We stayed in the Rock House and the views were breathtaking. The staff were attentive and courteous. Breakfast and dinner are served everyday at the Homestead (main house) on the patio (weather permitting). Food was excellent. On arrival, there were two zebras grazing opposite reception. We took a walk down to the South Dam (10 minute walk) one afternoon and saw 3 giraffes and an ostrich and plenty of impala. It is really hard to describe this magical place as it was truly, a memorable experience.

The drive up to the retreat is on a long umade road, so be prepared for a ‘bumpy’ ride. Although we had a plunge pool, we were not able to use it, as neither that or the main swimming pool are heated. But to be honest, this place is not for ‘sunbathing’ it is an adventure!

Great location, Amazing views. Awesome staff. Accommodation was excellent - all the amenities needed - they thought of everything. (such as plug for hairdryer near mirror, which many places don't think of!) Thank you to Jay Dean, Abigail and Staff - no request was too much. From wanting to watch the rugby to extra braai wood! Thank you also for all the advice re roads/routes - the Panoramic route we took, a day in the Kruger National etc - even though we are South African, it helps to know that Waze is not always right :) I know everyone complains about the dirt road, but fortunately we had an SUV and sometimes you need to take a bit of an adventurous route to get to such beauty! The Rockhouse (and everything else) highly recommended, for romantic get-aways, family time, or even just a quick mother-daughter much needed get-away!

Loved everything - only comment if really need to say something - Light at the braai area at Rockhouse.

Our stay at Tomjachu was exceptional. We've never experienced such a good combination of service, location and food in our lives (even compared to 4* Hotels in Germany, France, Netherlands and Austria). The dishes were generous and delicious (breakfast, dinner and the lunch-packages), the staff was welcoming, attentive and helpful be it in spontaneous planning of activities or the arrangement of something (like Bush Dinner, Nature Drive or Breakfast). Furthermore the view and the whole surroundings were stunning. They have different animals there (Wildebeest, Giraffe, lot of birds, reptiles and so on.). Some people complained about the gravel road. If you have no lowered sport car you could do the road easily (we had a Toyota Corolla Quest).

There's not much we could mention here: The windows were not equipped with fly screens. Maybe we were in luck or the insects aren't gonna like inside the accommodations, but only one buck found its way into our rooms (other lodges we've visited didn't use fly screens too). Another thing are the ticks in the grass if you do hikes. There are a lot of them. However they aren't near the main lodges and if you visit at the right time you won't even recognize them.

Everything! You are completely engulfed by nature! One of the nicest places we have stayed. The customer service, and the manager in particular, is outstanding and very personable. Everyone on site tries their absolute best to make the stay not just great, but excellent. The room was very clean and the whole area so relaxing to stay at. A lovely atmosphere. The food was equally as nice. My partner is very hard to please and even he loved the food! We also felt incredibly safe the whole time we were there. Thank you so much for having us - we will definitely be back.

I liked everything.

Beautiful location overlooking the mountains. Great to have your own private pool. Even more magical was when a zebra came to drink from the pool! Room was spacious and clean. Staff were super friendly and were always willing to help with anything we needed.

The kitchen in our apartment needs updating - it's dark and looking a bit tired. Even though the roads are graded several times a year I would recommend a 4x4. The bush experience - dinner under the stars was disappointing - there was no 'game drive', the food was over cooked. The staff never explained what the food was, which was disappointing especially as we had guests who it was their first time in South Africa. It all seemed very rushed - in just over 1 hour we were finished and the staff wanted to go home. Not worth the money. It could be magical - just needs some work.

The Bush Cottage was very beautiful, with a great pool and lovely rooms. The main lodge had a beautiful common area that included the dining room and pool terrace with a fantastic view. The Staff was very attentive and helped make our stay more comfortable and enjoyable. If you decide on Tomjachu, please take the opportunity to go on the hiking trails. The groundskeeping staff does an excellent job at manicuring the gardens near the various properties as well as the trails. Other than the lush plant life, the wildlife was a major highlight. Hearing the abundant birdlife was a privilege, not to mention seeing the various game close up on foot.

After 4 months of travel, we arrived here very tired. The best thing I did during my 4 months of travel was to book here. There has never been a place like this and it will never be. Even the staff and guests I met here were kind and very nice people. I was really sad to leave here. This place became my future dream that I really want to come again. Thank you all. Thank you so much!!! next time we meet, I will learn a lot of English! I couldn't express my whole heart because I was not good at English. (Dinner here was great happiness and healing. Best food)

Let's do more 'TV shows'.

Absolutely everything was perfect. I simply could not have asked for anything more. We felt extremely safe, we were well fed and had so much fun doing all the different activities. Tomjachu Bush Retreat is absolutely perfect for people wanting to explore African nature at their own pace and be safe whilst doing so (thanks to the electrically fenced massive estate keeping dangerous animals and humans away). We are vegetarian and Tomjachu Bush Retreat accomodated us with super delicious vegetarian meals throughout our stay. I dont have anything to complain.

Amazing location, superb views, and wonderful wildlife on their many scenic trails. Cottage was spacious, well-furnished and supplied with everything you need for a bush breakaway. The lodge restuarant had tasty meal options and accommodated our food requests.

Fireplace chimneys need to be cleaned for bats. But staff (Abigail) was really great in helping us out, and lighting a strong fire did solve that issue, thankfully! :)

The room was exactly as it was shown on the images on the booking.com site. The privacy afforded in the room was top tier and the house had all the amenities we needed for a self-catering unit. We found it difficult to actually leave the vicinity of our room and spent the weekend enjoying the boba, the pool and the comfort of the room with spectacular views.

If you are not a through and through nature lover, you may have a hard time dealing with the abundant wildlife in the vicinity from the frogs that do show up at night, to the lizards that will be roaming outside the house when the hot sun is out.
