Hotel Plaza San Francisco

The hotel is located in the old town, right next door to the oldest church in the city, founded in the late 17th century, and only a few minutes walk from Santa Lucia station. I was delighted with the location, because so much of where I wanted to go, like the museum of pre-Colombian art and other museums, were in easy walking distance (less than 20 mins), as was Barrio Lastarria, a precinct with many restaurants and cafes. I also found the staff very friendly and courteous, keen to ensure that, as a solo traveller of mature years, I was secure and well looked after.

The hotel is not a modern property. For me that was part of its charm. While it is showing its age in places, its location and the friendliness of the staff more than compensated. Other reviewers have commented unfavourably on the wifi in the hotel, but I found it more than adequate, although I was not downloading movies or trying to play video games. The breakfast is limited but I found plenty of options. My main disappointment was the lack of an electric kettle in the rooms. I wanted to make tea but there was only a Nespresso style coffee maker. I didn’t bother to ask for a kettle so don’t know what the reaction would have been if I had done so.

Perfectly located for exploring the central area of Santiago. The rooms are very good quality, with a historic feel to them and very comfortable beds. The bathrooms are very good. We stayed here twice, bookending our holiday in Santiago, and the rooms we stayed in were identical to each other. The reception staff and door staff are incredibly polite and helpful, and the transfer service to the airport was good value and relaxing. Breakfast was good. We felt totally relaxed here and looked forward to staying here at the end of our stay before flying home.

If you're looking for somewhere to eat, walk 15 minutes east down the main road to find many very good bars and restaurants. The main square area, which is closest to the hotel, doesn't have many options. The restaurant in the hotel is fine but we found the vibe to be slightly off - it would be improved by lower lighting, music, and fewer wait staff.

Our room was large, clean and comfortable, with a shower, bath and jacuzzi. The hotel is located in the centre of Santiago and we were able to walk around and see the sights. All of the food was good, but we particularly enjoyed the sandwiches in the Bristol bar. The staff were all so welcoming and helpful that we felt at home - many of them speak good English which was nice for us because our Spanish is inexcusably poor.

Great location to walk to major sites. Great breakfast buffet and staff.

Strange policy with coffee pods in rooms

It would have been nice to have coffee and tea for two in the king room. It seemed to be set up for one and the comp items were one time only...

We got an up grade to a suite which was great. The staff were very friendly. The location was close to the plaza de armes which was good for first time visitors.

The bar staff could have been more attentive.

Very good city centre location. Staff are very helpful (I arrived well before check in time and a room was provided straightaway), good breakfast, very good bar and restaurant, strong WiFi. Good value.

Carpets and furnishings are a bit dated in certain places. Bottled water in the room is chargeable and there is no kettle in the room.

The place is very fancy looking on the inside, the room is spacious, with a lot of wood furniture and paneling, and there are cool looking horse statues in the lobby. The spa was great to have access to - there is a good sized, heated indoor pool with a little waterfall and jacuzzi jets in a room with dimmed lighting, very relaxing. In the locker rooms there is a wet sauna with two levels of seating, and the steam had a nice scent to it, I'm not sure what it was. Locker and spa access was included. There is also a fitness center. Breakfast was a big buffet with plenty of options, even dessert. The tub in the room was big enough to comfortably have a bath in. Staff speaks good English and was very helpful with arranging a taxi to the airport and storing our bags the day we checked out. The location is great, within walking distance of plenty of good restaurants. The hotel also has a restaurant and bar, though I didn't try it during my stay.

The bed was a little too bouncy for my taste. There is water available in the main hallway of the spa, but it would be great if there was also some available in the locker rooms so you don't have to come all the way out to the hallway before/after using the sauna.

Staff was very helpful and friendly. Food was delicious, nice breakfast. Good location to get around easily. Nice pool and sauna facilities.

Slightly older property but clean

Room was good size. Same for bathroom and for walkin closet. Bed very comfortable. Our room was on the 4th floor; view was so-so. Staff very attentive and helpful.

One complimentary expresso coffee cartridge for 2 people per day. Must purchase additional--not fitting for a 5 star hotel.
