Aquatio Cave Luxury Hotel & SPA

Matera is a gem and this hotel is very special and lovely in every respect! I really enjoyed my time there! The old cave/rock oriented part of Matera is the best place to stay and what makes the town unique, historically valuable, and so interesting. This hotel is located right in that part of the town and just steps away from important and interesting historical sites, view sites, restaurants, walking areas etc. This hotel is built out of the unique cave geography of this part of the town. Literally, as the photos indicate, the rooms and common spaces exist within meticulously designed cave and water cistern systems that were historically common in this area. A unique treat to just be there! With that said, my room was totally modern and totally comfortable in every way. Great amenities. The service was fantastic. Really great staff who provided lovely recommendations for site seeing, restaurants, navigating the town etc. Highly recommend and I would stay there again without a doubt!

Location, cleanliness and style were perfect as is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Dinner and wine were fantastic

Before arrival bureaucracy took over. You receive several emails for pre-authorization payment and bank authorization. Then web check in with loading ID into the form, a health declaration form and another one to reserve spa. It’s real work and time consuming. I already wanted to cancel my stay. I phoned to just communicate my credit card but they said they were not allowed to take it by phone. Breakfast is slow because of Corona regulations only 1 table at a time is allowed to access the buffet. I had to wait 20minutes. That could be solved differently with a list where you tick of what you want.

Staff made it a very pleasant stay, Beautiful, Clean and cool. Immersive experience of cave life! Very close to where the action is, very central.

The Toilet/ en-suit situation was not expected! there was no full hight walls or door to give you privacy. One thing I would recommend is that the staff do a very short walk around tour, we felt a little lost when we arrived there welcome process could do with sharpening up, but in the grand scheme of thigs I would highly recommend this place to close friends and family.

The breakfast was okay. Good variety of items to choose from. The breakfast room was nice. The staff was attentive but not really friendly or engaging which is okay I guess. New Year's Eve we weren't staying at Hotel but were early to go to our reservation elsewhere. The staff made the outside available for our family of 7 to enjoy a glass of Prosecco before we left even though they were preparing for their evening guests...that was nice of them!

There wasn't anything I didn't like. It is a beautiful Hotel in a great location. A nice variety of rooms. My husband didn't want to stay in a cave but our children did - the Hotel has both options. Our suite was a lovely size, well appointed and comfortable.

This is a nice Hotel with excellent and very friendly service personal. Great location it is amazing and from there you can explore the Sassi and more. Nice breakfast despite covid restrictions. After check in waiting the ordered Espresso was free.

It was not real 5 Star experience compared to other 5 Star hotel we stay in like Peninsula, Raffles, Mandarin, ... Reception Space was limited and we had to wait 30-45 minutes, this is not five star like.

Five star ⭐️ luxury! What a room! Even though we always go for the smallest room to save money, this room was anything but small. It felt luxurious and elegant and was a real experience. The cave spa was an experience not to be missed. This was one of three cave hotels we stayed in during our four nights in Matera, and the night here was as magical as the other two, but this one with opulence! The perfect location and road too if you ask us ;).

It doesn’t feel as old and possibly authentic as Il Palazzotto or Corte Pietro so I’d combine a stay at one of these two if you can.

Breakfast provided a full assortment of local meats and cheeses. Several varieties of fruit were available as well as breads and sweets. The staff were fantastic, arranging my transportation to visit a city nearby as well as making reservations for dinner. They were very attentive. Excellent for a single traveler! Highest marks all around.

This property is very centrally located right in the middle of the Sassi, with excellent restaurants and bars in close proximity. I stayed in one of the suites which was beautiful, there was nothing to fault.

You can only use the pool once during your stay, or else you have to pay €40pp. I think this is a little unreasonable. There appears to be breakfast options that you can order, but it was dependent on the staff serving.

Best location for Matera sightseeing. Close to any of historical place you have to see, to any of nice restaurants you have to try. It’s very romantic especially in the night. If you have a car(rental car) with you, by the way, Matera is also great location for visiting other Puglia cities such as Alberobello.

Nothing! Price is also very reasonable even during the high-season for the tourists.

The half board package was great. The restaurant is really good. The Pool and Spa a must experience. The room was very comfortable. Location was the best.

The reception could have given us tips to get a good private tour of the city. They did not give any such information previous or upon arrival..
