Alt Hotel Ottawa

The location was excellent! The staff was very friendly and helpful. They helped me out with 3 different requests in 24 hours (required 3 visits to my room). Their attitude was always very positive. The room's design is very modern and it is quite spacious. The wifi connection was reliable. The coffee machine was great! The washroom was very clean and spacious. The elevators, lobby and other common areas are very clean and with lots of comfortable seating.

One major design flaw (in my opinion) is that the washroom light goes through the glass portion of the washroom wall and shines through to the bedroom. I realize this is meant to be trendy/stylish, but since I wanted to leave the washroom light on at night for my young child, the washroom light ended up making the entire room bright. (One of the glass shower walls is connected to the bedroom, so any light from the washroom makes the entire bedroom bright). My concern here does not apply if you don't need to leave the washroom light on at night for kids.

Bright large room with comfortable bed. Central location in walking distance to most attractions.

Bathroom floor quite dusty on arrival and there was a. Piece of fluff in the sink. Towels being changed daily when specifically left hung up and on last day bath mat and hand towels where removed but not replaced even when requested at reception on my way out in the evening. Goat cafe didn’t always have items on their breakfast menu available. A damage deposit of $50/night taken on checkin that takes up to 5 days to be refunded after checkout. Only discovered this when I realised the amount was higher than my confirmation notification and queried the amount taken the next morning.

It was one of the most quiet hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The concrete walls, floors and ceilings made it nearly impossible to hear your neighbours. And, since there was a music festival happening I was expecting all kinds of noise but I didn’t hear anyone. It sometimes felt as though I was the only person in a fully booked hotel.

The bathroom was not clean. And I was told that it had been inspected. I couldn’t get another room as they were booked from the music festival. I asked and was granted an immediate re-cleaning, after which everything was fine. There is also no room service and the bar downstairs has a very limited selection of food. The location is central downtown with a short walk to transit, the capital buildings etc… but at night, as a single woman, walking through the city core was a little nerve wracking. Ottawa is a safe city but with hardly anyone around, I found it a bit scary.

The hotel is in a very central location, and a quick walk minutes away from Parliament Hill. The room was large in comparison to other hotel rooms and very clean and comfortable. Parking is across the street in a paid garage or on the street which is free on the weekends. Front desk reception friendly and efficient. The hotel has a groovy lobby with a cafe and bar. Felt very safe here even coming back late after attending a wedding.

Everything was fine and there was not anything I did not like.

I found the Alt Hotel very cool and stylish. The staff was welcoming and seemed to enjoy working there. When I requested a fridge and a kettle for my room, both were delivered almost immediately. Two of my friends in Ottawa came to meet me at the hotel and were impressed enough with the design of it that they, too, will recommend it to others.

The parking across the street was convenient but expensive. Perhaps the hotel could have a bit of a deal with the parking company to decrease the cost a little?

The location is perfect, downtown but not noisy, close to all attractions and nice places to eat.

Competitive price but still high in my view, given that it does not include parking nor breakfast. Parking is available across the street but it can be expensive during weekdays (22$) but ok for weekends (6$).

Great location that was walking distance to everything. Also, the overall aesthetics of the room and the hotel were well done.

There weren’t enough outlets in the room. There was only a plug on one side of the bed, which made it hard to charge your phone if you were sleeping on the opposite side and set an alarm without disturbing the other person. Also, there weren’t enough lamps in the room. Your only options for lighting at night were super bright lights with every light on in the room or very dark, dim lighting with a tiny bedside lamp on.

central location, very clean. The front staff was very helpful as were all staff that we interacted with. We could walk most everywhere we wanted to go.

not sure if I would say I don’t like, maybe just odd. the ceiling in our room was unfinished ( if that’s the way it is meant to be, so be it), not a complaint just found it strange. I was upset that there was no regular coffee available in the cafe. I’m not a fan of the grossly overpriced Starbucks type offerings. No bagels at all, and the couple in front of me was looking for something for the vegetarian breakfast but something was missing from that. When you miss the simple offerings that people want, you colour that persons opinion. The hotel, I found has a good room rate but the high cost of drinks at the bar and the beer offerings somewhat lacking.

No parking for a 4 night stay was very pricey.

The lounge was nice, breakfast not good. It was really quiet which we really appreciate. Staff are very welcoming and approachable. There 7s a friendly low ke6 vibe we also like.

Parking was an issue and we had difficulty getting a clear recommendation or instructions on parking, especially overnight parkimg.The closest parking lot charged a full day fee every time you left after 2 hours.
