Our room was very spacious with two double beds. The room was clean and felt quite luxurious, as did the entire hotel. The onsen on the top floor was very nice; we used both the gendered separated onsen and the family onsen. The location was also very good; about a ten minute walk from the station, 10-15mins from the main attractions, there was a 7/11 5-10mins away as well as an excellent restaurant called Chitose. The staff were very friendly as well.

The only thing we didn’t like were the feather pillows as they flattened out to basically nothing and it felt like your head was directly on the bed.

We loved the location, close to the train station and main area of Takayama, everything was within walking distance. The private Onsens were great, we never had to queue and there was lots of choices at breakfast, we tried lots of Japanese options. Our room was very spacious.

The breakfast area for sitting and eating was quite small and there was a huge queue one morning (we went at 8.30 as there was a sign in our room to say breakfast is busy 7-8am). As we had a train to catch we had to miss breakfast. Our bathroom was a bit strange and our sink tap was a censor tap which made washing our faces difficult.

The location was good, there were restaruants within 600 meteres of the hotel. The train & bus terminals were within about 700 meters of the hotel. My room was a good size, the bed was wonderfully comfortable, the toilet and hand basin were a seperate identity from the bathroom. They had a good onsen on the 7th floor, both public and private onsens, also they had a bar set up each night on the same floor which you paid a fee for, if you wanted to have a drink. There were the usual vending machines should you wish not to go out in the evening. The buffet breakfast was exceptionally good with ample choices of Japanese and western choices. And finally, you were given a welcome drink voucher upon arrival. They also had a system that if you didnt want your room cleaned they resupplied you with the linen like fresh towels etc, and as a reward they gave you a voucher to take to reception to select your choice of gifts.

As it was winter going out at night wasn't much to my liking, however if there had been a restaurant a bit closer i would have ventured out. but this is just my thoughts, I'm sure it worked ok for other groups

A lot of things were great about this place. The location is an easy 10 minute walk from the station, and then close by to other sightseeing visits (up to half an hour walk) for things like Hida Village or old districts. The hotel itself looks modern and well maintained. The staff speak good English and are very helpful and friendly. The room was comfortable with a big bed and plenty of convenience. Sound was also good, I didn't have any issues with outside noise. Onsen and sauna were great too. And all for a great price, one of the cheaper hotels we stayed at!

Everything was good.

Our family of 4 stayed in a triple room for 3 nights. We were pleasantly surprised with the welcome drink of Asahi beer. The beds were very comfortable with soft pillows and fluffy blankets. The private onsen room is fantastic for a cosy relaxing time with family without the awkwardness of being around strangers. We also enjoyed the breakfast spread which include japanese and western food options.

The hotel was around 12 to 14 min walk from the old town which is fine except when the wind is blowing strong. The laundry room was crowded all the time and the dryer couldn't dry our clothes in 1 round.

Staff were amazing - took our bags to our room, spoilt us at the delicious Japanese and Western buffet breakfast, and held our luggage on our day of departure - all with a smile. The room was large for a triple, even by Western standards, with comfy pyjamas and slippers that we could wear everywhere inside the hotel. The absolute highlight was the onsen - indoor and outdoor baths segregated into male and female, as well as four private baths for families, couples, friendship groups, or potentially foreigners who are too shy to bath in front of others. Having hot onsen water to sink into after being out in the cold all day was wonderful. The hotel was also easy walking distance into Takayama itself, so we were able to enjoy a lovely day wandering this beautiful village. Our overnight stopover on the way to the ski fields turned out to be a highlight of our whole trip!

Our view of the mountains was largely obscured so next time I'd specifically ask for a room with a nice view, but really zero complaints.

onsen was a bonus as was the welcome drink on arrival, rooms were pretty business like in style but it was a great location for access to the spring festival float route and close enough to stumble to with big bags from the station or back from the eating and drinking parts of town, but takayama isn’t exactly big anyway. Oh, and there is a coin laundry! despite what it says in the facilities section.

hard to put my finger on but possibly just the feel of big tour groups in the hotel…the rooms were the least sound proofed of any we have stayed at in these three weeks and tour groups have a habit of taking loudly in corridors on the way the breakfast…but again, not exactly a deal breaker

I would definitely recommend this property if you're in Takayama. I enjoyed the top floor onsen area, with an indoor and outdoor bath (on the women's side anyways, not sure about the men's!) It's not large, but i went one early evening and one early morning and it wasn't crowded at all. There is also a lounge up there, where you can sit and work or relax. It is unmanned, until the evening when there is like an open bar with purchased voucher option, but it's nice if you want to sit somewhere other than your room - and has views, compared to the lobby seating area. Breakfast was buffet, and for #glutenfree there wasn't a lot, but again, not unexpected, so not an issue. The rooms are a good size actually, and in very good shape. Beds are very comfortable! Wifi worked well. There are properties that are slightly closer to town, but it is about an 8 minute walk to the train station, and 12 minute walk to say the morning market area, so really not an issue - Takayama isn't big! The front desk staff was helpful. You can store your bags (yes, it's in the lobby area on these racks, but I didn't have any concerns about it). All in all I had a pleasant stay and would recommend!

We had a great stay at Wat Hotel. It was great value for money, super clean and kid friendly. Upon arrival the staff were very helpful and we were able to make use of the free welcome drink. We enjoyed our stay and made the most of both the private and public onsen. The kids loved the free ice lollies in the evening after onsening! We also thought the location was great and walkable to everything we wanted. The buffet breakfast was a bonus too.

The rooms are a little small but perfect for a couple of days. As mentioned by a few reviews, breakfast does get quite busy. So I recommend to either go towards the start of breakfast time or closer to the end, so you don’t have to wait.

Location is close to station and restaurant area and there is a convenience store within five minutes walk. Friendly helpful staff. Lovely welcome drink in pleasant seating area. Excellent room with lots of amenities. Breakfast was choice of Japanese and western and there was plenty to choose from. Clean relaxing indoor/outdoor baths. Comfy rooftop bar area with piano and amazing views of the mountains.

No english channels on TV. The hotel has a lot of different offers and information when you arrive. It's easy to miss them unless you read all the information given on lots of slips of paper. Bar area is available in the evening but drinks are sold on 'as much as you can drink' ticket basis. Unfortunate if you only want one beer or glass of wine.
