Wayfarer Kyoto Shijo

There was no breakfast. The location was very central and close to the bus 50. Which one can take to the Kyoto Train station or Noji castle.

The check in process was rather complicated and there was extra tax pay involved. I would think that both of those should have been covered by the booking.com booking.

We booked an essential tatami family. It was great value for money. The room was japanese style, big, clean and comfortable, with plenty of storage. The members of the staff were nice and helpful. The location was good. Hard to get anything better for the money we paid. We stayed 5 nights and we would definitely go back if staying in Kyoto.

You can hear some noise from the other rooms but during the night it was quiet. The only time there was some noise later in the night, we let the member of the staff know and they managed it. The futon mattress in not thick but we used 2 and it was comfortable.

Stayed 2 nights, family of 4. This was a lovely room, giving a great feeling of traditional Japanese rooms, with tatami mats and comfortable futons. Room’s design was great overall. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Made enjoying Kyoto great.

A smart TV would have been the icing on the cake. Location fine if not a tiny bit far from the centre of things. Some feedback: if room cleaning is only done once every 3 days, then cleaning products ought to be provided, including dish soap, sponge and dish towel. This isn’t specific to this hotel, but all hotels with a green initiative of room cleaning once every 3/4 days.

beautiful apartment, we stayed five days and it was very comfortable. staff was very friendly and ready to help, the room was cleaned only one time during our stay for their eco policy (keep it clean yourself and it won’t be a problem). if you plan to use the JR Pass there is no metro nearby and you gotta walk half an hour from the kyoto station. it is close to the kyoto metro tho, you gotta buy the ticket first. location is good, you’re on the middle of the new kyoto so if you plan to visit the old centre (yasaka pagoda etc) you gotta take the metro/bus or just walk.

the staff were very international and everyone was able to speak english. staff were friendly and greeted us every time we entered or left the place. staff went out of their way for us by helping us with every request such as getting more hangers and trash bags. there were water bottles in the drawers outside our rooms near the lift as well which we could just take whenever we needed. Nice to use the washing machine and dryers. the staff assisted us to find a nearby laundry shop as well in case we were not able to use the machines the room was very cosy and we had everything we needed. it was comfortable and spacious for 2 travellers with 1 luggage each. there were towels, hangers, room slippers, toothbrushes and travel brochures downstairs.

the aircon was quite cold and we were not sure how to control it properly! we didn't know we had to pay for the property tax at the place. we were worried that the previous person using the dryer would take a long time to collect their clothes. maybe there can be a system such as a logbook so that the people who use the dryers can write their name and room number so that the staff can call them if they do not collect their belongings within 15 minutes.

We really liked that it was new and clean. The space was comfortable enough for 2 adults and 2 children.

We didn't like the design of the lights, where if you turned off the main light all the lights would turn off including the ones in the corridor and the entrance. So you couldn't do something else in the corridor if someone wanted to sleep! Also the same with the bath/sink tap. It was also conjoined. You couldn't brush your teeth when someone was showering. This is hard when you have a family of 4.

The room is so spacious for 3 persons. One gets the bed in a separate corner which is nice and cozy. The room has little chairs to sit on. The staffs are all English speaking and very helpful. The facilities are good for travelers - free drinking water, washer/dryer, pajamas, etc. The location is near Shijo Karasuma, great for getting to Osaka by Hankyu Line, accessing bus and subway, also for food, shopping. The price is reasonable.

There is no lobby space, when we wait downstairs, there is no space to wait. The toilet seat is loosed, it needs to be fixed.

The Signature Suite was spacious and fully equipped. The wi-fi was strong. We had a high floor and look out to the neighbourhood from the balcony. Bus no. 50 stops right in front of the hotel and is about 10 min ride to and from Kyoto Station. Standard bus fare is 220 yen. We found it easier to get to hotel using the bus than take a train and walk to the hotel. It is easier to get to where you want to go from Kyoto station. There are trains, metro, subways and buses that run north-south-east-west of Kyoto from this station. The bus terminal station is right in front of Kyoto Station level 1. The basement of the station has lots of choices for food and drinks if you are hungry or thirsty. Around the hotel, there is a handmade soba noodle restaurant, a Spanish restaurant, a beer place, convenience stores, a 24hr laundromat, a money changer, a small exercise park and many other small eateries which we did not have time to try. If you walk and explore further down or up the street where the hotel is, you will some to the main road which is where the business district is. You will find more restaurants and supermarkets. You can find very good Tonkatsu here. Wished we had time to visit the market nearby. It was closed on Wednesday when we were there and we had to leave for Tokyo the next day.

Would have been nice if the bathroom was a little bigger. We also preferred the price quoted and we paid before our trip included the local taxes. We had to make an additional payment at the hotel. Though it was not much more but we wished the amount was communicated upfront so that there are no surprises. The hotel could share useful information with guests to help make their stay better such as provide map of Kyoto, how to get to and from hotel and Kyoto station by bus. This is definitely much easier option unless you have huge luggage. Suggest a few places for guests to explore around the hotel. These are areas that can add to the attractions of staying at Wayfarer.

This hotel was a good place to stay in Kyoto. About 10 min walk from train and main road with a few smaller restaurants and family marts close by. Liked that there was a small balcony and could open the door to let in fresh air. Lots of attention to detail regarding the look of the hotel and staff were very friendly and helpful.

No common area to eat meals. Bit further away from main strip and convenience stores than expected.
