Melia Barajas

the private shuttle bus provided by Melia Barajas that came late at night so I was able to be driven immediately to the airport at 10:00 pm and the meticulously designed room that I stayed in was a delight. I loved the room because it appealed to all my tastes: clean, well-designed and organized for any traveller. I was very impressed by the design and structure of the room and the aesthetics of the space, and the communication pieces. I loved their theme--Soul Matters, and reflected in visual journal pad for your thoughts, it was a step up from what I've seen. Provided a well-stocked mini-bar with the prices listed for all the items at your fingertips-another step up, and while I didn't use it because I went down stairs and they served food until midnight. I was pleased that I could get food and drinks but the vegetarian dish I ordered was left-overs and did not taste good, and it is the reason that I did not give them an exceptional rating. The staff's customer service was great, friendly attitude and informative. They had a well-planned system for scheduling their shuttle to your flight in enough time to make one's flight. This feature I really liked. Many hotels that provide shuttle service give you their time schedule but don't personally talk you through it--another step up. They clearly have done their marketing research and made "stepping up changes." I would always stay at this hotel if I was enroute to another city and plan to recommend it to all my European travelling friends, especially those who might be going to Madrid. I rarely write recommendations but plan to write one to this hotel itself, had no time to do so before I left. I left Melia Barajas, rested, relaxed and very pleased. Only one thing could have been better, they had a very visually pleasing menu but because it was late at night I didn't want to eat anything heavy so I ordered a vegetarian dish.. mostly it was left-over food from early in the day. They should not serve vegetables that are not fresh, the ones I was served was soggy and over-salted. I was so hungry, I didn't complain but planned to let them know it was the only reason I would give them (Melia Barajas hotel) a good rating rather than an exceptional rating because every thing else about their service was exceptional. It is so easy these days to serve fresh vegetables at any time, just freeze the vegetables and heat them up when ordered, or serve raw. I have no other comments re improvements needed. C.J. Hill

Staff was friendly, breakfast was great. A little pricey maybe at £17.00 or €20 euros. But there was plenty to choose from, def not lacking in breakfast food. The room was very spacious and the bed comfortable, it had all you needed for a good stay with coffee pod machine, with coffee pods. The room was very clean, I am picky with cleanliness so it exceeded my expectations. I only stayed one night so couldn't enjoy the gym or swimming pool as it didn't open till 11am, and I had a plane to catch so left at that time. I am also practicing my Spanish and one of the staff members who assisted me with check in kindly listened to my request to speak to me in Spanish only. He was patient with my attempt at responding in Spanish and I didn't feel rushed or nervous as he paid attention and helped me along the way. So, great customer service in my opinion. I would use this hotel again.

It would have been good if the swimming pool opened earlier then 11am for those wishing to get a morning swim. However, I do understand also that this might not be possible if you need staff present as you might not have the staff due to breakfast duties and so forth.

Standard airport hotel. Good value for the money. Well located near the airport and a short walk to the metro making it easy to get into the center. Multiple restaurants and small stores nearby. The staff was very helpful. The airport shuttle is convenient, although we had to taxi for our 0600 flight because the shuttle is not available until 0430. Melia has another hotel nearby, Barajas is the better of the two.

We ordered a pizza from room service, it was terrible. The onsite restaurant is expensive. Luckily, there are other lower cost options a short walk from the hotel. Otherwise, all good.

Rooms were impeccable and toiletries were exceptional. Breakfast was assorted and delicious with many options for Celiac people (gluten free). The gym was clean and well-equipped. Lastly, the restaurant on-site provided us an excellent service and supreme food.

The only thing I personally found a bit unpleasant was the temperature of the pool. Even though, our stay was in July, the water from the pool was very cold. I would have enjoyed more my stay, if the pool had a more pleasant temperature. However, this didn't affect my stay at this hotel.

Comfortable room, friendly staff

Shuttle didn't work well from the airport, I had to wait around 1,5 hours there as the shuttle did not run very often during the evening. This should be improved as the shuttle got very full and there was no possibility for safe distance with other passengers. All the other safety measures at the hotel were fine but the shuttle was a disappointment.

The check in was efficient with professional staff. Comfortable rooms. I did not try the inhouse restaurant but had dinner outside. The bar is OK and the breakfast OK as well.

The transfer from the airport to the hotel was not to my liking. The rather small mini buss, stuffed with people and luggage surely exceed all traffic safety rules. I appreciate that it is very difficult and expensive for the hotel to adjust size of buss vs expected travelers. But, second time, a week later, I took a taxi from the airport to the hotel.

Reception staff was outstanding - very professional, helpful, and genuinely friendly. Assisted us with directions to return rental car and excellent recommendations for dining outside the hotel.

Although the hotel restaurant is beautiful and the food was excellent, we had a very unpleasant experience trying to dine there in the evening. The waiter assigned to us had an unpleasant disposition and ignored us after taking our initial food order - we had to get up and seek assistance from other waiters - skipped dessert and a second round of drinks because of the exceptionally poor service.

Hotel is close to airport for quick access for late night arrival or early morning departure. Room was large enough for 3 people. Breakfast was very nice with good selection of food. Unfortunately, I was only there one night, so I did not get to use facilities such as the pool, gym, or restaurant.

The shuttle system for the hotel was a challenge. At the airport, we waited a very long time (45 minutes) for the hotel shuttle to arrive while other shuttles seemed to make multiple visits. Taking a taxi would've been a more efficient option. Also the shuttle going back to the airport the next morning was a challenge. I had to reserve spots at a specific time, and even then the shuttle arrived pretty full from another sister hotel property. I guess the shuttle is shared with more than one property. My recommendation is to use other transportation and not to rely on the hotel shuttle service.

Breakfast was buffet style self service- exceptional choice and range of food available to suit all tastes. Wi Fi was free and strong signal in all areas of the hotel. Free and efficient shuttle service between hotel and airport. Hotel was modern, well maintained and clean. All staff, from check in, bar staff and cleaners all friendly and efficient, all appeared to enjoy their work and gave a strong impression that they worked as team to provide guests with the best experience possible. Rooms spacious and clean and tastefully decorated. Good pre arrival contact from hotel re: timetable for airport shuttle. Would have no hesitation in returning or recommending this hotel to others

Leaving the hotel to come home. Although we were aware that the hotel pool would not be open during our stay, (beginning of October) the weather was hot and we would have used the pool if we had been able to.

The breakfast buffet was class and the outside eating area beside the pool was really nice place to sit and eat. The room was very spacious and it was great to have a sperate shower and bath. The staff were very friend and easy to chat with.

Would be nice if there was an option to have bags taken to the room. More selection of beers on tap would be nice but the one on tap was delicious. Had to order a taxi as the bus to take our things to the airport wasn't large enough.
