Location is excellent, directly at the sea with nice and hidden spots for sunbathing and swimming. The hotel is very cosy and interesting due to the different art objects distributed over the different buildings. From the hotel it takes you 35min to the city center from Stockholm by bus which leaves every 20min til late night. There are many other nice bathing places close to the hotel in a typical Swedish landscape. Breakfast was very good and rich. Dinner in the hotel was outstanding and served by very nice staff.

The location was great, so easy to get to from the centre of Stockholm.The breakfast was lovely and the setting stunning. Fanny at reception was exceptional and in telling us the story and background of the hotel made our stay even better.The restaurant manager was excellent too, he was both professional and personable. We had a nice room with a sea view, really comfortable and lovely organic toiletries.

The smell of drains/effluent near reception can be overwhelming at times and sorting this really should be a priority.Paying guests shouldn't have to put up with the smell. The breakfast was great but the coffee from an urn was really disappointing. Needs to be coffee machine standard for hotel guests. There was a misunderstanding at check out which was upsetting.

Loved the staff, so helpful, accommodating, and polite. Not only at main desk, but also the waiters. The food was good too. Wonderful views and surroundings. The bed was very comfortable.

The pillows smelled dusty. It didn't feel like getting into a fresh clean bed. I have never had to pay for a baby crib before. It has always been available for free in my trips. Not very child-friendly in general - for instance, no play areas for small kids.

As far I know, the four star hotel room should be provided with minibar fridge, cabinet for clothes, water boiler... etc. Those essential items are missing. In addition to hard matres instead of the provided one. Thanks

The House bakery is excellent. The location is marvellous. Sauna, ferry in 5 minutes to Stockholm. Design of the room and facilities, a fantastic restaurant for dinner.

I was slightly disappointed that there was no porridge on the breakfast menu. Matrasses are too soft and - extremely disappointing - the double bed is actually two adjusted beds with an uncomfortable split in between. We were woken up by a cleaning lady who broke into our room at 9 am and didn't speak English. How come that cleaning lady came before breakfast?? We were leaving that day after breakfast and expected not to be disturbed util checkout time.

Nice and calm place away from the city. Quite a pleasant place to spend a relaxing weekend, swim, go to the sauna, do the sup, ride a bike. You will also find a varied breakfast and friendly staff.

If you have the feeling that you will be living in a castle, you are not correct :) You will live in a small building five minutes from the castle.

Coastal setting is magnificent. The staff were friendly and restaurant and bar staff knowledgeable. The bar in the original house has a nice ambiance.

it’s has been developed so extensively with modern buildings that don’t seem to be in keeping with the old Villa and surrounding countryside. Therefore, it feels more of a conference venue than cozy couples or family destination.

The beds were great. The personal very nice. The view magnificent.

Would have loved to have dinner or lunch in the old house. The big room for breakfast is good for breakfast but not really for dinner. The other restaurant was good for lunch but not really top notch for the dinner. Nothing to visit in April in Saltsjöbaden. No tips at the info desk.

This is our 5th visit to Sweden. This time, I chose a hotel outside the city, a quiet but charming place, and that's exactly Var Gard. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast abundant, beautiful location and above all, the comfiest bed ever!

We staid in the beautifull suites (Happy & Lucky) in front of the sea. From the bed we enjoyed the magnificent view on the sea. The breakfast is excellent and the hotel offers many activities (kayak...). It is very well located, close to the sea but also close to Stockholm and even Tyresa national park. We will come back !

price is not cheap, especially during our stay (mid august)
