Very clean and good facilities. Everything you could want in a hostel. I came on a night where there was no attendant. But instructions were very clear and it was easy for me to get in and get my key. There was a place to wash clothes outside in the back which was fine but the drying rack was outside and my clothes did not dry. Everything else is very nicely appointed. A dining room, a living room, I well equipped kitchen.

The bathroom was coed and not really discreet. Thankfully no one came in while I was showering or dressing. But it's 2 showers that open to a small area not big enough to dress in. I ended up going into the bathroom stall for some privacy. Wish there was a place to dry your clothes inside as it was damp during the night and my clothes did not dry. In the center of town, so unfortunately there was a lot of noise on the street until after midnight.

The hostel was clean, and centrally located. I appreciated that the person working wrote on a printed map to direct me to a local restaurant and where the Camino continued. That restaurant had the best pilgrim meal of my entire Camino! We had a private 2 twin bed room that felt comfortable.

If you reserve the family room, there is fine print that the room you don’t take (connected by the private bathroom, locked to the other person) will be offered to another traveler. If you take the twin room, this means there is an opaque glass wall between the toilet and another guest’s room. It felt a bit vulnerable but still a solid choice for a Camino stay. I would stay again.

After I checked in on October 23, 2023 and looked around, I knew that I wanted to extend my stay beyond three nights, so I made another reservation for an additional two nights. My decision turned out to be a good one because this hostel is clean, organized and friendly. It turned out to be raining heavily during most of my stay, so I spent a lot of time in the hostel. The common areas were wonderful and I felt as if I was at home. The Fishtail Sea House is a short walk to two large grocery stores and many restaurants. The beach with its gorgeous sunsets are just a few blocks away. The 500 bus to Porto and the 120 bus to the airport are just down at the corner, less than a block away. Paula, along with Bruno, run the hostel. Paula is gracious and very competent. You just knew that if there was ever an issue that came up, Paula would take care of everything. That's a wonderful feeling when you're traveling alone. I enjoyed my stay immensely and plan to return here to stay on my next trip to Matasinhos!

The beds were excellent and offered a lot of privacy. The place was clean and quiet and the kitchen was great

The bathroom facilities could have be larger and offer more privacy. The facilites were shared (men and women) which is fine, however the showers stalls were very tiny, and the doors frosted glass. The one toilet was so close to the shower that both could not have the door open at the same time. It was not nice to be in having a shower while someone was sitting half a metre away doing their business in the toilet. It was impossible to get dressed in the shower stall without getting your clothes wet and if you stepped out you were in full view of everyone else.

Good location, exceptionally clean facilities, very comfortable bed.

As others have said, the shared rooms are almost comically small - six beds in a space with barely enough standing room for two people. The common areas and curtained beds partly make up for this, but the fact that there is so little space in the rooms makes for a less than totally comfortable experience. Definitely not for the claustrophobic. Shared bathrooms are similarly much too small for the number of guests, though the private bathroom off the kitchen is good to have and worth knowing about.

The location is great. Super close to the beach. The room is awesome. On top. Like an adventure room for kids. Really tiny. You need to be thin and bend over. Lots of tiny stairs. Some wooden structure in the midle of the floor that you have to make sure not to tripp and fall over when going to the bathroom at night and finally the bathroom with has the tinniest door i have ever seen. Am petite but had to bend over to get in. For a 10 year old the hight was perfect though.

There wasnt any tea and coffeemaker like it said online. That was a shame because i booked the room exactly because of it. We came in late and brought tea suplies with us and it wasnt that nice that we couldnt get boiling water in the room. The shared kitchen is open only during the afternoon hours, so that wasnt a propper replacement for the kettle that i expected to find in the room. We had a fridge instead with i didnt expect nor needed. I didnt see a child highchair in the room, but didnt need one. The door to the bathroom is so tiny that if you are over 12 years old, you will have to bend to be able to access it. There was no wi fi.

I liked it because it’s a short walking distance to the beach. Cozy home. Great host.

I stayed in July and room air circulation was not great and no AC, had to open window that made it better but other roommates would close it 😄. Upper beds are climbing challenge as they are high and you need to be wearing shoes as steps would hurt my bare feet. There’re no shower heads holders in second floor and you’ll need to be holding it + water gathers at the bottom at the first 5 seconds you turn water on.

Close to the Camino and great rates.

Didn’t get an email with our check in info until 3 pm and didn’t have WiFi so that was tricky. Confusion about our room type but owner worked it out for us. Make sure you specify which kind of room you want - which I thought I did when booking but double check to be sure. Private bathroom with the twin or double beds has an outside area which is spacious and toilet and shower are separated. Room was very clean. Also has a nice sized shared kitchen and living areas and outside areas.

Loved the sitting area, outside deck space and our bunks were comfortable. Curtains were great for privacy and each bunk had it's own shelf and charging station with a night light. Loved that I could lock up my belongings and not worry about anything

The rooms were a bit tight so if there were more than 2 people organizing their stuff, it was a shuffle. Wasn't comfortable with the one bathroom being coed as you couldn't lock the room while taking a shower and no room inside the shower to change. The downstairs bathroom was lovely.

Great place to stay on the Camino. We had a bed in the dormitory. The bed itself was very comfortable and the privacy curtain a great feature. The room with the bunk beds is quite small and you have to go downstairs for the common areas. The bathroom upstairs and shower cubicles are very small. However, there is a single full-size bathroom downstairs, which is excellent. Kitchen, dining, common areas and outdoor terrace are all lovely. I only saw one staff member for a couple of minutes. There is only someone there during the check-in hours. Self check-in was very easy though. One suggestion might be to leave the stamp for the pilgrim's credential on the desk so it can be used at any time. We didn't get a stamp as we forgot to ask when we saw the staff member. We stayed two nights so we could stay the night, catch a bus into Porto in the morning, go to the cathedral and do some sightseeing, then do the lovely walk back out to Matosinhos as the start of our Camino to stay the second night. That way it was a much shorter walk the second day.

Only the small shower cubicle with nowhere to change upstairs. But the bathroom downstairs is great.
