Derwent House provided us a wonderful start to our South African adventure. They helped us arrange transport from the airport and greeted us so warmly upon arrival and every day of our stay. This charming boutique guesthouse is located in a quiet neighborhood with close proximity to all the excellent restaurants on Kloof Street. We were delighted and grateful to have the staff book dinner reservations nightly! We easily arranged Uber for many sightseeing trips beyond our walking abilities. Our room was small, but we had privacy and a nice little balcony overlooking the pool and a view of Table Mountain. Amenities were exceptional— breakfast, honor bar, homemade goodies… as was the entire team — unobtrusive, but so warm and helpful. We stayed 5 nights and could have stayed longer!

The swimming pool was too cold for our tastes!

Derwent House is very conveniently located for some amazing restaurants, cafes and bars around the corner but in a quiet safe street. The room was beautifully decorated with local arts and sculptures (cool vibe) and soaps, lotions, tea/coffee provided. The staff are wonderful!! Lucas and Mercy must get special mention for going above and beyond with some fab recommendations for places to visits and restaurants to visit. They were friendly, helpful (nothing was too much trouble), extremely welcoming and genuinely lovely people. Fresh complimentary cakes baked every day and served from 4pm. Honesty bar at the end of the day with a great selection of spirits, great selection of excellent local SA wines, beers and soft drinks. Breakfast was amazing, a different fresh menu every morning. Nothing was missing from this exceptional boutique hotel. It was a haven compared to the tourist frenzy of hotels located at the Waterfront. I rarely write reviews but I have to spread the word about this gem in Cape Town. Oh, and my room overlooked Table Mountain, now cool is that! We were very sorry to leave after our 5 day stay at the hotel.

Possibly a mini fridge in the room (we drink copious amounts of tea) for fresh milk but there was milk downstairs in the restaurant for guests so we were being extremely lazy! Nothing we didn't like - truly a great hotel.

Very special place. Beautiful, comfortable, filled with art, homey, relaxing. The staff were outstanding. Extremely attentive and looked after our every need, incl. transportation, excursions, etc. Super clean. Great location. Excellent breakfast, plus packed us 'to-go' as needed. Evenings, if you needed a snack there was always hot soup; and freshly baked cakes! Our favorite. Plus an honor bar with wine; library; cozy blankets for sitting outside. Guard outside, nice to feel extra protected. They thought of everything for the guest's comfort.

Not a thing.

This is a true gem. We stayed in the apartment which was fabulous. Very clean. Quiet. AC. Washer. WiFi. Full kitchen. Beyond well stocked! Excellent location and easy to walk to restaurants and cafes. We would definitely stay here again. The hotel arranged a driver/guide for us -Roger- who was terrific. And the hotel arranged seamless transportation from the airport and to our next destination. The afternoon cake and honor wine bar were bonuses.

We loved everything.

This place was amazing! The staff were so friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were amazing and the afternoon cake was to die for!! There was a great honesty bar with a good selection of wines. The location was ideal, close enough within easy drives of all major attractions in Cape Town and plenty of parking at the property. Beds were super comfortable and rooms were lovely and clean. Turn down service was also a lovely touch too. Thanks so much 🤩

Delicious and very plentiful breakfasts. Lots of hot and cold choices, including daily local specialties. So many that over our 3 day stay we couldn't sample them all! We loved the carefully curated decor, and the welcoming, friendly, helpful staff. Located in a quiet neighbourhood, just a few minutes walk to great restaurants and shops. Felt like a luxurious home away from home.

Nothing could have been better.

It can be intimidating traveling to a country you've never been to and the staff at Derwent House regularly reached out before my stay to see if they could make any reservations for me. I booked a ride to and from the airport and they let me know who would be picking me up, where they would meet me and how long it would take to get to the hotel. It was very reassuring and appreciated. I wanted to do some sightseeing and they suggested booking a driver and let me know there was another woman arriving who was also traveling on her own. We had a magical day exploring the coast with Luca - the wild penguins, baboons, and ostriches were mind-blowing - not to mention the pristine turquoise ocean and gorgeous views. I couldn't have asked for a better day - Luca was so personable and knowledgeable, and it made me happy that he seemed to be having a great time too. I can't recommend Derwent House highly enough.

I've never traveled to South Africa or switched my SIM card out (let alone touched it) - so, I assumed (wrongly) when they switched it out, that the hotel was holding my other one for me and I'd switch it back when I checked out. It turns out it got lost somehow. They thought I had it, I thought they had it. I would just say, if you're not familiar with switching your card, make sure you have your other SIM card so you can easily swap them later. Other than that - it was a great week with the cheery staff who were so kind and accommodating. It was very much appreciated.

Amazing staff, so friendly and helpful, couldn’t do enough for us. Beautiful hotel, full of character, stylish and very comfortable. Fabulous breakfasts, delicious afternoon cake, excellent restaurant recommendations… so many things, it’s a great place to stay and we would definitely return.

Hard to answer this one as was a brilliant stay and the hotel has great attention to detail! Perhaps a mozzie screen on the bathroom window and patio doors? We were bitten several times at night and also killed a few mozzies in our room.

The Derwent House is in a super location on a quiet street. Very safe and secure. Beautiful building and appointments inside, lots of color and a lovely art collection. The rooms truly have everything you could ask for, including a stuffed animal for those in need (kidding), very comfortable beds, a/c ect. Pool area is great and has towels. Breakfast had plentiful options and you can order a la carte as well. Absolutely fantastic. The staff is phenomenal too!

Lovely boutique hotel. Decor was beautiful and all staff were fantastic. A really friendly place to stay. Unfortunately we were delayed by 22 hours but the hotel were kind enough to upgrade us to a suite room which had amazing views of Table Mountain. It was such a bonus following a disastrous start to our holiday.
