Hotel Montejo

This was our favourite place we have stayed in Mexico. Great location. Room was super spacious, and had a desk which was a nice touch. The beds were really comfortable and the air conditioning worked really well. Shower water pressure was excellent, great hot water. We also got new bottles of water every day which was much appreciated. WiFi really good.

We couldn't get the TV to work but that wasn't a problem. Plenty of laundries located nearby to get some laundry done :)

The hotel is located dead in the center of the city, yet the rooms are relatively quiet since they're separated from the street by the courtyard. The courtyard is a nice place to hang out for this reason also. The staff is nice and willing to help. Reasonably priced. Large bed, good AC and WiFi. Authentic feel of the building and the interior of the room. Free parking, but it's two blocks away and requires someone of the staff to come with you to open the gate - although they will also just give you the key if you insist and bring it back immediately afterwards. Also, upon arrival, just park on the side of the road (it's one-way) in front of the hotel door with your indicators flashing. This seems to be custom in Merida. You can then check-in and afterwards move the car to the parking.

Our AC was very noisy, almost ridiculously noisy to be fair. This was the only thing that really disturbed me. Parking not ideal (see above), but good enough, you don't need (or want) to drive in Merida anyway. The room was clean and cleaned well, but there was some dust on the ceiling and some mold high up on the walls in the bathroom, which I guess is practically unavoidable in an old building with high ceilings. It didn't really bother me, but if you're very particular about cleanliness, it will probably bother you. The room is quiet for being in the center of the city, but you do still hear some traffic sometimes. But again, this is practically unavoidable.

Ideal position for exploring the historical Centro area, very close to the central plaza and cathedral, and nice walk to Plaseo de Montejo Visited in May so very hot and was great to have use of a pool. The staff were very helpful.

Would have been nice to have had a mini fridge and kettle as an optional extra in the room. Staff kindly allowed us to use their fridge for keeping water cold.

The junior suite was quiet, even though the hotel is very close to the Central Plaza (a few blocks away). The rooms were plenty large and the beds comfortably firm. The air conditioners were quiet and effective. The bathroom was clean, but could use better lighting closer to the sink area. For a more economical hotel, it was very nice. We did have a rental car, which we kept in the secure hotel lot for our stay; we needed hotel staff to assist us in directing us to the lot, opening and closing the gate, and walking back to the hotel. Because of the one-way streets, the lot seems farther away then it is but the walk from the hotel is about 5+ minutes. Although there is no designated parking in front of the hotel, a short loading or unloading park is fine and done frequently all along the one-way streets of central Merida.

I loved Hotel Montejo because is a traditional building with hacienda look and is cozy.

I was not happy with one man staff (Didn’t get his name) early morning on the front desk because he was not friendly or he never said Good Morning if we didn’t say. He’s not good customer service. But Gabby was perfect customer service she get the 100%, Gracias Gabby.

This hotel is in such a lovely building. The room was huge. Furnishings in keeping with the building. Modest but functional bathrooms. Staff helpful. Pool available though we didn't use and it is quite small, but has deckchairs. We loved sitting in the courtyard and reading on the first floor balcony. it's very close to the historic centre of town and not far from the bus stop for the Mundo Maya museum.

Excellent location, especially considering the price. A couple blocks to the main plaza; across the street from an excellent restaurant, The Chaya Maya; a couple blocks from a laundry; and a couple more on that street to an office that does antigen tests with results emailed to you in 15 minutes (PruebasRápidasMx, Calle 64 near Calle 49). Hotel staff was pleasant and helpful. The pool was great for a quick cool down.

I wish the room (#6) had thick "blackout" blinds - there was a lot of light in the night.

Very clean and centrally located to the central plaza. The pool is although small seemed well kept and definitely a great mid day break. The rooms were sparkling clean and the bed was comfy. The room was cleaned in the late afternoons and left impeccable. The court yard is lovely.

The parking lot was three blocks away. Not convenient but you can make do and the employees were very responsive. Breakfast would have been good but the restaurant has been closed for a while (covid related possibly). If you drive here which we did, keep in mind that traffic is heavy in the evenings. Any Mexican city driving is stressful but especially at night.

The architecture of the hotel is VERY special. It reminds you of a Mexican Hacienda. The decoration and layout is very traditional Mexican. The rooms are very spacious and clean. It's quite elegant, considering the price. The pool was clean and no one was using it when we went in so we had lots of fun.

The staff is not the friendliest, compared to other hotels in Mexico. The parking situation is a mess. You have to walk about 5-8 minutes to the hotel to ask to open the parking garage for you and walk back. We came home late at night and the receptionist had promised us she would be waiting for us at the parking garage at 10pm sharp. When we arrived, we realized she had left home. This was poor customer service.

i don’t understand why when i go directly to the reception without having make a reservation and you ask: if i book now directly with you, without paying commission etc, is it going to be cheaper?? and the guy says of course!! and he tels you double price from the one you are looking the same time online!! and then of course you book online in front of him… Thats just unbelievable…
