The Argent Motel

Very easy to get to. Free parking right outside the door. There was just a box with the keys in it and to get the key we simply had to enter our mobile number and voila! Very quick and easy. The shower is AMAZING! The A/C was already switched on, which was a nice touch. Comfy beds and pretty quiet, even though the motel is right in the middle of town. There is a microwave. All motels need this feature!

The bench was a bit sticky. Not terrible, though. We washed all of the dishes with the supplied shampoo before we used them, but maybe that's just us...! :-)

I liked the location of this hotel. It was central to the main street, and everything we needed for our one night stay. The free parking was a bonus. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. When I had trouble getting the key from the lockbox, I rang the number and the receptionist helped me through it, but that was the only contact I had with anyone. She was very nice and helpful.

I like reception face to face contact, and this was a key in a lockbox at 2pm. No option to see if the room is ready just a little earlier, like with some places and no face to face contact. I understand the reasoning behind this because a lot of places do it now, but I don't like it.

Very attractively placed room, convenient to station, tourist information, Hertz Car Haire, shops and even several tourist destinations. Car parking on site. I didn't hear any noises from road at night. Comfortable bed. I talked with some of the friendly cleaning staff. Telstra reception good, so able to use a mobile hotspot to provide a good solid internet connection. Fridge, dining plates, cultery provided for room. The bottled cold water supplied daily in fridge was appreciated when arrived after a long journey. Parking on site. Good communication by booking staff about requests. Able to remain in the same room when decided to stay another night in Broken Hill. Daily cleaning if wanted, and otherwise everythign else, including all meals, self service. I used Broken Hill to visit a number of places and although I had other choices, used Argent Hotel on several occasions by preference.

To get room key a 24 hour a check in machine where you enter the phone number used in booking, to release the room key is used, unlike on the booking.com website where required to check in at specific times. So no concierge on site to receive makes it harder to report a problem. Wifi was not what I would have called high speed, often annoying slow, and not always available everywhere in the room. To compare with other free wifi services I experienced offered in the Broken Hill and far west NSW, I found this wifi to be good in that it could be used to browse web sites, and read email.

The Argent is probably the best value for money stay I've had for a long time; I wasn't expecting much because of the price, but I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms are quite spacious (enough for a bed and two pretty comfy armchairs!) and everything was clean and nicely presented. The hotel has obviously been around for a while, but the rooms have had a few licks of paint over the years and I actually found the rooms had a lot of character as a result. Anyone who shuns or disdains human interaction will like it here as well - there's no reception to speak of; to check in, you enter your phone number into a safe and receive your room key automatically. Of course, I'm sure the staff would be available if needed, but I didn't need anything during my very comfortable and enjoyable stay here.

I had no problems at all here - I would stay here again no question at all; the Argent represents great value for money.

Very convenient location. Comfortable bed and good hot shower. Quiet air conditioning kept the room at a reasonable temperature while sleeping. Tariff very acceptable and wi-fi exceptional

One light in the main area did not function though we were able to read due to wall lights. No face to face contact at the time of check in. The only staff we saw involved a brief interaction with the cleaning staff who were pleasant.

Whilst Room 7B is not quite as workable as my previous Room 3, being at the join of the two wings, it was equally shiny clean, well appointed and with heaps of bottled water tea and coffee making materials - complementary sugar and real milk included - and equipment.

A previous occupant of my room had pulled the cleassic Aussie joke on me, and had turmed the fridge all the way up, so my water bottles were frozen, and had set the alarm to 03:00 in the morning. As I may have done the same to some unfortunate successors to my rooms about 50 or so years ago, action I have learned not to do, I didn’t let it spoil my day, microwaved the water bottles and checked - and reset - the alarm. Perhaps the “joke” is so rarely perpetrated these days that staff no longer routinely check both those things after cleaning the room, as they used to. And perhaps checking for both needs to go on the job description checklist again…

Simple basic accomodation in the heart of Broken Hill. Facilities have been refurbished and this is the second time we have returned. So that says a lot. Don't expect the standards of other famous names that cost 4x more, but it's clean, has a TV, great shower and comfortable beds. Great for those one nighters.

Only that the furnishings are showing their age but that is to be expected of a property of this vintage. Regardless, it is still great value for money.

The rooms were very comfortable, with everything one could want supplied with Bedside table, bedside lamp, lots of power points, TV, shower get and hair shampoo and conditioner. Cold water in the fridge, the air conditioner on, so the room was cool, tea, coffee, milk, sugar and biscuits. The bed was comfortable and big enough for 6’5” me…but the best bit was the shower. Nothing cramped or awkward here, spacious and with plenty of hot water to boot! As for cleanliness, that word “clean” doesn’t do it justice the whole place was sparklearkling clean - the taps were so polished, they glowed in the dark! The best property I’ve stayed in
