Location was fantastic Staff were very friendly Breakfast was fantastic - Mikey, the chef was a delight and hot items were cooked to order and portion sizes were such that I often didn't need lunch! Room was a decent size Good sized bathroom

As many reviews have noted the interior of the building is looking old and worn and is in need of refreshment. As a consequence I feel that it is somewhat over priced Anyone with mobility issues will struggle with the stairs, there are a lot of them and no lift Shower over bath so stepping up/down was required Soft bed - but that is a personal preference for a harder mattress

The owner, Harvey, was a fantastic host - nothing was too much trouble for him. A fantastic ambassador for the hotel. Our rooms were warm and cozy, the bar was well stocked and well worth a visit in the evening, and the full breakfasts cooked by Mickie the chef were the best we've had anywhere.

The Hotel is undergoing rennovation, but this really didn't take away from our stay.

I had a fantastic stay at The Grand; despite the size of this magnificent building it retains a comfortable feeling which is complimented by the wonderful and thoughtful staff. The original features are also a bonus and the locals have plenty of stories to tell about the history of The Grand. If you want calm and beautiful views of the historic town with fresh coffee before heading out then this is the place to stay. Micky the chef was so attentive and provides a quality service. They really could not help enough. I came off the ferry at 0730 and was welcomed well before my check in. I look forward to returning!

The location is fantastic!! We could walk to everything in Lerwick. The staff at the hotel is kind, fun, friendly, helpful. The shower/tub was clean and comfortable and easy to use. Great light. The mattress was super comfortable and I slept really well. I would absolutely stay here again. The breakfast was astounding!!!!!

There are a lot of stairs and no elevator. I can do stairs, so it didn't bother me, but one woman in our group had an issue. The carpet in my bedroom seemed a bit tired and dirty, but the hotel is in the process of being re-done, so I'm sure it will be replaced as soon as the owner can afford it.

The breakfast was fantastic with everything you could possibly want. The welcome was great and the owner cod not do enough to help make the visit a success

Harvey and his family have recently taken over the ownership of the Grand Hotel. And may I say have a great deal of work in front of them, but that does not stop them from giving the guests the wonderfull welcome and care throughout your stay. Everything from entering the Grand and the friendship of Harvey and staff is something you don,t get in every hotel. One thing I do know is that he has great plans for the hotel so I really hope the Shelties will gather around and support him. We do hope to return in the not too distant future so until then I wish Harvey and Family also staff the very best of luck with there new venture.

First and foremost, the staff were exceptional! Harvey, Mickey, Suzie,Holly, Skylar—these people were what made this place such a great place to stay. why? When my husband asked for a bagel for breakfast and they didn’t have it that day, Mickey went to the store and Kurt had a bagel the rest of the stay. Harvey took our luggage to the ferry terminal so we wouldn’t have to carry it down there. When we brought take away to the lounge the staff made sure to get us cutlery and napkins. It was in the center of town right with some excellent restaurants just a few steps away. We had a room with a great view of the harbor.

It would have been nice to have a small refrigerator in our room.

I loved my stay here. My room (324) was just the right size, en suite and located in a quiet wing. The furnishings and whole vibe of the place is Boho/shabby chic. I mean this in a good way. The ambience is laidback, friendly, uncomplicated. One could be extremely picky about some flaws and details in the decor or upkeep of the place, but it was clean, comfortable and not only nice staff but nice clientele as well. I would have stayed there on my return trip, but had private arrangements instead. However, I would definitely go back. The girls serving in the bar, the kind man who made generous breakfasts, and particularly Harvey the owner, were all lovely people. The hotel‘s in a great central location, there are cheaper places to stay, but none with the same vibes or funkiness.

The stairs in the place might be difficult for some guests. But the persons at check-in offered to carry my heavy bag.

This was a last minute booking. I was staying an extra night in Lerwick. This is an historic building (one of the oldest in Lerwick) and is being lovingly restored to its original glory buy the young owners. I had a beautiful room with a great view of the harbour. The bathtub was devine! Comfortable bed and friendly, helpful staff.

Be forewarned that there are no lifts. The owner carried my bag up and that was lovely. I think it would be a good idea to say this in the listing.
