Hotel Hermes

Totally thrilled with my one night stay at Hermes Hotel, staff so friendly (and spoke perfect English) hotel is well placed for charming Syros town, as well as the port & ferries, both in easy walking distance in 10 minutes. The hotel was super clean and quiet, and my gorgeous big, cool, room had a wonderful sea view balcony, and views of the garden. The bed was massive, and had super quality bed linen, so comfortable. Inside the hotel is a charming mix of exposed stone and some indoor trees, 2 storeys high! Breakfast was VERY good, both hot and cold. I live on Tinos now, just arrived 3 weeks ago, but I am sure I will be visiting Syros again quite often and will definitely try to stay at the Hermes.

Firstly the location is the best! The harbour view from the breakfast table is fabulous and swimming from the little beach at the back, amazing. Just enough sun loungers for guests to enjoy time in the day there too. Our bedroom and bathroom was very spacious and nicely decorated and the whole hotel looks and feels elegant.

Most balconies are small and open giving no privacy at all. We didn't pay for a sea view so we're given a balcony overlooking an ugly side building and litter strewn alley. We never used it!

We stayed five nights at the Hotel Hermes and it was an excellent choice and very good value: a beautiful hotel in a neoclassical building on the harbour side with commanding views of the town and harbour. Inside the hotel, the furnishings and rooms are tastefully decorated. The hotel also has a lovely garden and small private beach area. We enjoyed the extensive buffet breakfast and the opportunity to sit outside at the front of the hotel, watching as the boats came and went into the harbour. Also, a thank you to the staff who cleaned our room everyday, and to the other staff in the hotel who were so helpful. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Hotel Hermes to other visitors to Syros.

The hotel was a great choice and had everything that we wanted to make our first visit to Syros an enjoyable stay.

The hotel is in a great location with easy access to the shops and restaurants of Ermoupoli. Even though it’s in a central location, the rooms are quiet and there’s no noise from the street outside. The staff are friendly and the rooms are kept very clean, well done to the housekeeping!

There absolutely should have been a coffee/tea maker in the room. It’s a nuisance to have to dress first thing in the morning and go down to the breakfast room to get a cup of coffee (which are small cups and contain just a few sips). The wifi worked well but if you expect to be able to watch tv in your room, think again as the provided screens are the size of a postage stamp! Also, the promised sea view was a small glimpse through the side of the balcony and not what I was expecting.

Good location and spacious public areas. My room was small but comfortable. It was quiet, and had a nice view from the balcony.The bathroom was well designed, with an effective shower screen so the bathroom floor stayed dry. I really appreciated the honesty of the bar staff who found some coins that had accidentally fallen from my pocket and which they returned to me the next day. Bravo!

The fridge didn’t work. I wasn’t there long enough for the hotel to replace it.My evening meal in the restaurant wasn’t very good.

The location for a short stay in Syros was excellent. We walked from the ferry and saw the hotel from the harbour. We arrived quite late but the restaurant was still open and we did not have to go out to look for a place for dinner. From the hotel there is easy access to attractions like the Apollon theatre and the main square. There are numerous restaurants and cafés in a walking distance. The breakfast buffet had a variety of selections and really helpful and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend this location for a short stay.

The location was excellent, the room although quite ordinary, had the most gorgeous views from the outside balcony. We could hear the sea, which was an added bonus. Breakfast was acceptable. The hotel patio areas were lovely overlooking the sea on the one side and the town on the other.

Great location! While the shopping, restaurant & bar areas of Ermoupolis are readily accessible from the hotel's front doors, there was still a sense of the hotel being located in its own quiet & private zone of the waterfront. This was articularly so at the back of the hotel, where there was the constant coming & going of small groups of seasoned swimmers, who were quietly entering the water from the pier wall. There was a surprisingly generous amount of recreational space for guests to sit out, to sunbathe or to eat or drink; contributing to an overall very relaxed feeling about the place. The staff were very friendly & genuinely helpful. There was a great selection of food provided at the breakfast buffet.

The decor & furnishings were a bit on the neutral side, giving a slightly dull first impression of the public areas & indeed, of the bedrooms. I would also like to suggest that you consider highlighting the threshold of the doorway, between the inside & the rear balcony dining areas, to avoid a trip hazard.

The Hotel Hermes is a superb example of a grand old hotel that has kept up with the times. It has been beautifully renovated, has comfortable public rooms to lounge in, gardens to walk in, the sea to swim in, and nothing in Syros can beat its restaurant terrace overlooking the sea in both quality of food and the view. The staff are amazing. The rooms were outstanding with views over the ocean, large bathrooms and excellent beds. The hotel is such a lovely place to just relax in that it was hard to convince some of my older companions to leave the hotel and explore the town.

It was perfect in every way.
