We stayed 3 days at Hotel Sonnwendhof and I can definitely recommend it as for a short stay and for a long vacation. The hotel is very well maintained! The people, who work there really care about their customers making them comfortable as home. The room we had was spacious, with a balcony and comfy bed. The hotel has an inside children entertaining room. Breakfast is excellent and oriented for kids as well. It offers many local goods. The restaurant offers a 3 course dinner at St. Josefshaus hotel, which was pretty decent and not expensive. There are a lot of hiking trails around Engelberg including Titlis - 3000 meters above sea level. You can find easy routes with kids and a lot of options for experienced hikers. Coop supermarket is a in a walking distance as well as Engelberg's public pool. And the hotel has its own sauna! We would definitely get back to the hotel another time!

This was a great surprise! We didn't know what to expect, but found this little town to be warm and beautiful and very cool. The property is dated, but the staff was so so kind and welcoming that you feel right at home. The room had a great balcony overlooking the village and the mountains beyond. The staff turned on the sauna for us and we were able to relax in the spa for a while before retreating to our balcony to watch the mist creeping through the mountain peaks. The beds were comfortable and the duvet and sheets and pillows were excellent. The bathroom had a properly deep bathtub, with tons of hot water. The room wasn't large, but had everything we needed. The breakfast was plentiful and had special touches like fresh-squeezed OJ and fresh breads and jams...all served buffet style in a room with more incredible alpine views. We were just passing though, but I imagine if you're there for alpine sports you get even more value for your money as there were lots of services for skiers, etc. The parking was easy, though they do charge extra for it. Overall a great stay and we would definitely return!

Everything in Switzerland feels a little too expensive...and this room was no exception. It was great, but once you add breakfast and parking the already-slightly-more-expensive room becomes a little too much compared to other properties in France and Italy that were in a higher service category. But this might just be more a comment on how expensive Switzerland is, rather than the hotel!

Our room was clean and comfortable. There was a great ski room, complete with boot warmers in the basement, as well as a beautiful sauna room. The highlight of our stay was the warm, welcoming staff and the fantastic breakfast overseen by a super sweet hostess who memorized our morning cappucino/espresso preferences, prepared them in the kitchen and brought them out to us!

The tub/shower was very narrow with a shower curtain. It was quite difficult to avoid having the curtain touch my shoulders, which was a little uncomfortable. However, it was a very minor inconvenience and I was told that they will soon be completely refurbishing all of their bathrooms, so this should not be an issue in the future.

Breakfast was great. Location is very strategic as it’s only 3 minutes walk from the train station and the Mt Titlis ticket office is only 7 minutes walk from the hotel. Our room was clean. Beds were clean. Our room has a balcony too facing to the other Alps. And the hotel staff also gave us our takeaway breakfast on the day we checked out.. but including those two coloured boiled eggs in the photo .. thanks to Luzia, Rebecca and the other lady in the kitchen 😇

The location is just fantastic. We had a fantastic view of Mt. Titlis from the room. The check in and check out process was very easy and quick. the rooms r clean and comfortable! The ladies running the show are all very nice and helpful.

There is no restaurant for dinner within the property. There r plenty of food options around though but you still have to go out or get food after a long day - which is specially hard if you have kids with you.

On a recent trip to Switzerland, my wife as a special birthday surprise booked a trip to the magical town of Engelberg to visit Mt. Titlis and she chose the Hotel Sonnwendhof as a place to spend our time in this beautiful location Upon check-in we were met by Silvi, who was gracious, professional, and instantly greeted us as if we were old friends. She assured us our stay there would be special given, it was my birthday, and she provided us with a special room with a spectacular view, out of both sides of the room. It was in fact a magnificent view from the room, actually one of the best views we have ever enjoyed. Besides a view of the ski jump being prepared for upcoming World Cup 2022, a full moon rise over the mountains took our breath away. The hotel is quite comfortable and quaint and is a very short walk to everything. Breakfast was superb with a choice of a wide of variety of freshly prepared foods, homemade juice and honey, as well as homemade bread. It was really lovely. While we only stayed two nights, it left us with a memory of a lifetime. We can’t say enough about the hospitality we received, the warmth and friendship that we will remember long after the trip is finished. Thank you to Silvi, your team and your family for making such a special visit to a beautiful town called Engelberg. We would highly recommend this hotel and town as a destination for anyone who wants to see the best of the Swiss Alps.

I just love this hotel. Me and my husband spent our honey moon in this hotel 10 years ago and now 10 years later we came again this time with the kids. Even after 10 years they've managed to find which was the room we stayed before - it was the biggest and most beautiful room with the amazing view of the Titlis Glacier. Location- location is perfect, it's just next to train station, so really comfortable if you are coming with the public transportation. This hotel is the closest to the Titlis lift station. Very close to the city center - just 5-10min walking distance. Very nice restaurants and bars nearby. 7min from the hotel there is a lovely playground for the kids. The room was super specious and cozy, very well equipped, with nice balcony and an amazing view of Mount Titlis and the village. The bath was also very well equipped, I didn't miss anything. The stuff - I cannot tell enough how nice was the stuff at this hotel, we arrived very late - around midnight. Usually reception desk is opened until 18h, so they left the front door open for us and left the keys with all instructions at the reception. In the room there was such a nice message for us on the mirror and also a leaflet with a nice greeting from the whole stuff. Everybody in this hotel is super nice - from the reception desk ladies, through the breakfast stuff, to the cleaning lady. It was such a pleasure to be surrounded by so many smiling and kind people. The breakfast - I really liked the breakfast, I didn't see other hotels where every single ingredient (no matter if bread, jam, ham or cheese) was presented with the label of the local farmer, food was really really good, healthy and delicious. Stuff at the restaurant was super nice as well, on day 2 they already knew what my kids, me and my husband prefer to drink in the morning, such a small gestures that feels you special. Thank you all!

The only think I didn't like was the pillows - they were too soft, but other than that everything was perfect!

We had a very pleasant stay. Hotel staffs are superb and they make you feel special. My son and daughter loved the kids playroom on the ground floor. Location is great. Breakfast has lot of options and they also have luggage storage facility. We took a family photo also while leaving for our memories. We loved the staff and their service. The hotel Sonnwendhof behaves like a "boutique" hotel. The hotel team has thought of every detail and if they forget and you remind, their response time is blitz! One feels heard, seen and very welcome... We loved the personal handwritten welcome messages in the rooms, welcome messages at the breakfast tables written in different Swiss dialects, a very clean, organised kids' playroom, a rich breakfast that consisted of local products (from the farms and families of the staff) and so on... The place has a good location, and everything is clean. But the star is the manager Silvia and her team. Every single stuff member we met is genuinely smiling, helpful and attentive at their post. One wants to stay, talk to them, get to know them and become friends. Heartfelt thanks we extend them for how they do their jobs. It is the second time in ten years that we are amazed by a place. We will find excuses to go to Engelberg to stay at Sonnwendhof... "Boutique" hotel Sonnwendhof exceeded our expectations and sided next to perfect with their personally tailored service...

Extremely helpful, friendly staff. Silvia at breakfast is the friendliest most helpful person in the world, will immediately bring anything that's missing from breakfast buffet. Very nice room, with balcony and openable door and windows. Toblerones in the room and in the spa - even replenished when we came back from breakfast.

Pillows a little to floofi. Otherwise, nothing - excellent hotel.
