The California Inn is a nice and simple hotel along Route 66, perfect for our stop in Barstow on the way to Los Angeles. The hotel is a bit dated, but everything was fairly clean and very comfortable. We had everything we needed for the night, including various soaps and clean towels and linnen. AC was working as it should! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a bit crowded, so be sure to go as early as possible (August). The pool was quite cold, but very pleasant due to the hot weather. Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much!

Cleaning could be a little better; a few towels still had stains on them, but I asked for a few clean towels and got them without a problem. The pillows were a bit soft for my liking. Matresses are a little old, but otherwise comfortable.

made reservations from May 2-6, but family plans changed and changed our stay to 2-5, I told the California inn rep when we checked in on 5/2 that we would be checking out on 2/5, she said in order for me to get a refund of the last day of 5/6 I have to go through Booking.com, I called Booking.com and I’m told the Hotel has to be the one to give me my refund, I went back to the hotel and the Asian clerk said no I have to go through Booking.com. so it’s been a week since we checked out and I haven’t gotten a refund, which is over $100 per night.

Appreciated the free breakfast. Was so happy to score an affordable stay so late at night during our roadtrip, when we had given up the drive due to sheer exhaustion. The room had a balcony too so it was a lovely way to start the day, seeing the sun rise over the desert. Lovely pool too.

The carpet and furnishings could do with a refresh to make the whole place look more modern and airy. Coupled with the dim lighting, and old-fashioned but sturdy bathroom (and the sink next to the door), it felt like a repurposed hospital room at first. We could not find the laundry room as well, if it does exist, because the signages had us going in circles throughout the hotel.

The staff were extremely helpful and provided an alternative room to the one that we were first assigned. Welcome cookies and mints were always on offer in reception and on a very cold day, this was nice and warm. The room itself was more than adequate. Coffee was provided and the staff were more than happy to provide extras should you need them. Although the town itself wasn't particularly pretty, we were able to buy propane gas and had the best pizza of our lives at the Firehouse Restaurant directly across the street. It was seriously good!!! Breakfast was as advertised. Items were replenished as necessary and in a timely fashion.

The rooms surrounding the laundry room are most certainly affected by noise as a) there is no door to that room (it is basically in the corridor) and b) people do not adhere to times of operation and so there was no guarantee as to what time you might hear the washing machines and tumble dryers BUT as mentioned, we were moved and so were very happy about that. If you are not affected by noise pollution, this is nothing to worry about.

was able to get room on ground floor with French door so I could load and unload my vehicle without having to go down the hall and out the gate. Furniture arranged functionally and was proportional to room. Room showed some signs of wear, but that gave the room "character". Breakfast was well above average. Two kinds of eggs, biscuits & gravy, waffles, cereals, hot instant oatmeal. This is more than found in more expensive places I;ve stayed.

internet was not secure. would prefer if motel had a secure network. Had difficulty getting hot water in the bathroom in the evening after checking in. The next morning, hot water was adequate. Not sure why hot water not available the previous evening.

The breakfast was great. Lots of foods to choose from. We love that we are able to walk to the Italian restaurant across the street for dinner. There is also many other choices from Cattleman's to fast food close by. There are also gas stations and the freeway extremely close by.

We've stayed here a few times and have always been happy. The only thing to note, this time the exterior door B was having trouble opening. The green light would come on but the door would not unlock. We witnessed others having this problem as well.

The stay exceeded our expectations that we got from the pictures and some of the reviews. The room was big and clean, we had a room with a nice view to the pool. There were even free water in the fridge. The extra bed arranged for us was really comfortable. Breakfast was good. Nice pool area, the pool was cold but it was nice because of the heat. Also laundry available. Nice location on our way to Las Vegas. Several restaurants and shops close by. Calico ghost town 15 min away by car.

Everything was great.

Check in was easy, we were able to park right outside our room and bring our luggage through the patio door. Room looked to be recently renovated and was clean and smelled fresh. Breakfast was much better than most places that offer it - lots of hot choices as well as the usual cereal, yogurt, etc. Would also recommend DiNapoli's Firehouse Restaurant across from the Inn - good food and great service!

The only issue was that the sliding patio door wasn't working properly and would only open about a foot and a half. An easy fix, I'm sure!

Better than I thought. Breakfast was delicious, hot and good selections. Sausage was better than Dennys. I was impressed with the lady keeping up with cleaning and supplying breakfast. Our air-conditioning went out and they transferred us to the next room. Staff were nice.

First room has a creaky floor. Shower seems worn out on some part. Towel bar is loose. They won't let you use the bathroom in the lobby because it's for employees only. Well, what if you crap before getting to your room?

i liked everything about the property. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Check in was smooth. the room was clean and comfortable. Balcony overlooking the pool. They have all kinds of little extras in the room that you get only at more expensive places. Shampoo, lotion, hand wipes, shower cap, makeup wipes and there is a small coffee maker in the room which is perfect for the first cup while you get ready to start the day. There was even a bathroom scale in our room to remind me to not eat too much at the breakfast buffet. And that is exactly what they have for breakfast. One of the best I have ever run across at a budget motel. They have everything there. Coffee, juice, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, omelettes, sausage, biscuits and sausage gravy, apples, bananas, toast, doughnuts and pastries, waffles, milk, two types of creamers, and a very pleasant woman named Marta, who keeps it all running in the morning. The parking lot is well lit and there are numerous security cameras throughout the well kept property. This is an older, renovated property but it is way worth it for the money. We will definitely stay here every time we come through Barstow.

Nothing really. Some parts of the motel are a little dated but no big deal.
