The Esquire Hotel Downtown Gastonia, Ascend Hotel Collection

The property was in a good location in Downtown Gastonia. Very clean. There was a bar and restaurant, and another eatery on the property. The roof was a great place to go with a drink and/or a snack. It was set up with tables and chairs and comfy couches.

The only thing we had an issue with the property was the parking. It wasn’t private parking, so one time we had to park on the street. We were okay with it, just thought it was odd that there was no designated hotel parking. Also, the room was tiny…..again we were okay with it because we weren’t in the room all day…..just needed a place to sleep.

This is my second stay at the esquire and every time is amazing! After check in we went down to barristers for a drink or three lol. The bartender was fun and pleasant and she really enhanced our experience. The staff at the notary the next morning was amazing! The young man in the kitchen went above and beyond. I had a special request and instead of acting like it was inconvenient he went above and beyond my expectations. The entire staff here is the best of the best. The front desk, housekerping, even the gentleman working maintenence this morning greeted me with a warm genuine smile and a hello.

I only have one complaint about the esquire.. my complaint is that I just can't stay here every day.

We were very warmly welcomed for dinner without reservations at the restaurant when our family met us at the hotel. The meals were all excellent as well as the service. We enjoyed several very good breakfasts at the Notary in the basement. The hotel has been very nicely restored from its previous use.

The size of the room was very small but we made it work. We knew that would probably be the case but went for the location and ambiance. The windows were original and very historic but single pane and allowed too much noise from the wedding reception downstairs on one night and the club across the street.

I loved the area the hotel was located in and the room was absolutely gorgeous.

The staff in the restaurant and bar was rude they acted like we didn't belong there we were ignored several times and we chose to leave the establishment and go across the street to the Irish bar where we were treated better. They need more training in customer service and the kicker we are African American. Not a good look.

It had a vintage feel to it. A good location in downtown Gastonia NC. it was clean and the staff was friendly.

Very little vending. I was able to get a 12 oz can of soda after the restaurant closed but that was about it. The bar was off limits because of an event. Bring your own snacks! It was a little pricey so I felt I should have had some access to the bar for the price I paid for the room.

Th property was in a good location. I liked that it was a remodeled older building. The room was very clean and it was very nice. it was perfect for our one night stay. We walked to dinner and that was very nice. It is very close to some cute downtown attractions.

The only thing that I found less than desirable was the water pressure in the shower.

Katie in the coffee shop was amazing! She was knowledgeable about the hotels history and was super friendly. She made great recommendations and encouraged me to check out the rooftop which did not disappoint! (See pics). I enjoyed all the beautiful chandeliers, original brick, and hard wood floors. Although I didn’t get a chance to explore the area too much it’s very walkable to many things. 10/10 will stay here again.

The rooms were a bit small but didn’t bother me. There were also a lot of lady bugs in the room which also didn’t bother me but more of an observation. They are working on the menu in the coffee shop for breakfast which could’ve been better but the coffee was great!

We booked thru Booking and had an issue with the filters and recommendations-- The Esquire was listed as having all our accommodations but when we got there we found out it wasn't so.. We explained our situation to the manager who was sympathetic to our situation and understood that all the hotels that weekend in the area were booked. She went out of her way to make sure we got everything we needed and did not have to stress about our weekend. Thank you so much for going above and beyond and helping make it a memorable weekend!

It was clean enough. A/C worked. About it.

If you need something to drink or snack on after about 9pm, you're just sol. No store or vending machines. Nohing in walking distance. An advertised amenity of complimentary breakfast on their website is not true. Pay for it or you get nothing! Room rate still $$$ after tax.

The style of the hotel was incredible and the staff was wonderful. The hotel was very clean and the staff was helpful. The best part of the stay was the breakfast!

The rooms were very small but it’s understandable with the building being a historic remodel. The shower water pressure was terrible, it was like drips from the shower head the entire stay. The wifi connection was very unstable and I ended up having to use my personal hotspot instead for the majority of the stay. Normally these things wouldn’t be a huge issue but with covid we found ourselves in our room more than a normal trip where these things were an inconvenience
