Every member of staff was friendly, courteous, and made us feel very welcome. Home from home. The facilities and overall decoration of the guest house was excellent. Matt was a lovely host, spending time with us and providing lots of information of things to do in the area. He even gave us a free upgrade to a wonderful suite, which was very kind of him. The location is within a 5 minute drive or 15/20 minute walk of the waterfront. Visit Freshline Fisheries for a delicious lunch or dinner - you won't regret it. Robberg Nature Reserve in Plettenberg is well worth a visit - 3 different length walks. Knysna Ziplines for a little adventure and fantastic views.

We had a lovely room with a balcony which overlooked the lagoon and Knysna Head, the view was stunning. The hosts were very attentive and informative and even invited us to a small concert with food and drinks included. The breakfast was amazing with lots of choice and the chef managed to cook my scrambled egg to perfection, which is quite an achievement, we have stayed at many establishments over the course of our holiday, mostly five star, but only Candlewood and on other got the eggs right.

1) The stairs leading up to our room were a bit steep. 2) The hairdryer was in a drawer but attached to a plug behind the drawer so cannot be removed making it very restrictive, the only mirror was on the side of the wardrobe so impossible to dry your hair and look in the mirror, obviously not been designed by a woman!

This is a real gem of a place made all the more charming by the lovely staff ably led by Matthias who is a natural at making people feel welcome and at home. Having tasted the amazing breakfast we decided to have dinner here one night too - the chef is really talented and it felt much more initmate than eating at a restuarant so we're glad we opted not to go into town. The decor is amazing and a lot of thought has gone into make the place stylish and comfortable, I just wish we could have stayed longer. We were given a room with a view over the lagoon and what a view it is. Absoultely stunning and wonderful to sit on the balcony with a coffee overlooking the Kynsna heads.

We received excellent service from Faith and Anna during our two-night stay. The complimentary upgrade to a room with a view was a nice surprise when we checked in and everyone was really helpful with suggestions on restaurant options and things to do in the area. The breakfasts were amazing and the laundry service very efficient.

It was lucky we could remember our Netflix password from New Zealand to be able to utilise the TV otherwise we would not have been able to watch anything.

A superb place to stay. Everything about Candlewood Lodge was just perfect. Great attention to detail- beautiful garden, sunny courtyard for breakfast, stylish and comfortable bedrooms. The host, Matthieu, and all the staff made us most welcome. Matthieu gave us lots of tips on where to go and what to do, including excellent restaurant recommendations. The breakfasts were 5*, by far the best we have encountered during our 3 week stay in South Africa, absolutely delicious. We wish we had planned to stay for longer!

There is nothing to dislike.

We Loved staying here. It felt like home. Cosy and intimate. The people were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Most amazing breakfast. So much attention to detail. We had a meal one night there which was lovely. It was one of our Favorite places we stayed at on our travels around the Western Cape.

We loved everything, especially the jolly people. Only one thing would be to have a slightly bigger bed. That could be down to the room we chose. Everywhere else we stayed seemed to have a 6 foot bed. But it was comfortable.

All the staff made this a very special stay! From our welcome on arrival, to the service and attention to detail at breakfast, everyone here made sure we were welcome and got the most out of out stay. The breakfast really is very special... so much choice and the cooked food is of a very high standard. Our room was spacious and clean, with a well-equipped kitchenette.

Slightly disappointed to have paid extra for a deluxe room that didn't have a view and didn't always feel very private because it was right next to the parking area. It looks like Booking.com has now been updated so that you can more precisely specify whether you'd like to be upstairs/downstairs etc, but this wasn't possible at the time of booking.

The better the place, the more difficult to put it in words. This stay is, easily, in our top 5 best stays ever. The concept of “attention to every single detail” takes a totally different meaning at Candlewood. So much, that this type of service we can only compared to the one you see in places like Japan. Mathias and Urs, together with all the beutiful ladies working at the guesthouse, make this place an incredible extraordinary experience. From the impeccable and absolutely DIVINE food, to the comfortably chic and clean rooms. We feel we need to dive into more details so you can really appreciate why we fell in love with this little piece of paradise. We arrived and were greeted by Mathias, the kindest soul in the entire Knysna. We were given a free upgrade and, oh! Wow! what a view from our room and our porch. Thank you Mathias! The bedroom and bathroom were impeccable, so so so clean, beautifully decorated, so spacious and comfortable. The bed, pillows and linen were a total luxury experience (so well ironed, perfect mattress, softest pillows!). A generous fruit plate, with chocolates, Amarula and a delicious freshly made ginger lemonade was brought to us while Mathias gave us great ideas in what to see and do around Knysna. He even made restaurant reservations on the spot and thanks to him, we ate at the most memorable and incredible restaurants in our entire month in South Africa…. amazing!!! We wouldn’t have known about those places if it wasn’t for Mathias guidance and knowledge of the area. Then, when you think this is already reached the top of the top, here comes THE breakfast experience.

Matt was a super host and clearly passionate about hospitality and ensuring his guests have a good experience. He welcomed us with a full tour of his garden which was impressive both knowledge and species. He went out of his way to make us so welcome Thank you Matt

Being really picky the shower cubicle needs calcium remover as it has calcified. A very small thing in the scheme of things but constructive in the feedback.

The room and the view from the room was amazing. Looking at the lagoon and at the inlet of the Indian ocean into the lagoon. Matthias gave excellent recommendations and gave us an excellent tour of his on-site little but extremely varied botanical garden. The staff is so friendly and provide excellent service. The breakfast was the best we have had in SA so far. Thank you so much for making us feel at home.
