Best Western Plus Åby Hotel

Stayed 4 nights at this hotel for concerts at Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg. Emailed the hotel and they sent directions to reach by public transport. Staff were friendly and helpful. There is a nice gym and indoor racquet sports facilities at the hotel, a billiards table and you can see the horses at the track next door. Basic drinks and snacks are available at reception. Breakfast was included and very good. Our room on the 6th floor was small but comfortable and bright, nice view, good shower and good quality toiletries. There was a kettle for tea-coffee and a large ironing board and iron and a safe. It was very hot and the airconditioning worked well.

You have to take a bus from the airport to Gothenburg, then a train to Mondal and then a bus to the hotel. We used the 72 hours Gothenburg Vastrafik pass which includes Mondal. There are 2 bus stops near the hotel at about 5 minutes walking distance and buses come every 15-20 minutes. Strangely the hotel does not have its name written anywhere - it just says 'Hotel' on the front. No fridge in the room. Ridiculously expensive room rate, probably because of the concerts.

Service was great! Included breakfast was good. It was nice to be able to play pool in th lobby. Overall, it was quiet and peacful if you want to stay away from the center of activities yet be close by when you want to. There is a horse race arena next doors. I am guessing the hotel would be quite crowded when there are events at the arena.

Got one of those rooms that have a connecting door to the next room through the common wall. Was a first time for us and we didn't quite know where that door would lead. Opened it cautiously to thankfully only find an unoccupied room which felt sppoky becuase there were no lights on. Of course we could lock our side of the door, but it was an uneasy feeling sleeping with another entrance to our room... I guess if only the staff would have mentioned this when we checked in it wouldn't have made us feel that that way.

We stayed for 3 nights as a couple and we enjoyed our stay. The room was nice and clean and the hotel was quiet. The breakfast was good. It was good value for money, even despite the fact that prices for hotels were quite high that weekend because of the Metallica concerts at Ullevi (which was also the reason we went to Gothenburg).

You cannot open the window so the air conditioning had to be on at all times (I got a nasty cold because of this after I got home).

The breakfast choices were outstanding and the quality of the food, superb!

I had a windowless room, so when I walked into my room for the first time, it was pitch dark. There were no light switches I could use to turn on the lights, and I figured I'd had to use my room access card to 'power' the lights. But from where? No-one at Reception had advised me how to do this! So I switched on my iPhone Torch App and found where to place the card. This I did and the lights came on.

Good, stylish room with a very nice (and big) breakfast. Attention to smaller details, like nice towels etc.. Also, good view from the room that I had.

The overall tivoli/amusement park theme of the hotel may (or may not) be to one's own personal preference. The hotel is situated in a larger building complex close to a horse racing track which, again, (and depending on the purpose of travel) may (or may not be) to one's own liking.

Location isn't too bad. It's great if you're there for the horses as the hotel is in the stadium. It's a decent 20 minute walk from Mölndal Station. Reception staff were very nice and check in took less than 5 minutes. Room was really nice and good size for a lone traveler. The decor is amazing. Loved it. The bathroom is really nice and has a fantastic shower. Good sized TV in the room at the end of the bed on the wall. English and Swedish channels. View from the room is great. Had to go to the 14th floor to have a good look higher up. Breakfast is good! Pancakes and Nutella will always rate highly. Good range of hot food - sausages, meatballs, scrambled egg and bacon aswell as cold meets, fruit and yoghurt. Usual tea and coffee and on tap orange, apple, grapefruit and water. Really happy with the stay.

No one to meet you at breakfast. You're kinda just stood waiting until someone sees you. Happens once and the next time you know to just go through. That's all.

Really nice rooms and a nice theme to the hotel, bar area was great, nice decor, always cleaned really well and they left a cute horse teddy in the room. Away from the centre but near bus stops so really easy to get into the city. Breakfast was really nice, it got very busy but there were signs around the hotel saying when is the busiest/quietest times for breakfast which was helpful

My room on 9th floor (920) was a good size with a small desk, a coffee table and two lounge chairs. Just be careful when you book as some rooms do not have windows! (but these are clearly marked as such). I needed to be at AstraZeneca for work so a 25 min walk was a perfect way to start and end my workday. A very good buffet style breakfast with plenty of choice starting at 6am. Public transport to the city (7km) is limited. A 20 min walk will bring you to a new and modern shopping area with several good restaurant choices. From there, trams leave often to the city centre (15min) If you are sport minded, there are 21 (twenty-one) padel courts in the same building complexe. It is also adjacent to a horse racing track.

It was impossible to find seating in the very large breakfast area where you DID NOT have a large TV screen directly in view. I personally do like not to be distracted by TV talk shows etc during my meals but evidently many people will not find this negative.

The room was well decorated (inspired by Tivoli, in Copenhagen) and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom is quite big and feels luxurious. They offered a bag with treats for our dog and provided a blanket and a water bowl. The staff was friendly and very quick to respond through Booking.

Our least favorite part was the breakfast, which did not have much diversity in the items being offered.

Breakfast, was great, extensive choice for all appetites. ALL the staff were brilliant, and could not be more helpful which makes the long stay away form home a lot more comfortable..

The tea/coffee cups in thh rooms cold do with handles. When making a hot drink, it is very difficult to hold the cup becasue it is so hot.
