the rest of the apartment but they is no colour difference so both my partner & I had a couple of false steps. The toilet is very low which for us older folks is a bit of a drop. I mentioned this also on my checkout & the staff were cognizant & points well noted.

We really enjoyed our stay at Sapientia. The stuff was super nice, great food and as we travelled with our little kids we really appreciated the openening hours of the restaurant and the possibilty of having a very early breakfast. We had a very nice family suite. The furnishing was unique and with a lot of nice details (such as a short notice with the tea). Our boys also enjoyed the little turtle in the garden. In summer the terrace and the roof top terrace surely are awesome

We really don't have to criticise anything. The only point which would have been nice was having a drink at the sofa lounge, but we were also happy with having the drinks at the restaurant.

Breakfast was wonderful, the location of the hotel was great. The restaurant staff were personable and helpful. We had dinner in the 1st night and it was delicious. FYI you need a reservation so if you are coming in late be sure to book dinner ahead.

Our room was a problem. It was so small that when I got out of bed I hit our heads on a steel beam. The next night we moved the bed as far over to the window as possible. Still we had to put something hanging down from the beam to protect us. I think we got the last room. It was clean, but extremely small. The bathroom is part of the room. I couldn't tell on booking that the shower is clear glass in the room next to the bed. The toilet is closed in by frosted glass and a hard to close glass door. Just make sure you don't get this room if you are taller than 5 feet. Otherwise it is a great hotel.

Beautifully appointed hotel with a natural wood/stone decor and high attention to detail. Stunning rooftop views of Coimbra. Nice touches aplenty such as the free wine-hour at 6pm when the University bell rings. Very well-trained and friendly staff - in particular the welcome was excellent with a glass of port on the terrace and the attentive but not obtrusive dinner service led by the knowledgeable and friendly Joel was exceptional.

We stayed in a 2 room suite with a bathroom modular "Pod" in one of the rooms. The style andc design of the modular room was to a high standard but using the lo in the night distrubed our son who was sleeping in the surrounding bedroom at the time.

The hotel is in perfect location for tourists. Walking distance to all the sites. The room was spacious and very comfortable and the breakfast was nicely done.

Two things: 1- the hotel provided a small box of tissues (only have 5 tissues) when we arrived and no replacement for the duration of our stay (3 nights). 2 - the toilet paper roll was very small the no extra at the room. I had to ask for more in the morning of our last day. My suggestion is to have couple of extra rolls in the bathroom.

Clean modern hotel. Small but modern and quiet room. The location near the University and the old town was great. Nice to have a free glass of wine in the evening. Lovely courtyard for lunch and wine. Good recommendation and reservation for dinner.

Parking is difficult and the staff offers little help. We did find free street parking about 10 minutes away. The check-in pushed for a time for breakfast right after we had been stressed out with the parking situation. Not enough accessible plugs in the room especially using an adapter.
