loved the hotel itself, really felt like we were in Scotland! Owner shared some of the history with us, the decor was fabulous too. Food was great too, ate all meals there and they even packed us a lunch for a day of hiking. Emma was a friend right away, always eager to help any way she could. Our 3 day stay went way too fast!

No where to put our things in the room, would have liked a shelf or small space where we could unpack a few things or set our luggage on so it wasn't on the floor. Of course there are probably bigger rooms than the one we had, but we loved it anyway! We do understand the history has a lot to do with room size too!

Location was lush, nestled between a few mountains, just the sounds of the river which is very close and the swifts which fly about the car park and nearby. There isn't much traffic along this little B road that the property is situated on. The porch sort of bit by the entrance was great, comfy and relaxing. Food was superb, although I couldn't manage to finish it all. All the staff were exceptionally friendly, accommodating and helpful. Public footpath and hiking trail close by. Great for meditation or just to get away from the bustle of urban life. It's got a unique quirkiness about the decor, the residents lounge was very comfy and even a vinyl record deck and a heap of board and card games/books etc.

the river that ran not to far from the hotel. It was rare and very hot in Scotland so I had the window open and listening to the river just chilling in the room was so relaxing. the food on offer was really nice too and a very big portion, so much so, I reluctantly had to decline a sweet lol. food is very good value for your buck

Hard to say. I was here stopping over due to work, so never had much time to properly explore the area, but shops etc, there didn't seem much around that you could walk too, but as I said, I never had time to properly explore, so this I wouldn't read too much into this. Fort Augustus is only a short drive away that has some shops etc, so even if there is nothing around, you ain't really too far away from shops. I do feel I am nit picking here lol

Fun place, great music. Owners have made a great effort to revitalise the hotel. The food is very good and reasonably priced.

We spent three nights there, but where shuffled into a back room for dinner all three nights for various reasons, including the fact we had a dog, but others who had dogs where not. The hotel was cold and they ran out of fire wood, a bit amusing considering they are located in a very forested area. I am somewhat sympathetic as the SNP in Scotland has made it very costly to run a hospitality business

It was a lovely stay at a unique hotel with Scottish atmosphere and culture. On Saturday night there is live music at the hotel pub, and we loved it! Very much fun and a true Scottish experience. The restaurant food is excellent, best onion rings ever! The breakfast is very nice as well. You have to pay extra for a cooked breakfast, but it’s not too expensive. The staff of the hotel is awesome and very kind. We felt more then welcome from the moment we arrived. We had a room with kingsize bed, and it was big and very comfortable. We slept like babies. We enjoyed our stay very much and really want to thank you for our first wonderful visit to Scotland. We would love to come back… with our dog next time!

The view was a little bit dissapointing because of the maintenance area across the road. One of our night-lights next to the bed didn’t work either, that’s something that can be fixed.

Loved sitting by the log fire in the lounge listening to vinyl records of our choice on their record player. Food was so tasty and also very imaginative. Atmosphere in the bar was great, a mix of locals and guests. Lovely and warm, nice comfortable room. It was quite small but plenty of room in lounge to sit and relax. Lots of choice at breakfast. We opted for the continental buffet which was included in the price so can't comment on cooked breakfast.

very quaint traditional Scottish hotel in a quiet picturesque area

we arrived at 14:30 after a long journey looking forward to a nice drink before checking in, to find the hotel CLOSED! We were not allowed into the hotel till after 15:00. I knew that we couldn’t check in till 15:00, but to not even let us in seemed quite rude. Our Australian friends were certainly unimpressed, particularly when we were miles from anywhere.

A very relaxed and friendly hotel. The food at breakfast and in the evening is really good. The hotel is full of interesting bits and pieces, and the staff are lovely. The area around and about is beautiful and peaceful. The road down to Fort Augustus is magical ... single track roads in places, but little traffic, so no bother.

Truly a 10/10 experience. Emma and her crew made this by far the best hotel experience any of us have ever experienced. If you're looking for a warm and welcoming atmosphere with amazing food, spacious rooms and stunning views, look no further! It is not often you're sad to continue on a roadtrip, but we already miss it!

was a very nice hotel. We were met by two young women who were excellent. They had us checked in very quickly and also assisted with a dinner booking.

Lady serving us struggled to understand us. I am Scottish so I’m not sure if she was doing it deliberately. I then asked for the dessert menu and she walked off (I thought to get the menus but instead talked to friends at the bar). she never bothered coming back. i thought everyone else was great. it was just this one lady that was extremely rude. The women serving the bar was also great. That’s why it’s a 8/10 for me. if it wasn’t for the lady serving us I would have said a 10
