Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur

A wonderful situation by the river Loire & worth upgrading to a river view room. A ten minute stroll across the bridge & you were in the main square with all the restaurants & shops . The bedroom was large & comfortable , the bathroom was well equipped & good quality hand & shower wash (no body lotion unfortunately). the breakfast was good & many choices. Lots of free parking spaces .

2 negatives . Noisy air con in the bedroom (we have been travelling for a few days so we noticed the difference . There was obviously a waterproof protector under the bottom sheet , this made you perspire & needs another mattress protector (not waterproof ) on top .

Superb location with bar and terrace overlooking the Loire with beautiful views of the château and Saumur skyline, especially stunning as the sun goes down. It’s only about ten minutes stroll into town over the bridge where there are lots of restaurants, shops and bars and there are a couple of restaurants within five minutes’ walk behind the hotel too. Staff are very friendly and helpful and breakfast is generous and served overlooking the Loire. Secure underground parking is a real bonus. We were delighted not to have stayed in town as the view from the other bank cannot compare. Loved it and look forward to returning… thank you!

Location is ideal. Across the river from the Chateau and town with views up and down the valley. Easy within walking distance into town. Parking at the front of the hotel is limited but there is a hotel carpark 25 meters away so no problem and free. Hotel is superb inside, decor is amazing with painted horse murals on the walls and sculptures in reception. Very modern, clean and well presented. Room was light and clean and we booked a river view so well worth the extra cost. One of the best breakfast selections I've had and plenty of it.. We will come back.

Aircon was turned down only so far and with the hot weather it made it a bit uncomfortable. Temperature is not controllable from the room.

This was excellent accommodation for us - great service, lovely room overlooking the river, great location, free secure and easy parking, and wonderful breakfast choice. Above all the staff were fantastic - we would particularly like to thank Samuel for his help and attention to detail, his recommendations for places to eat for evening meal etc and places to visit. The bar is great for an early evening drink, before going out to eat. We would certainly stay here again. The breakfast was the best we had the whole time in France and we stayed at 8 different places.

unfortunately this time the cleanliness of the bedroom was a bit poor. behind the bed had not been cleaned, it seemed for a while. as bed wax away from the wall when we arrived, we could see the dust and bits on the carpet. there were no bathroom accessories, shampoo, soap etc. we stay in mercure across France and we were disappointed not to have these items in the bathroom. also there should be proper cups for coffee and not plastic cups, for coffee etc. As you pay premium prices for the room this should be there.

Amazing view across the Loire to the Chāteau de Saumur and city centre. Pay the extra for a river view room. Very quiet location with easy hotel parking. BTW the noise you can hear from the riverbank is... frogs (kept us puzzled for a couple of days).

One minor niggle - the hotel should provide proper-sized mugs in the rooms for the tea/coffee maker. The paper ones provided are (a) too small and (b) start to fall apart if you use them more than once. Having said that, the hotel was happy for us to borrow a couple from the breakfast room during our stay.

Excellent I picked the hotel for its location. I already knew both the town and the hotel as I had lived nearby and was on a return trip. It is easy walking distance to the town, near to plenty of restaurants and events. Its set in a beautiful place along the riverside. I did not reply to your bonus question about a quiet room - because I did not make a special request, had I done I would have asked for a river view.

Great location on the river, great views of the river and town we had a room with a river view which was excellent. Very comfortable bed and room, free parking!! will definatly return soon, great hotel.

Paper cups in the room. No glasses or proper cups.This seems odd for a 4 star hotel. It's shame there isn't a restaurant at the hotel, only for breakfast

What a wonderful view - the river right in front with the Chateau on the opposite made for a stunning location - day or night. We loved just sitting an admiring the setting. The location also makes for a tranquil stay - the hotel is on a quiet residential street. Parking is easy and free and breakfast was generous and varied. We had spotted the hotel several years earlier on a trip to the Chateau, so we had high expectations, we were not disappointed :)

The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We had a comfortable room at the back of the hotel as we had asked for a quiet room. Next time we go, we will ask for one at the front overlooking the stunning Loire river. The breakfast has many choices of food, both hot & cold. We ate ours outside on the terrace so we could watch the hot air balloons and parachute jumping very close by. Whenever we had a drink from the bar, we sat outside on the terrace, it has such an amazing view of the Chateaux and river. The Hotel is situated across the bridge from the main part of Saumur, but it was only a short very pleasant walk to the cafes and shops.
