I liked the facilities, the location, efficient check in.
A staff member on reception wouldn’t call me a taxi. For me this is a basic service that hotel reception staff should provide. Also the bar was closed way too early on a Friday night, closed before midnight.

Amazing value for money. The pool, sauna & jacuzzi are great. Yes, perhaps could do with a little updating, and maybe a little cold - but, for the people that have moaned in previous comments…..!!! Honestly, the world seems to just be full of Karen’s these days. We had an amazing time, the games room is a great touch and all the staff were friendly. I don’t think you could find any better in the UK when you consider the value for money!
Could be probably doing with a little updating in areas - but can’t fault it otherwise!!!

It's a traditional hotel that welcomes dogs. We love that there is a separate dining room where dogs are welcome. Great to be able to have a sauna and swim too. Spacious rooms. We usually stay here when taking the Cairnryan ferry. The food is good value, especially in the D, B & B option. There is a delightful Alpine bar with curling rink, really unusual and atmospheric, and a nice place to take a drink before dinner. Good parking. Overall I recommend this hotel.
The food is good value, especially in the D, B & B option, but is a bit basic/odd/dated (not sure what was in my creamy garlic mushrooms but the 'sauce' was a thick paste like it was made with mashed potatoes). Lovely old-fashioned characterful main dining room - again, food options let it down a bit - no cooked veggie or vegan breakfast options at all, or hashbrowns or tattle scones. Not looking to have fancier food, just needs modernising or more kitchen skills/experience.

The accessible room (Room 61) was excellent. Very large and roomy. Twin beds, as requested. Plenty of space for my wife's electric mobility scooter. The bathroom was perfect - large and full "wet floor" room and shower. Bathroom very well lit. We were almost opposite the lift too. Modern TV. Breakfast had a good choice of hot and cold items. Our evening dinners were taken in the restaurant overlooking the Ice Rink. Very good menu choice and everything really enjoyable. Congratulations to the Chef & Catering Saff. I also made use of the excellent swimming pool. The main entrance has stairs, but we were able to use the rear entrance with no access problems, and dedicated Disabled Parking bays. All the Staff were extremely kind and helpful - a really professional team.
The lighting in our room was small wall mounted lamps and bedside table lamps. It would have been better to have at least one large, brighter light which could be switched on when required. The lift is a bit old-fashioned and a wee bit creaky, but worked OK.

The staff were very friendly. It's very close to the Stena Line Ferry Port. The rooms were nice and warm, and there is parking on site
The hotel is rated as a three star, so i didn't expect luxury, but the rooms definitely need an update. We stayed on our way to catching a ferry to Ireland and also for one night on our return journey. The shower in our first room was good, but the water pressure on our return journey in a different room was less powerful, and the mattress seemed to dip in the middle. I guess it depends on which room you are allocated, but the second room was a bit of a disappointment. Overall, though, I think the price we paid for last-minute bookings due to the Holyhead Port closure was fair.

Lovely hotel - the rooms are looking dated now, they used to be so grand and a bit of money is needed to replace some carpets and furniture in the rooms as they are damaged, torn and look old. Staff are brilliant nothing is too much for them The pool is dated, it could be so much better. The breakfast is brilliant, so tasty and whilst there is a bit of chaos with regard to several staff approaching asking the same questions they genuinely are trying to make sure you have everything you need and are very hard working Reception staff are very helpful and polite The lady who deals with the little shop for curling was brilliant - went over and above to meet my request - thank you All in all a beautiful hotel that is absolutely ready for some refurbishing to make it the high class place it should be
Ripped carpets and furniture. The make do way the pool and gym area has been maintained

Dining room staff friendly & efficient. Food of great quality as usual. 1 out of 2 receptionists friendly. (Blonde the friendly one). Room was clean, comfortable, warm & cosy. Ample parking despite it being busy. Hotel beautifully decorated for Christmas. Been going to this hotel for 47 years to attend receptions, parties & work conferences & now that I do not live in Stranraer I tend to book a room there when I go home. It has always been consistently high quality & I would always recommend it.
Residents bar not open & not made to feel welcome in The Alpine. Not by the staff but by those waiting on curlers coming off the rink. Very much "their" place. My advice is to watch out for the teeny tiny reserved signs one "lady" will let you know not to sit there before you even get a chance to read the sign. Huge eye rolls & deep sighs from one receptionist when making a request & not very welcoming when we checked in. Be prepared for small price hikes as breakfast was a ÂŁ1 more per person than stated on Booking.com.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the food was good.. The hotel is ideally situated for visiting the area. I used the leisure facilities in the hotel which were perfectly adequate although could do with being modernised. The wifi worked very well for me throughout the hotel. The hotel was busy with guests from different countries which is gpod to see.
My room overlooked an asbestos roof which was the hotels ice rink. During our stay there was a wedding function on in the ice rink and the noise from the music could be heard quite clearly in my room which meant I couldn't get to sleep until wedding was over. Room furniture could do with being updated. Within the leisure suite there was no bodywash/shampoo provided and no secure lockers and the roll of bags for wet costumes was empty. None of these would prevent me staying there again though.

We booked a double room with a loch view and ended up with a double room, lounge area and two balconies, one overlooking the loch. The furniture in the room was a little dated but fine as we were only there for one night before our ferry to Larne, the view over the loch and the balcony made up for it. I cannot sing the praises of the staff in the restaurant enough as they were very attentive, discreet and very friendly. Dinner was very good and breakfast great. Plenty of free parking. Only a 10 minute drive to our ferry port at Cairnryan.
The fruit salad at breakfast was cut very fine and in a fruit juice, a bit more like a cold fruit soup.

The staff were so friendly and helpful throughout the duration of our stay. The breakfast was fantastic! The leisure facilities were ideal for our family, the pool and jacuzzi are great! Our family room was a great size for us and 3 kids. It was great to have a proper bath in the bathroom to be able to bath the baby. The hotel is a 5 minute walk into Stranraer, great location! Staff so welcoming, very family friendly and clean place in a beautiful big building with beautiful gardens.
The hotel is a bit dated, but this is not something I disliked, I thought it added to the character of the hotel!
