Great location for local walks with spectacular views. A tip, leave by the hotel's side access and keep walking uphill (road turns into a path between two fields), to the stone maze, then round the hill, and over the 'Cat's back', the views are stunning (wear waterproof boots if it has been wet recently, the path can get muddy and a bit overgrown out of season). The hotel's side exit is a bit hidden but it saves you going down the hotel's drive and back up the road at the side of the hotel. The hotel itself is a nice old hotel building in a beautiful town. The staff were very nice. Next time I might take my mountain bike, it looks like the old railway line to Dingwall is now a several km path.

I was there out of season so not everything was open in town. But in season more than enough just in Strathpeffer for a weekend/long weekend break.

It's a handsome looking hotel inside and out. I arrived late in the evening and after a brief conversation with Jolanta when I said I'd be leaving before breakfast I was offered a packed lunch which was gratefully accepted. When I made my reservation I knew I'd be working late and leaving early so I took no notice of breakfast availability and can't say if it was included in my room rate. I then went up to my room where I was very pleased to see a spacious and well appointed resting place. I'd be happy to return at another time but on a leisure basis to enjoy what the Ben Wyvis has to offer.

Just the noisy guest next door who had a very loud voice when making her phone call!

Beautiful traditional Scottish hotel in spacious grounds surrounded by trees. Excellent à la carte fare in the spacious Dining Room. Open log fire in the main guest sitting area. Room is comfortable and immaculately clean with writing desk, large mirror and plenty of cupboard and drawer space. Large white towels, and ample hot water in the bathroom. Kettle and coffee/tea making facilities. Friendly and helpful staff. Would happily book again.

The central heating broke down while I was there, and so the radiators were lukewarm. Since this was known at the time of check-in, and it was the middle of Winter, guests should be pre-emptively offered portable electric heaters to take to their room. I assume this will all be fixed and working by now.

The building itself was beautiful . All rooms in keeping with the building and tastefully done, beautiful grounds and a lively & lovely village. Really comfortable beds. The food was out of this world & honestly the best food we have had in all the hotels we have ever stayed in. All the staff were friendly, helpful, welcoming & nothing was too much trouble. Great knowledge of the area from reception staff. The waitresses/waiters were also very helpful and accomadated to our needs.

I can honestly say there was nothing we didn't like about our stay In our opinion it should be higher than a 3 star

This hotel has been transformed. Four years ago we stayed here and it was truly appalling -so bad that we went into town & bought new duvets just to keep warm in bed! The new owners have redecorated, put in excellent biomass heating, revitalised the way the hotel is run and introduce new staff, all of which which has made it a really pleasant place to stay. I would have no hesitation about recommending this to anyone and we thought it was excellent value for money. The grounds have been cleared and are a pleasure to walk in and the outside of the building has been restored to an extent. We understand from friends in the village that the management of the hotel has made a great effort to integrate in the community, for example, at the time of the coronation, and as other hotels in Strathpeffer are not providing adequate services for the individual traveller , this is now the premium place to stay and deserves the reputation it is rapidly developing.

Our only criticism was that the buffet breakfast provided a selection of fruit, which was all tinned; fresh, fruit, salad, or individual, fresh fruit would have been better, but there was plenty of yoghurt, and a cooked breakfast came quickly and was very good.

We had the family room on the far corner of the building, could not have asked for better. The room was nice, spacious, good views and felt very comfortable. The hotel has a great feel to it, old charm while still feeling current and comfortable. Grounds and surrounding areas are stunning. Dinner and breakfast were superb, we had just travelled through Europe staying at 5 different hotels and the breakfast at Ben Wyvis was probably the best of the trip. We travel regularly from Glasgow to Lewis, our previous stopover point had been Inverness... it will now be the Ben Wyvis Hotel, looking forward to returning.

Lovely looking building and really nice staff. I got a deal on the price which made it great value but that was only for a single bed and was the cheapest. Breakfast buffet was superb (all sorts of options, eat as much as you want); dinner menu was small but varied and the food was good wholesome and balanced (i.e. plenty of veg and potato, not just rich sauces and fatty meats). Overall it was enjoyable and if I needed to come to the Inverness area in future I would definitely look them up, but for me I love the West of the highlands so this short stay of 2 nights was just a stepping stone. Therefore I wouldn't have wanted to pay much more - but I appreciate that is very subjective. Small bar but good ales such as Coast To Coast. Room with a view was ok but not the most amazing view as it (the mountains) were way in the distance. And the hotel entrance and garden faced the same way anyway. The shower was lovely, even if the bathroom did look very dated (but it was finished well and nothing looked tired, so I'm only talking colour sheme here).

Nothing really other than the subjective things noted already. Maybe the dinner service between courses was a bit too quick, like they wanted you to eat and leave - but not sure it was intentional. Just felt a little rushed. The staff had a great attitude so it might just be they were trying to be efficient. The lounge was a little tired - the sofas felt saggy. Ignoring the deal I got, I would have preferred a double bed and generally a little more space for the money. For example at its foot end (the side of a wardrobe was right at the end) and the wardobe doors opened onto the wall-mounted tv. The window with a view was small and you could only see the view if you stood right at it. Otherwise from the bed there was nothing to see.

Strathpeffer is the most northerly spa town in the uk and the victorians would travel up from London for a visit. This hotel is located next door to the train station, which is now converted into a museum, cafe & shop. The railway line is a now a scenic walk for tourists. The Ben Wyvis hotel has a great location and fits is a well fitting addition with its grand Victorian architecture. Features include a big drive way & garden which takes you well off the main road though it is only a two minute walk from the village square and spa pavilion. The hotel itself has an impressive large dining hall with high ceilings and two big chandeliers. I would definitely choose it for your stay. The room was very clean, beds were comfy and they served haggis at the breakfast buffet👍

What's not to like. The hotel has all the charms of a Victorian town, it was adorable, clean and comfortable with wonderful staff and service at all hours. We particularly enjoyed the opportunity to take hot baths (and local highland soap) after long days of hiking. There are lots of hiking opportunities around and the hotel can be reached by bus from Inverness (except Sundays!!!). We got a lovely packed lunch and breakfast was fantastic, great selection and very yummy. The bar (great selection!!!) and common room are gorgeous and allow you to mingle with locals and fellow travelers. They even offer a selection of games and books to use during the visit. We originally had planned to book a B&B and feel this place gave us as close an experience to that as possible. Would recommend 100%

Though there was a selection of different menus, the dinner was a bit plain. Soups and deserts were great but the mains could partially do with a bit more seasoning.

The room was spotlessly clean and excellent value for money. The cooked breakfast was delicious and served in a beautiful room. The location of the hotel is excellent and the overall standard was very high. The room was warm, a little too warm and the bed was comfortable. The products in the bathroom gave a touch of luxury.

The staff were very polite and pleasant but could have given a warmer welcome and been a little more conversational. The tea tray in the room was a little low end in quality compared to everything else we experienced. The room was warm which we appreciated but probably did not need to be quite as warm. We had to open a window later on and felt that it was a waste of energy for the hotel.
