Staff were very polite and helpful, hotel lobby has free refreshment (including draft beer and wine) and snack station, a rare scene. I got a tatami bed arrangement, the room was big and i like that the wc and shower room are separated. Both dinner and breakfast were sumptuous and delicious, with chef moved from one table to another to prepare a dish for guests. Another interesting feature. The onsen area has both indoor and outdoor pools, good experience. Overall a rather good standard hotel that provides excellent services.
Hotel location is quite out of the way, and the GPS via phone number didn't provide accurate route to the hotel. Had to use google map from the main road.

Food was absolutely amazing, catered to my vegan diet, my waiter was extremely friendly and hospitible. Room had a breathtaking view of the mountain. Free picnic supplies in the common area, amazing bathing area. Helped me get a ride to the station in the morning, but I had to pay for it
There were some very loud guests staying the same night, there is a shared facility room with unlimited beer and wine they were taking advantage of. There is only one shuttle only taking you back to kisofukushima at 9AM had to pay to get a ride into town (about 20m) in the morning to leave before 9AM.

The place was all class. The architectural beauty was unmatched by any hotel I stayed at in Japan. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. They did not always get it right but by golly, they got everything right all in all. The food was exemplary and the onsen was good. I plan to go back.
There was nothing I did not like - except the coffee sadly. Australians seem to do coffee very well but the Asians are not quite as good at it. No complaints however since it was reasonable coffee and the whole time there was just perfect.

I was kindly greeted and picked up by the shuttle bus. The welcome was genuine and pleasant. We received tea and other beverages and treats in the lounge. As a welcome we were offered a special cake. The Onsen had inside pools and outside baths. What a wonderful time to relax and refresh after the hikes. The dinner experience was amazing, so many delicious dishes all explained by kind staff. The room was very comfortable, quiet and a wonderful view over the meadow and the mountains. The breakfast was equally plentiful and so delicious. I highly recommend this wonderful resort.

The meal was just incredible. Each meal is special, with many local and seasonal ingredients. This gives a proper traditional Japanese meal experience in my opinion, with plenty different textures and tastes. The scenery is breathtaking, with Mt. Ontake. There are free drinks available in the lounge, and the onsen is really big, with two outside baths. The staff is really nice and can speak decent english.
I would say the price is a bit high.

Lovely public areas and general setting. Food was exceptional and managed to be very appealing to western tastes while still being very Japanese. Free bikes were good, if in need of some rejuvenation.
The music box in the lounge got annoying after a couple of cycles but we managed to turn it off. We arrived around 1 pm but could not check in early despite the hotel being almost empty. These were minor and we enjoyed the stay very much.

My wife and I had a fantastic three nights at Kazari that we will always treasure. The staff are phenomenal- friendly, attentive and welcoming. The lodge, rooms, grounds, onsen, and snack/ bistro area are all beautiful and well maintained. The restaurant is just wow! - the food is beyond excellent and prepared perfectly. It was by far the best dinners and breakfasts of our entire trip.. This place is truly a must visit.
There is nothing to dislike.

Included dinner & breakfast were excellent. It's 20 minutes from Kiso-fukushima station, but they have shuttle service. 3:30pm or 5pm from train station to the ryokan. 9:30am from the ryokan to train station (there's only one shuttle service in the morning). You need to arrange shuttle service before you arrive. It's surrounded by beautiful mountains. I would stay again if I come back to Kiso-fukushima.
It would be better if dining room is more private.

Hands down, this was the most traditional ryokan experience one can have in Japan. It was perfect. Transport: There is a shuttle pickup from Kiso-Fukushima at 330 or 5pm, then drop off departing the hotel at 930am. Food: The dinner and breakfast were incredible, we were treated to a 9 course kaiseke while watching Mt. Ontake, and the most comprehensive shabu shabu for breakfast. The homemade blueberry jam was a bonus! Facilities: Free flow alcohol - wine, beer, juice, tea etc. Separate lounge for free flow sake and whisky. Perfect ambience. The onsen has four pools each, including 2 outdoors in nature - at night this is just serene. Rooms: Traditional Japanese style tatami, with plenty of bathroom amenities. There is a private spa on the balcony, where one can relax and do some bird watching. Overall, I can’t rate this ryokan enough. Thank you for the most pleasant stay, we will definitely come back during winter!
This is a very Japanese traditional ryokan, expect local experience. This is also what we love the most about it, in between the broken English we got to experience a real Japanese ryokan.

This is the cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed in the world. The food was great like Michelin class and the service was neat and attentive. The onsen quality was good and outdoor bath facing the mountain with snow on top of the hills was really something you can only have in your dream. I truly feel this is a 10 star hotel.
Bed and pillow a bit hard.
