TSUGU Kyoto Sanjo by THE SHARE HOTELS

The location was excellent. Walking distance to everything we wanted to see, central markets, shopping and the old part of Kyoto. The bathroom was lovely and easy to share for 3 of us. The communal kitchen was fantastic. Everything was always clean, we used it regularly.

The room was a little smaller than we expected but was easy for the three of us all the same. The pillows were too hard!

The hotel's location is great for walking around the Nishiki Market neighbourhood as well as commuting to other areas of Kyoto via public transport. The staff is friendly and helpful. The common lounge / dining space is a very convenient facility, as is the 24-hr coin-operated laundry. Our room was Japanese-style with a tatami area, which was very useful because we had large suitcases. Everything was clean and comfortable.

Dryers in Japan don't dry clothes 100%, so we had to hang damp clothes in our room for a couple of days; would recommend offering a clothes drying rack to guests who need it. Photos of our room showed a cupboard/storage, but it's apparently storage for spare futons. So it was a bit inconvenient to not be able to unpack for our 5-night stay. Both these are not deal-breakers, but would have been good to know.

Great location near the teramachi shopping street and within walking distance from nishiki market as well

Nothing in particular, but if you like your accommodation right next to a train station, this one is about 7-8 min walk from the nearest Karasuma Oike station

We loved this location in Kyoto as it was a short walk to major train lines and tourist areas but far enough away from the hustle and bustle. Lots of great restaurants, cafes and bakeries nearby and designer shops for clothing and souvenirs. The hotel itself is very modern, staff were always welcoming and it was easy to use the laundry facilities. The breakfast and coffee were delicious and it was useful having the lounge area to heat items and cook if you wanted to prepare your own meals. Very relaxing and would stay here again.

You had to specify the exact time each morning you wanted to have breakfast and some earlier times were always taken. This didn't bother us too much but if you were wanting to get out and explore very early in the day I would suggest mentioning this upon checking in.

The room was large and spacious, Japanese style. It was very useful to have the toilet separate from the bathroom. Small fridge was useful for keeping our drinks cold and fruit fresh. The location was excellent, near the food market and lots of restaurants and shops, and close walk to subway station. The futons were comfortable, the low table with the pillows takes some getting used to--but it is the Japanese experience! Staff downstairs was happy to answer questions and help with luggage storage upon check-out.

I'd have liked to have a chair in the room, but I suppose it is not the Japanese style. Just more comfortable when putting on your shoes, easier to get up from (after a certain age). But this is something you learn once you try the Japanese style--and has nothing to do with the quality of the hotel! Perhaps the option of a breakfast would have been useful for have. And a smart TV.

Amazing location. Shared kitchen a bonus. Rooms were very comfortable and staff helpful. Most comfortable beds we had in Japan. We didn’t do the breakfast.

We thought the cafe would be open throughout the day to access food when we weren’t wandering around the city - but it actually only provides a set breakfast and is a coffee shop throughout the day. It was fine though as there is plenty on offer in Kyoto. The only other things was the heating was set quite high throughout the hotel (winter) and we had our window open the whole time we were there even with air on set to 18 as our room got a little hot. We would definitely stay here again.

A hidden gem!! We loved staying here with our two-year old - the room was very spacious and clean, the amenities were complete and great, and the staff were lovely and very helpful. The bathroom is fantastic too. The breakfast was very tasty - especially the yoghurt and the butter toast, and the coffee is great (the breakfast is at their local café). The location was just perfect, within walking distance to the main metro line, as well as plenty of shops, restaurants, the palace, etc. Overall - our favourite hotel from our stay in Japan! Will definitely come here again when we'll come back to Kyoto (and we know we will, after all 5 nights were far from enough to explore this beautiful city :))

Perhaps the one thing I'd recommend improvement on is the number of pillows :) but it's minor really, just wish there was more than 1 pillow per person.

The hotel is well located, near all amenities and shopping area including the Nishiki market and subway. The room is spacious for 2 adults and 2 kids, clean and nice. There is also a shared kitchen/living area. Quite interesting.

Just a little comments for the coin laundry (there are 2 washers and 2 dryers). After 7pm, it’s quite crowded and since the dryers don’t really dry well, most guests will use them for over 2 hours, which means that you may have to wait over 2 hours for one available dryer. During our stay, unfortunately, 2 guests have used the dryers for over 2:30 :-(.

Great location, dimmable lights, magnetic room service cards, washing machine and driers on the premises, well-equipped and clean kitchen area, helpful staff, luggage service and vending machine inside the building are probably just the tip of the iceberg. I didn't get to test the staff's English skills, nor their café's delicate pastries, but they seemed capable and delicious respectively.

The room layout was a little annoying for a (potentially up to) 3 person room, as there is only one towel hook in the bathroom and the innermost bed doesn't have access to the bedside table (which has two power outlets integrated). Bed wasn't comfortable for me personally and blankets were a bit on the oppressive side.

Great location. A few steps away from Teramachi street but that bit far enough for it to be super quiet. Loads of lovely boutiques and restaurants nearby. The room was big, big Japanese-style bathroom, lovely fully blackout shutters and lovely minimal concrete style. Breakfast was good: not western style with huge buffets etc… just what you need for a nutritious breakfast and it’s all organic. There’s a shared kitchen and laundry facilities as well (we didn’t use them). Lovely English speaking stuff who kept our bags before checkin and after checkout.

Smart TV was in the room but Netflix was blocked :( also, remember to hang the sign to clean the room or they won’t come in at all (we forgot the first day)! It’s a long walk to get to Gion and it’s not super connected to that area, but it’s a very enjoyable walk.
