Hotel Ocho Barrios

we liked the little apartment were we stayed whit a fireplace and a porch with a nice little garden ,very well mantain mexican style rustic hacienda, we really loved that is a walking distance to the center, the plaza and the artesanal market, everithing is on walking distance very close to the andador as well (pedentrian turistic area restaurants shop bars and nightlife)we will definitely stay there again!! and very nice staff as well thanks! ps good internet 60mega! street parking very secure and quiet area alwais available spaces.

is perfect

The staff were helpful and friendly and lovely - quite perfect. The breakfasts were simple but good. Our 2 bedroom house right in the hotel complex was great for us size wise. We didnt use the kitchen. The wifi was good. Both bedrooms had a lot of blankets as the house was chilly in the evening.

Our only negative was that the house was cold and smelled a bit like mildew. We didnt see any, and it looked clean, but did have a funky smell. We think maybe it was the wood cupboards. We thought a heater would have been nice, because the fireplace wasnt in use. We needed it. The bathroom took a bit of getting used to because of the windows and cool evenings.

Antonio, who is in charge of the place, is a charming man and he will look after you. The staff really make the place. I ought to mention Mario in this dispatch who keeps the place ticking. The garden areas, with sweet smelling jasmine, tables and chairs make it a convivial area.

Although it was fairly quite and peaceful when I was there, I suspect that in the high season, when the place is full, noise, for light sleepers could be a problem. All the rooms are arranged around the reception area and two separate bits of garden.

We loved the location - close enough. The staff were outstanding and helpful - we really loved the staff. Antonio was so friendly and a perfect host. The breakfast didnt have much variety but was tasty and perfect for our stay. We were very happy with our stay overall.

We stayed in the Casa Mexicana - the 2 bedroom house. The house was comfortable for sleeping, but was very chilly by afternoon with no way to heat it up, and had a musty smell that permeated the air. This was our only negative experience there, but the staff made up for the chilliness, and smell.

Incredible breakfast, home made and delicious ; the hotel is also really well located, in the centre of San Cristobal, next to everything. However, it is not noisy at all and the street remains very calm to sleep well at night. But more than all of these good points, what makes the place so excellent is the staff who runs the place : thanks a lot to Antonio and his family for their great welcoming ! Antonio helped us a lot to book tours in the region as well. Indeed, he even woke up at 3:30am to make sure we caught our transportation from the hotel. And the staff had prepared a lunch bag for us as we could not have breakfast at that time. Thanks a lot to Antonio and all the staff !!

Everything was perfect

Ocho Barrios is a very nice, clean and cosy place to stay in San Cristobal. Situated very, very close to the city center with an amazing flair and great staff. The communication with the hosts was great and easy. They are very friendly and always open to help, e.g. booking tours, offering laundry service etc. The delicious local breakfast in the garden was highly appreciated every morning. We highly recommend the place to stay and the hosts. Thank you very much and all the best!

Everything during our stay was great, starting with the wonderful hospitality offered by all that work at Ocho Barrios. The grounds were beautifully decorated and it felt like a treat to have a garden to retreat to after being out for the day or when having breakfast. The room was comfortable and adequate in size, we had hot water for warm showers and extra blankets for the cold (which we didn't need, but nice to have). All common areas and rooms were spotless. Breakfast was delicious, we really enjoyed the homemade jam they prepared. Definitely our go to for trips to San Cristobal from now on.

Loved everything! If I had to ask for anything, light blocking curtains would be a nice touch.

The garden is lovely and the breakfast was very good, much better than expected. I was in a hurry and they served me very quickly. Thank you. Internet worked well. It was very quiet (possibly due to the fact that it's a good 10 mins to the Zocalo). The bed was very comfortable.

The bathroom had a strong drain smell most of the time. The room was very small, luckily I was by myself. I was given some wrong information by the hotel manager regarding a visit to Tonina and even when I challenged that, I was told that it was definitely closed because of Covid. I managed to go there with a tour company the next day 😉, everything was open except the site museum (the tour company had omitted to tell me that fact...).

Ocho Barrios was far better than expected! The staff was very attentive, meeting our needs above and beyond expectation. We travel to San Cristobal at least 6 times per year for holidays, and although this was our first time staying at this property we will certainly stay there for all future trips.

The only thing that would make Ocho Barrios better would be locating it closer to the square..

I spent over a month at Posada Ocho Barrios in San Cristobal. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and am beyond grateful for the kindness of the personnel, beautiful/peaceful grounds and the overall excellent service provided. The personnel went out of their way to look out for me during my stay and as a solo female traveler- it was very much appreciated. It's also an amazing location and a nice daily breakfast is provided. Would 100% stay again and thank you to all at Ocho Barrios for a beautiful stay.
