Quality Inn Waddling Dog

We loved everything! There's a pub and a liquor store here! Everything was clean and comfortable it's an adorable place! It's close to The Butchart Gardens and Butterfly Gardens which were our favorites. I loved that it's outside the bustling city but still close enough to drive in every day. Nothing we wanted to do was more than 25 min away.

One house keeper was very rude when I asked for sheets and towels one of our 4 days. I had spilled coffee and needed them. The front desk was very cool about it and that was the only negative thing that happened.

This was a great “middle” hotel option between the Ferry @ Swartz Bay and Downton Victoria. Quick access to Butchart Gardens, Kayaking and local eateries. Simple to hop on the freeway and head to Victoria (about 20 minutes). Room was updated with modern amenities. I loved the blend of styles between the history of “The Waddling Dog” and modern comfort! A modern-cottage feel!

I didn’t like the location being near to a run-down trailer park. But the inside of the hotel felt safe and homey.

When we arrived after midnight, we were greeted by Ceara who was very welcoming and offered us a bottle of water (after having been on planes all day, this was most welcomed). She was friendly and offered any assistamce we might need. Just a very welcome welcome after a long day. When we stayed at another facility, we said we wished there had been accommodation available at the Waddling as we would have returned. The room was very comfortable, quiet and we would have enjoyed returning.

It was a very pretty hotel very clean nice staff. A little pricey but most Hotels are. The benefit to this place was the substantial breakfast included. Which made the price quite a bit better. The staff in the breakfast room were exceptional.

We went for dinner in the Pub and during our meal they started to play a pub game which was way to loud and started to early. It started around 7 pm. I couldn’t wait to get out of there. The waitress had trouble hearing her orders from customers. Very unpleasant.

The staff here were very friendly and helpful. The room is comfortable and even though it is not the most modern looking hotel it felt cozy and warm and friendly. I had to make a booking change and they were very accommodating and helpful. The breakfast room is very nice and the selections at breakfast were varied and good quality.

I really my only issue was with the height of the bathroom counter. At 5'2, the counter felt like it was built for people 6 ft tall and higher. It was awkward. It would be nice to have a kettle and tea bags in the room as well rather than just coffee.

Very quaint, loved the decor and the theme of the waddling dog everywhere (basset hound). Added bonus was the pub at the property; meal was good and was entertaining to watch the clientele as it is obviously a neighourhood pub with lots of regulars. Bed, linens, pillows comfy and an old metal tub that kept my bath water hot :) The breakfast room attendant was wonderful: friendly and attentive. Breakfast was good and parking was plentiful.

It would have been lovely if it was cheaper, but it was still good value.

The breakfast was filling but very high on processed food. Would like to have been more fresh options. In saying that though the place was very clean and the staff were great and very willing to talk about the history of the island.

Being advised that children weren't allowed in the bar for meals. If we had of known this we would have booked a table rather than waiting in the small family dining area for a free table

The staff were very friendly and the inn has a great look and feel. They did a good job preserving the history of the building. Breakfast was included (continental as well as sausages and eggs after a certain time). It's about a half an hour cab ride to downtown Victoria and a little over 10 minutes away from the Victoria airport. You'll need to take cabs or use a rental car to get around to the attractions in the area, but it is less expensive than many hotels in the downtown area.

Pub closes at 10 p.m. so you won't be able to grab any late night drinks before bed. But there is a liquor store on the property.

We were greeted immediately upon approaching the desk by friendly staff. The room was spacious and clean, and the bed was comfortable. As the breakfast room was still closed due to covid, the hotel still provided hot breakfast sandwich options, along with juice, muffins and yogurt. This was our second time staying here, and both times we had a great experience.

Only a couple of minor things could be changed. One thing was the pillows were much too soft, and a choice of a firmer pillow would have been nice. The other was the size of the towels. They will wrap around you if you are a very small person, however just don't quite wrap around the average woman.

location near airport was helpful, breakfast was disappointing but understandable due to covid precautions, library was lovely similar to my studies in Oxford England. we would have loved to have a swimming pool nearby

breakfast, it was lovely to be in the library but the food wasn't like an English breakfast. We don't like pubs as we don't drink alcohol so we didn't go there. perhaps the food is better there but we don't like that ambience
