Hanthana House

The design of the modern guesthouse, rooms and bathrooms was excellent. There was a seating lounge area on each floor between bedrooms which was an added bonus. The breakfasts were well cooked, varied and plentiful. Dinners were traditional Sri Lankan, very tasty and could be amended to suit tastes. We particularly liked being above Kandy for the fresh mountain air and the great hikes in the surrounding hills. We explored the local area, including the tea museum, communication tower hill and other walks in the area. Pathi and his team were fantastic ... very friendly, courteous and helpful ... nothing was too much bother. Filtered water was available at all times. Beds were comfortable, air conditioning worked well.

A lovely hotel. Very comfortable, clean room with luxurious feel. Peaceful location high on a hill overlooking Kandy and forest. Very helpful and friendly staff who got us two tuktuks when needed among other things. Really delicious breakfast and dinner, among the best food we had in two weeks in Sri Lanka.

The hotel is high above Kandy on very windy roads. This is fine and a benefit in a sense, but the hotel should provide accurate driving directions as Google Maps takes a very torturous route. The WiFi in the lower floors of the new building didn't work very well at all, unfortunately.

My wife and I stayed at Hanthana House and it was just perfect! The property is in the hills of Kandy and overlooks very beautiful jungles. We arrived a bit early and the staff welcomed us in and showed us right to our room. The room was spotless, comfortable, and clean. The air con and fan was nice during the warm Kandy days. The WiFi was extremely fast all day long. We ate dinner at the hotel every night and it was 100% worth it! The variety and amount of food they give you is perfect! We also ate breakfast every morning and lunch a few times! We’d highly recommend taking advantage of their food choices! The staff here is top notch! Everyone goes above and beyond to make sure that you’re taken care of and comfortable. Everyone is friendly and welcoming and we’ll miss seeing them every day. Overall, we would 100% recommend Hanthana House for your trip to Kandy! There’s a reason these guys are rated so high on Booking and they have definitely earned that rank!

The owners! As a solo traveller, Pathi, Suba and their team made me feel so welcome, part of the family. They went above and beyond to make my stay perfect - organising sight seeing trips and a driver (Raju is the best!) at a very reasonable price, sharing their expert knowledge with me. I loved their kindness. Suba’s cooking is divine. The property itself is modern, stylish, beautiful architecture, open plan living areas, high ceilings and wooden beams, loads of light. Dinner served on the terrace close in the sights and sounds of lush greenery and a packed lunch / breakfast for days out. My room was spacious, very comfortable, clean, with access to a balcony with panoramic views.

Nothing! It was wonderful. It’s a little way out of town but easy to take a Tuk Tuk which just added to the adventure!

The stay was incredible! The family that run this guesthouse truly made this stay beyond incredible. The owner helped us organise a car to pick us up from the train station, and invited us to go for his afternoon walk around the area shortly after we arrived which was so lovely. We were warmly greeted and all staff took such great care of us, they were all incredible. We loved having breakfast and dinner there, and the food was amazing! We also did a cooking class with the owner and staff, which was so so lovely. We were made to feel like part of the family! The room was gorgeous and clean, modern, really comfortable. Could not have asked for a better stay. We will be back!

What a great stay in the jungle at Hanthana! The place has quite minimalist yet comfortable decor with plenty of plants, lounging areas and incredible jungle views. Lovely hot shower and fluffy white towels to make it a hotel-like stay so I extended my stay in comfort to get some well deserved rest and for my laundry to be done. The location is around 15-20 mins from town by a super cheap tuk tuk so just make sure you plan for that time wise- I would still pick to stay in the jungle if I came the second time. Sometimes the PickMe app drivers cancel so if you need to be anywhere on time please book with the lovely owner for a tuk tuk instead. The breakfast included is gorgeous and plentiful. You can order dinner as well, just let them know if you’ll be back for then or not. All cooked fresh and is a very homey atmosphere.

Super minor and wasn’t an issue for me but the towel rack wasn’t screwed on properly so it could do with some TLC between guests.

very stylish and charming place - nice rooms, comfortable bed, great widow view; it’s a little hard to get to the place but the view and quiet surroundings are worth it. we had very nice dinner and breakfast at the place. the owner is very welcoming and warm person also very helpful with organising driver and trip to Nuwara Elja

the stay at the Hanthana Place was great but we had unpleasant experience with the driver organised by Pathi (the owner) - our plan was to catch the train from Kandy to Nuwara Elja; Pathi talked us into the trip with the driver promising to stop at some places in Kandy and on the way to Nuwara Elja. The driver was very angry that we wanted to see botanical garden and the tooth temple although it was discussed with Pathi. I would recommend to make sure that the driver has the same information that is stated with Pathi because communication with the driver isn’t easy.

We had a very lovely stay! We loved the well designed modern room, it was very clean and comfortable. We also loved the gorgeous view from the balcony - pure unspoiled nature! The area is very quiet, totally in the hills and yet a quick tuktuk away from kandy. We enjoyed a walk around the lovely neighborhood. The food was great, local sri Lankan cuisine. We got filtered water at the house so we didn't buy bottled water, which is much more sustainable. We highly Hanathana house for your home base in the kandy region!

We loved our stay here, initially booked for two nights and extended to three. The staff were beyond amazing, incredibly welcoming and helpful when it came to planning our days and activities, all our day trips were planned by them, along with a hike round the mountain free of charge! The food was lovely and fresh and was easily adapted to what we like. We felt so comfortable and would 100% recommend!

The only issue we would have is that it’s a 10 min drive from the city, but that didn’t matter as the host booked tuktuks and taxis for us whenever we needed, and it also meant we had the most amazing view and nature around us.

The house is located in the Hanthana Mountains of Kandy, about a 15min drive from downtown. Thankfully they offered pick-up from the bus and also during our stay. The communication with Pathi, the owner, is amazing and he and his staff are incredibly helpful and friendly - they really want you to have the best experience possible. They helped us tremendously with the train tickets! Our room was beautiful and felt newly renovated. It came with the best view and was very comfortable. Both breakfast and dinner were among the best we‘ve had in Sri Lanka. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely come back here.

The house is a bit far off the main town (which gives you peace and serenity but it‘s not possible to walk into town) - we didn‘t mind this though and the car service was great. It‘s just something you should know before booking.
