What a special place Highland Bear Lodge is! It is a hidden jewel only ten minutes from the town and about fifteen minutes by car to Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness. We felt so very welcomed by Rachel and Mark openness to the comforts of their much loved home. Although we never met them everything was beautifully taken care of without us even noticing someone’s presence. Their fascinating down stairs living room to their main house is open for all their guests to enjoy if you so please. The way they had our room set up, immediately felt special. Very romantic, relaxing and a private getaway. We stayed in the 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' room which was delightfully decorated. It over looked gorgeous lush greenery out towards a mystical lake. I even saw my first golden Scottish colored squirrel on the porch. They offer a hot tub ready and waiting ( with an additional charge understandably) for those who may enjoy an outdoor sock in this very special setting. If once you had arrived at the homestead and then feel you may have wished you’d picked up some alcohol or additional comforts, they had set up a variety of pleasures with an honesty system to pay so there is no need to bother returning back to town for nourishments or an exciting book to read. The’d thought of everything with even yummy nibbles in our room fridge and magically a fresh selection of breakfast goodies replenished daily. I personally loved socking in the enormous bathtub . We both slept so well in the most comfortable four poster bed. This was indeed a highlight places to stay.

It was all perfect.

The staff were amazing and went above and beyond, the lodge is very beautiful and the Queen Mary room was lovely and spacious.

The location is pretty isolated so getting food and such is quite difficult, at the same time, this is what you would want with such a vacation. It is worth mentioning that we went out for a walk and got pretty far on new year’s eve, we couldn’t find any method of transportation to get back since it was nighttime and it was a long walk. We called the lodge and they actually sent us someone from the lodge to come pick us up. Extremely grateful for the lovely staff

The bed was really excellent and the bedding was high quality. The 2 burner gas hob was great for light cooking, instructions were well explained for the amenities. We loved that we felt like we were in the trees, but in comfort.

Since it rains a lot, it would be helpful to have a small overhang over the front steps as we could not open the upper part of the door for fresh air without water running inside. Screens on the windows would allow for airing the place especially while using the gas hob and shower.

The lodge was beautiful and the rooms very comfortable. The location was idyllic and not too hard to get to from inverness.

The breakfast was very ordinary. It was just two croissants, a pack of Parma ham and a back of salmon, some butter and jam. We had some sachets of coffee and Tesco or quaker oat pots. I think we should have at least had some bread. I think they should have a kitchen in the lodge and some staff to make some hot breakfast especially give how far it is from shops. They should also improve the driveway to the property as it's very hard to drive up the hill to get to the property. They should add some lights along the driveway and outside the property as it's pitch dark after 7:30 and we needed to use flashlights to find our way to the house from the parking area.

Really lovely property, the house looks incredible and is in a beautiful location. Views in the morning were really something! We stayed in the king suite which was on the ground floor. The room was clean and absolutely huge and had a really lovely electric heater/fireplace which we loved. The living room area looked great (although we didn’t really use it as our room had plenty of space!).

There is a low shower over a bath and as a tall couple (5ft11 and 6ft5) this didn’t work for us unfortunately :) Pillows and duvet are both filled with feathers so careful if you have allergies or just don’t like it, as there is no alternative available. There is a hot tub but you have to pay extra in cash if you want to use it (the same goes for wine and beer in the room). We didn’t have any cash on us so had to skip it.

Beautiful location overlooking the loch. Large bedroom with settee, dining facilities for breakfast, books to read, etc. Breakfast was provided beforehand and was in the room with some items such as smoked salmon, parma ham, butter, milk, etc. in the fridge in the very big built-in wardrobe. There was an enormous sitting room for guests' use with several comfortable settees and chairs, floor-to-ceiling shelves of books and magazines, and wonderful views over the trees and loch. It was like staying in a mini stately home. You couldn't not like it!!

The steep drive up to the lodge could be better surfaced - but it did mean that you drove slowly and safely!

Our family had one room in the Highland Bear Lodge and both Bear Huts. First of all, the property is spectacular with lush landscaping, views and just 10-15 minutes to Loch Ness/Urquhart Castle. The room was clean and comfortable with a great continental breakfast in the refrigerator. The Bear Huts were adorable....not so much room for luggage, but really cool! Easy check in/check out. LOVED IT!

Not too close to restaurants so be prepared to go back into town for dinner!

The Highland Bear is fabulous. The outside of the Lodge, the grounds and the view are superb. Our room, "The Bonny Prince Charles" room was big, with a 4 poster bed. The bathroom was large with a bath. The bed was very comfortable as was the pillows and robes are always a bonus. The lounge and dining areas in the lodge are full of wonderful furnishings and authentic furniture and artifacts. We had the option of a spa with this room for a small extra fee, and took it. The views from the spa are lovely. The host left chocolates for our anniversary which was a very kind gesture. The surrounding countryside is interesting and varied, driving along the Lochs is a great experience.I would not hesitate to recommend this accomodation.

Only a small issue and that is the amount of chlorine in the spa pool but I totally understand that that is for hygiene reasons.

The beautiful woodland location just a short drive to the town, the very comfortable room that somehow felt both like a luxurious hotel room AND a homely bedroom at the same time, the excellent breakfast pack (what a great idea to minimise waste) and the spacious bathroom. The birds in the feeding station outside our window. The pine marten I spotted in the garden!

Really scraping the barrel here - not a criticism just a suggestion - the pendant light in bathroom is very low. My tall husband had a couple of near misses. Maybe it could be hoisted up a wee bit?

Felt like we were staying in a castle with stunning views . It was comfy cosy and spotless. Loved the breakfast left in our room and not forgetting the oat milk we had requested. Lovely touch selling products I purchased a Ginger bear candle. As quite remote such a great idea to leave wine / beer to purchase. The beer was so welcome to my husband after a long drive. Many thanks for having us.
