The room was very good - although the window could have been cleaner - cobwebs, dead fly and a bit grimy. Dinner in the 1877 Restaurant was delicious, relaxing and good value - well done. The breakfast was also of the highest quality in choice and amount - another well done.

The rear staircase - closest access to our room 330 - was very poor. Cobwebs in every corner and a multitude of dead insects on the window sill. Strange as it was nothing that two people could have rectified in minutes. Also, the bar staff was below standard for a hotel of this quality, one disinterested and frankly miserable, the other shy and quiet. No service was offered to the patio - again something I would have expected and enjoyed at similar hotels. Strangely I had to ask for a bar menu, surely these should be readily available?

The grounds

Having booked the hotel to use the spa facilities to find out on arrival that the pool was closed was disappointing as this was not stated at time of booking

We spent an amazing long weekend at Wotton House. The hotel and its garden are magnificent, nicely decorated inside and clean. The breakfast is great, there is a restaurant inside and staff is lovely. They give you a map when you arrive at the hotel with several footpaths - we did them all during our stay and it was so beautiful and relaxing. Perfect for a countryside break away from the city. Plus, they have an inside swimming pool, sauna & hammam. 100% recommend.

Some rooms have very small windows so would recommend to go for the upgraded one. Staff at the bar is not well organized compared to the receptionists and restaurant staff.

The room was wonderful and spacious with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was clean and bright. I ordered a bottle of champagne which was waiting in my room on arrival in a nice bucket of ice, which was lovely and the came with a few complimentary chocolates. Staff were very friendly, courteous and professional. I would definitely stay there again.

Although it was great, the room was too hot for some reason. The radiators were not on and it was not a hot day. The window could only be opened a few inches due to security fastenings on the window frame, but the hotel had supplied a fan which took the edge off slightly, making it just about bearable to sleep. The only other thing that was not up to scratch was the temperature knob on the shower kept slowly moving making it difficult to set the correct shower temperature. Other than that, I have no complaints.

The hotel is exactly as what you would hope and expect for an historic English manor. It is well preserved, clean, and beautiful. The room we stayed in was small but just fine (as we didn't spend much time there except to sleep). Walking the grounds was an absolute pleasure and access to a path through the neighboring forrest was on the outer edge of the grounds not too far away. The breakfast buffet was exceptional and had a great variety of things to eat and drink.

We stayed in a room on the top floor in July. Without airconditioning it was a bit warmer than I would like but a high quality fan is provided in the room, which worked nicely. The windows to the room were prevented from opening fully (for safety I assume), and would have helped to allow cool air into the room at night had they been able to open completely.

Lovely building and scenery. The staff was friendly and the bar seating are was perfect for grabbing a quick bite. We had a nice little swim in the spa area with the children so all and all a great hotel.

The only feedback I have for improvement, is the ventilation of the rooms. I understand its an old building but we could not even open the window wide enough to get some fresh air into the room. We did use the supplied fan but it was not good enough and the room got warm quickly. I would recommend getting a better airflow option for family rooms where you have more than 2 people in a tight area.

Beautiful grounds to walk around and the staff were lovely and attentive! They offered a late checkout without us asking. The building main areas and our bedroom were lovely too. They keep the whole place warm as well. The restaurant food was great - we had one dinner and all breakfasts there.

The only issue was the leisure facilities - the jacuzzi and steam room weren't working and we weren't informed I'm advance as we didn't book directly. The steam room was also often not working and when it was, it was warm not hot. The tennis court was good but we borrowed rackets and balls - they only had one ball that was good to use! I think they could easily invest a little more, even just buy some more tennis balls! - I'd suggest a revamp of leisure facilities but also they could offer bike hire and massages on site which I'm sure would be popular with all the weddings.

We stayed in a suite with a lovely garden view. We'd informed the staff it was a special occasion and they decorated the room beautifully, more than we'd requested. The suite was so spacious with a separate dressing room. The free standing bath was amazing. Breakfast was hearty and bountiful, and we loved having the grounds to walk around before we checked out.

An observation, not necessarily a criticism, is that the breakfast room feels a bit out of keeping with the rest of the lovely period character of the property and hotel.
