Hôtel Le Donjon - Cœur de La Cité Médiévale

The hotel is situated right in the centre of the medieval city. It is traditional and charming in decor. I particularly enjoyed the garden, where we had some local wine every evening before going out for dinner. It is a tranquil area, quiet amongst the hustle of the narrow streets in the city. The receptionists were always so helpful and polite and gave us good recommendations for restaurants and transport for excursions. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty and the staff quick to assist and replenish the buffet. A lovely, charming stay!

One very minor detail in our room. There was no socket beside the beds to charge a phone. Only a minor inconvenience and more to do with my phone's poor battery!

This is my second visit to this wonderful hotel. This time I brought my husband, mother and her partner and they absolutely loved the hotel and Carcassonne. They are all planning on returning. The location is excellent, the bed was very comfortable, the breakfast was good and the staff were incredibly helpful. The two gentlemen who drove us to and from the hotel to the car park were exceptionally helpful, especially the gentleman who gave us a little historical background through the Cite on our arrival. Please pass on our gratitude, he made the start of our trip very memorable. The hotel kindly accommodated our need to be collected from the car park and driven to the hotel as we had 2 elderly disabled guests and 1 with limited mobility. This service, the lovely staff and its fabulous location are why we will keep choosing this property when visiting Carcassonne. Thank you for an incredible stay and we will return.

Everything was wonderful.

Smack dad in the center of the medieval city, next to the entrance to the castle, a must see. Also must see the light show in the ramparts. Extremely attentive staff, rooms well equipped, we were offered an upgrade in the garden area, very nice and quiet... fridge with water every day, toiletries, very comfortable bed and sofa bed, coffee and tea machines and complimentary cookies. Breakfast is outstanding. You can refill water bottle at the breakfast buffet. Upon arrival, they can hold your luggage until the room is ready. Hotel is high end and feels very safe.

First & foremost we found the staff friendly & helpful. An example would be Lolie who greeted & served guests in breakfast room. She was so warm & welcoming. At times the breakfast room was full of guests but she always had the buffet well stocked & provided good service to everyone & always with a smile. We enjoyed our breakfasts very much. The beautiful garden was lovely to have coffee &/or our breakfast in as well as just for relaxation at other times. The room was very quiet & clean with an extremely comfortable bed. The hotel was well situated being right in the Cite

My sister & I are both advancing in age & have mobility issues. We both felt the high bathtub to be unsafe for us. The glass partition was not stationary & there we no grab bars in the tub or toilet areas.

The air conditioning in the room was extremely effective in what were 3 days of extreme hot weather. The location of the hotel was perfect . I would recommend the parking on site with your luggage taken to your room as the walk to the hotel, whilst not lengthy, is over terrain that makes dragging suitcases very tiring. Jerome was a very pleasant member of staff who made us feel very welcome on arrival. Evening staff / Reception were very accommodating.

Towels in the bathroom are quite small. Curtains in the room were difficult to close.

Location is great, in the heart of medieval city, private parking outside the wall - well organised and easy to find. Excellent contact with the hotel before arrival. The hotel has a lovely courtyard, it would be awesome if breakfast would be there.

Although the room was clean the shower wasn’t, there was even someone’s shaving razor left behind right on the fittings. We booked a family room with double bed and two single beds, one of which was a rolling bed. Not a biggie because we spent there one night only but a bit misleading in terms of comfort. Breakfast was so-so (cold overcooked boiled egg spoiled my experience).

We paid for the supérieur double room and were so happy with the location! Amazing views from both windows! It was suggested we add breakfast for 15e and we were glad we did! Great selection and wonderful staff. The courtyard is delightful, even in the rain…

Room could have been cleaner ( hair in the bathtub) and better supplied (tissue box was empty, no coffee in tray). Staff when we checked in was lovely, from the navette driver to desk staff. At checkout desk staff was surly and navette driver drove at unsafe speeds. Also he was derisive about the tip, stating “presque assez pour un café” to a ten e tip.

The hotel is hosted inside one of the historical houses of Carcassone, at the very center of the medieval city, two minutes walking from the castle. The decoration inside is very charming and personnel was much helpful. It has a very nice garden at the back and a library with some interesting old books. Everybody speaks Spanish. We were hosted in a separate building with direct door to the garden, like a private apartment. Very comfortable, with chairs and tables in the garden, but next time we will try the main building. Maybe more historic. WIFI and bathroom were all right. Private cars are banned inside the Citè. You can park at a nearby parking slot reserved for hotel customers. It is only 5 min walking from the hotel but if you carry luggage, better to accept the free ride they offer.

Even if the hotel is very good value, given its location, parking is a bit expensive, taking into account there are not many alternatives.

The hotel location is just amazing set right inside the castle walls, it's just surreal. From the short transfer to the hotel in the mini car from the hotels central parking area, squeezing through the ancient narrow lanes, to the hotel itself and the history it exudes. Just magical. Loved it and can't wait to return for longer. Very welcoming front of house staff who tried desperately to help us with a taxi from the station.

Nothing to do with the hotel but taxis in Carcassonne seem to be in short supply. Book well in advance!!

Great location in the heart of the 'Cite Medievale' so a great option if you want to stay in this area. The room was nice, but as you are in a protected area do not expect a super spacious and modern hotel, you will be staying there for the atmosphere and the location. Staff was very friendly (pick up of the luggage from the parking lot to the hotel), 5mn walk. Check in was very friendly and breakfast was good (buffet with lots of options)

Room is lacking few essentials you would expect from a hotel of this standard. No toiletries or extras, just shampoo and shower gel. Room a bit smaller than expected for a family of 3.
