Easy to find, kind of hidden out of the way from the main street but easily findable by taxies and by google maps. Super clean and always smelled like incense, really quiet too. We were placed on the floor with the smoking area (4F), but nothing smelled at all unless you actually went into the smoking booth. Staff super helpful and kind; ask them for directions, restaurant recommendations, reservation help, etc. and they got it. Just be ready to use google translate probably. First floor has most bath amenities available to grab n go, not placed in room (ie. bath scrubbers, razors, shower caps, extra toothbrushes/pastes, etc). 2nd floor bath was small and there’s an indicator for how crowded it is, open til late through the night and restocked quite frequently. Found it easier to shower there than in the room, which was a bit small, even for a double twin room. But there is only one bath at one fairly nice temperature, probably wouldn’t go if it was too full though. Bath had lockers for valuables and shoes, but you have to take your own towel and pick up essentials other than soap from the lobby (ie. shower caps, razors, scrubbers, etc). They provide cute bathrobe top and bottoms in japanese style and slipper clips so you don’t lose your slippers. Room itself was honestly really small, but had everything we needed. Loved that they had a humidifier and a pitcher to fill it up, helped avoid some nosebleeds; a little weird that the sink was outside in the room (rather than in the restroom), but honestly it made it easier to share the restroom. Toilet equipped with a bidet and facilities all pretty clean. USB plugs next to each bed and easy-to-reach buttons to shut off all lights from the bed. Beds weren’t the BEST, honestly kinda more like a futon thickness, but clean and provided 3 great pillows so no complaints.

I would say my only two complaints were: 1) Not that this is a HUGE deal but I arrived late at night and didn’t notice that the hotel is located RIGHT NEXT to a funeral/tomb garden? My window faced the entire garden and it was just kind of odd to notice it the next day. Only noting as some might not be aware and might take that seriously. 2) the shower in the room wasn’t dirty per se, but kind of smelled funky (maybe from the drain)? Almost like no one had used it in a while, which makes sense as the 2F shared spa is really nice and much bigger, and we personally used the shared spa both nights we stayed so we never used the shower either.

This might be the most beautiful hotel I've ever stayed at. Even though it's close to the bustling Shijo/Kawaramachi intersection (full of shopping malls and close to public transportation), it's set in a quiet side street, and when you enter, it feels like entering the halls of a Buddhist temple (which is, in fact, located right next to the entrance). Staff are extremely professional, helpful, and friendly. Rooms are comfortable and spacious (especially by Japanese standards), and the hot bath (sento) is a great place to relax, even in the middle of the night. I'd also recommend reserving a spot for the 7am ceremony at the temple that's integrated into the building, it's a great cultural experience and you get to see some of the temple artifacts after the ceremony concludes.

The sink is located in the bedroom itself, rather than the bathroom. That's convenient, but you'll inevitably end up spilling some water drops on the floor when grabbing the towels.

My wife left her purse in the cab. We asked the hotel staff for help because the cab was caught on the street and we didn't take a receipt for the trip, so we didn't know the name of the cab company. The girl at the front desk first called all the cab companies in Kyoto and then contacted the police. Our bag was found there. The hotel staff member made every effort and helped us a lot. We would like to thank her for that and say that we would love to come back to this hotel again!

Love this place! The place is in the heart of Kyoto city and in a small street, so steps away from everything, but quite at night time. We stayed 3 nights here, Day 2 was a heavy raining day, we spent the whole day in the market street across the road. There are a lot of nice shops and interesting cafe there. The breakfast is definitely a highlight, a good taste of Kyoto tranditional breakfast. The public bath was a bit busy during our stay, the status can be found on the TV, i picked the least busy time to go, found it very calming.

location is one of the best in Kyoto, near by train staion, taxi fare from Kyoto station cost 1200 yen, very good deal while you have two big luggage with you. I love the pubblic big bath, due to less schedule of rooms number, it was always empty while after check in or late night. big bath is a wonderful facility for me after staying so many hotels in Kyoto, this is the one I shall keep coming back. espeicaly booking.com is curretly big discount on this hotel. it might cost only 100-130 USD a night. of course high season is way overhigh.

there are four choice of breakfast set, if you stay over a week, you may choose non breakfast include package, you may pay upon with 2530 yen for a person. 5 minutes walk there is a Macdonald. room space is a little limited for two luggages. but you may put one under the bed. if there is a pay laundry machine unit will be wonderful.

Great location, clean and modern. This hotel is just a stone throw away from the Hankyu Kawaramachi station. Very convenient location, plenty to see within walking distance. Rooms are decent size from Japan standards. Very clean and some smart designs.

The hotel is on a street which means ‘Temple Alley”. There are tens of temples on the same street. The hotel itself is developed in part of a temple’s lot… and is very close to the temple and its yard. It isn’t a real problem for me but some could find it uneasy.

Hotel located right in the heart of Kyoto, close to the shopping and market area as well as Gion. The room was spacious and lovely, the onsen was amazing, the design of the hotel (room, lobby, onsen) was fantastic - there's always a lovely light smell of incense in the lobby for instance. We did a roadtrip around most of Japan and stayed in about 10 hotels and Mitsui Garden Kyoto was easily our favorite of them all. The most amazing part is that it's not even that expensive, nor does it advertise all it's great features, so we just arrived without any particular expectations and were blown away.

Hard to find something we didn't like, but I recall that Google Maps lists a location for the hotel which is about 100m away. The restaurant only offers traditional Japanese Kaiseki style food, which wasn't our favorite.

The breakfast was really good, you have a choice of 3 types of Japanese meals or a Western meal. The front desk staff was so welcoming & accommodating. This hotel is a hidden gem located near the Teramachi Dori. Such a convenient location. The onsen was very nice & clean. I would definitely recommend this hotel to all my friends. This was my first time staying at a Mitsui Garden hotel & look forward to staying at their other Japan locations. .

They provide luggage service to transport suitcases to their branch near Kyoto station with a fee of ¥300(around 2 USD) per bag/luggage. This service was really helpful to save time for sightseeing.

Slightly difficult to communicate with staff. I’m a Japanese but even when I speak in Japanese, they do not answer my questions directly. I asked them if I can arrange a vegetarian breakfast meal, but up till now, I still don’t know if they provide a vegetarian meal. I may use this accommodation again if they decide to provide a meal for vegetarian.
