Hotel Casamara

We only went for the Perahara and thanks to our visit in April in person to arrange a room we were given a third floor room which provided a grandstand view from the balcony. The food was good and the restaurant staff were very attentive but all staff were most helpful.

On the first nights a la carte menu I found the chicken a shade underdone. Then on the following night buffet the very nice beef dish had pieces of beef tough enough for shoe leather but not for eating. The quaint old fashioned lift is very nice but most annoying when people leave the concertina gates open and it won't work. Three floors up with a child in a wheelchair is no joke.

Situated in the heart of Kandy city, Casamara hotel is a short distance from The Sri Dalada Maligawa or The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Kandy Lake also known as Bogambara Lake as well as Udawattakele Sanctuary. I had three breakfasts. First morning it was the English breakfast, second morning the traditional Sri Lankan breakfast Indiappa (String hoppers), third morning buffet and I had Kiribath (Milk Rice) with chilli and onion sambal, called Lunu Miris. The idea of fragrant curries for breakfast may take a couple of days to warm up to, but once you embrace it, you may find it tricky going back to jam on toast.

The room we stayed in was very comfortable and had all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. We particularly enjoyed spending time at the rooftop bar, which had a great view of the city and a lovely bartender. The breakfast provided by the hotel was decent and gave us a good start to the day. The best part was that the hotel was affordable and located right in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of Kandy, which made it easy to explore the city on foot.

However, the hotel has seen its heydays and is now a little bit rundown. While it's still a good option for travelers, those looking for a more luxurious stay may want to look elsewhere. In summary, Hotel Casamara is a great option for those looking for an affordable stay in the heart of Kandy. The comfortable rooms, lovely rooftop bar, and decent breakfast make it a good value for money. However, be aware that the hotel is a bit outdated and may not be the best option for those seeking a more luxurious stay.

We arrived earlier than expected check in time and the hotel was great to accomodate us. I pool was lovely and cool, with plenty of privacy, the staff very helpful. Unfortunately I was feeling a little under the weather so my room was amazing to recuperate, bed comfortable and the staff / manger was concerned for my wellbeing and asked if there was anything they could do, medicine or send for a doctor - loved that! I had the best bed rest, ready to explore the town the next day. Everything is super close, great location. Will definitely return. Even the Kandy locals were super helpful.

Love the large pool, the location and the good sized, comfortable room. I often stay here when in Kandy. The staff are super helpful too, and there is a great cafe next door at the end of an alley.

The building site right up against the pool area has been there for years and spoils the ambience. The rooftop bar is a bit tired and dark, needs opening up so there is more outdoor space. The food is a bit disappointing.

Great location, very central to pubs and city cental. Staff appeared attentive but not always delivered. Think the people in charge could give more guidance to staff as they are very willing to help. Breakfast plentiful, room nice. Overall good experience.

Many staff around, but they were not sure what to do. We asked for a replacement toilet paper as there was not a backup in the room. It took a meeting before it was delivered. (After asking once again)

Location was excellent for what we wanted. Central Kandy . Love the old colonial style and the service. The pool was clean and functional. Sitting on the balcony gave you the feel of Kandy whilst removed from the hustle and bustle.

The room was gleaming - but the smell of polish was a little overpowering!.

Location is 10/10! Right on the Main Street lots of action. Balcony was great for people watching. Walking distance to everything in Kandy. Restaurants galore. Close to shopping mall. Staff is super friendly. Pool was great. Breakfast was really nice too, served in the restaurant below. Rooms are spacious decorated authentic. Very clean. Rooftop bar and food was such a nice addition !! One of our best stays in Sri Lanka. Enjoy Kandy!

This hotel is very close to the Temple and the lake and right in Kandy. All the double rooms were very clean and we had a nice balcony room. The reception staff and breakfast staff were excellent. Very helpful and friendly. The top floor bar was excellent, air conditioned and two balconies. Breakfast was buffet style with some traditional Sri Lankan food.

Nothing it met our expectations.

Amazing location for one night as the temple is literally 3 minutes walking away. The staff was really helpful and kind. The room was spacious and everything worked. Take your earplugs for the street noise.

The bathroom has a cleaning and smelling issue, but I am sure this can be fixed in no time. For this value I would expect a real duvet blanket not just a the sheet as it can get chilly at night.
