We arranged a family reunion to celebrate my wife's 80th birthday, not knowing the hotel but chosen for convenience for travelling from central Scotland and Ireland. Our anxiety about suitability of the hotel was unnecessary as the leisure facilities proved to be excellent (swimming pool with sauna and jacuzzi,) very large games room (bowling, snooker. billiards, table tennis) and lounges. The staff were very obliging and did so much to make the weekend memorable. There were two large weddings in the hotel during our stay but the service we enjoyed could not have been better.

The décor in some areas was dated but everywhere was clean. The lounge areas and bedrooms were very comfortable

Nice room - lovely bathroom.

No housekeeping checks in the room unless you ASK . Customer could indicate if new towels were wanted. I had to collect teabags at reception and wash the cups. If I'd been at home I would have hoovered after three days - I was there 8 nights - room cleaned once - at my request (though ignored the first time I asked). I was sorry the price (over £100 per night) didn't include breakfast. When I queried it at check-in I think I could have been offered to book for breakfast...

We were in the bungalow attached to the hotel, that was good for us as our dog reacts to noise by barking to let us know that someone is outside. We had to leave early to catch a ferry so were unable to wait for breakfast. The room was ideal as we could walk straight out into a grassy area and leave without disturbing anyone.

As we were only there for one night we did'nt see much of the Hotel but the check in was quick and efficient and the breakfast smelled great as we passed the kitchen. The public areas seemed a bit dated but in tone with age of the building but maybe a little makeover would do!

reception elspeth?? on the ball / attentive hello welcome which was nice. hotel clean, staff presentable, breakfast staff attentive. room clean (was our second visit - first visit rm21, really impressed rm18). breakfast food hot, no errors, delivered quickly. had saccharine/sweetener as am diabetic. impressed last willing to find some. check say thank you!

arrived in heavy rain. tiled floor inside foyer. needs anti slip mat. we have a dog. no nearby grass. perhaps a small area can be put aside for plastic grass area with watering can/ hose - just a suggestion.

The grand entrance and decor, it felt like stepping back in time, but in a good way. The size of the rooms were excellent, with comfortable furniture and very clean. The swimming pool was a good size with great facilities. The staff were really lovely and helpful. The bar was really lovely in decor and good prices. The cooked breakfast was tasty. The main dining rooms had chandeliers. All was extremely clean and well presented. We really enjoyed our stay and will book into this hotel again.

There was a slight tobacco smoke smell in the upstairs corridor. The breakfast area was empty of fresh fruit, yoghurt, and most cereal by 9.15am. I small top-up would have been nice.

Food was superb. Compliments to the chefs. Both dinner & breakfast were delicious. The swimming pool was good, as well as jacuzzi. Room was large. Old fashioned style furniture, but of decent quality & standard. This is a nice hotel, with excellent good old-fashioned table service. Staff were superb.

We booked through booking.com. certainly wouldn't do that again! Booked a twin room for two. The hotel only got notification of one! So we ended up having to pay an extra £44 for food! It meant it was a very expensive stay! Check out was 11am. I asked about midday checkout and was told it would be £25 extra! We declined.

We had a balcony which was great, looking over the Loch. The double bed was comfortable and 2 twins put together which was good as you don't feel the other person moving overnight. The room was a good temperature and the balcony doors could be opened to get fresh air. The breakfast was made fresh to order which is unusual in a big hotel and evening meal was really tasty and changed every night also drinks weren't to pricey. There was a tribute act on which couldn't be heard from the room. There was plenty of free parking and located in town centre. The leisure club is in need of some refurbishment but a good sized pool and jacuzzi and sauna

The hotel is dated but is the same for many hotels following covid, didn't put me off. The shower was correct height for my wife but not for me and wasn't adjustable, not to much of a problem as I had showers after a swim.

I really liked the location and having leisure facilities. It's easy to find when coming from the ferry and it's also an uncomplicated walk into the town centre. I had the dinner, bed, and breakfast package. Dinner was very tasty with good variety on the menu. Breakfast was a bit less varied but was cooked freshly to order. I had the Castle Fry, which was tasty and piping hot. All the staff were friendly and helpful. I am looking forward to my return visit.

It's not really something unlikeable, but more of a tip for using the leisure centre, which is to bring toiletries, as none are supplied.

From the moment you walk through the revolving doors, which are amazing, you are met by friendly, warm, welcoming staff. Our room was on the 2nd floor, which we got to by the quirky lift. The room and bathroom were a good size, with both a bath and shower. Each morning, we woke up to a fantastic view of Lough Ryan. The room was lovely and warm with tea and coffee facilities and a mounted TV. The cooked breakfast (Castle Grill) was filling and tasted good. There was also a good selection of cereals. There was one member of staff Lyndsey who had served us a few times, was always bubbly and welcoming, plus nothing was too much trouble. The spa is a great addition. It was nice being able to take a morning swim followed by the sauna. The positioning of hotel is great for people coming off the boat and has everything you need close by. The Castle is a great attraction where you can see a good bit of Stranraer.

I always, now, stay at this hotel, big enough to always have a room - superb for business, workmen in transit, leisure travel, a relaxing hospitable, relaxed stay, even if you have to be 'up & out' early; the above star ratings say most of it; absolutely superb facilities, & most certainly staff - welcoming, friendly, hospitable, Ultra- professional; above all that is what comes out of the kitchen - absolutely wonderful + a good, complimentary, wine list; &, excellent value for money. A superb community centre with the curling rink too. I sincerely thank term all there.

Nothing not to like.
