Our Habitas Bacalar

One of the best hotels we've ever stayed at. Serene location on the lagoon, unique tented room with amazing outdoor shower, incredible service and unreal food and drink. It's an awesome place.

This would have been an easy 10/10 - but unfortunately there was a group of around 20 people that checked in when we did and they were a complete nightmare. Loud, drinking in the lagoon and being very disrespectful to the natural surroundings. Not the kind of people you want staying at a sustainable, relaxing hotel. The staff and management didn't do enough to quieten them down or stop them, and it totally disrupted our stay and experience. We were offered a generous discount on check-out, which was very kind and the reason why this score isn't lower, but more could have been done to stop these idiots.

We really had a fantastic stay at Habitas Bacalar. The environment and architecture of this hotel are just stunning. From arrival to departure, we were also pampered by the staff. Not to mention our room. The deluxe tents are so comfortable and have more luxury than some hotel rooms. The outdoor shower is an experience apart. (Pay close attention to the lock on the door. The first night my husband & myself locked ourselves in the outdoor shower which required an adventurous climb to get back in through our front door ;-)). The bar and beach chairs are beautifully located at the lake, and we didn't miss a pool at all. The water is so pure and warm!

There is simply nothing that disappointed ours. Just keep in mind, if you want to go out to eat a lot, you will need a car. Cabs are not cheap and you are about 7 or so KMs from downtown Bacalar. No problem for us but not insignificant if you come by plane/taxi.

The design of the hotel is great, the room is super comfortable. The food program is one of the best we have ever experienced. Overall a perfect spot for a relaxing retreat.

The 5 star hotel classification is misleading, as the property has little to no service, so it cannot be compared. It's more similar to luxury camping than to a 5 star hotel when it comes to service.

The most beautiful hotel ever. Stunning location and you immediately feel relaxed when you arrive. Extremely attentive staff, beautiful rooms, very clean. Amazing outdoor shower! Delicious breakfast and smoothies. The water is beautiful and the location is so tranquil. We were woken up by amazing jungle noises every morning. You can communicate via WhatsApp with the reception desk, which makes everything so easy. Most activities (yoga, sound healing) etc. are included in the price. You can also rent things like stand up paddling boards for free.

The restaurant is quite expensive and for dinner, there's only one vegetarian main dish. We ended up driving into the town (approx 8k away) every evening instead, which was a little annoying.

Habitas is an excellent chain of hotels. You know you're getting high end, lifestyle stays. The lagoon itself is unbelievably beautiful and the paddle boards and kayaks put on by the hotel was a nice touch. The food is excellent, lot's of veggie options and the cocktails are out of this world. We took part in a lot of the classes, yoga, meditation, e-foiling which was great fun to add more meaning to the stay. Would recommend to anyone.

If you want to visit Bacalar itself you will need to get a taxi or drive yourself. The hotel is a bit in the middle of nowhere. Excellent for a lagoon retreat, not so great if you're keen to go out and explore.

The location is simply stunning! Right on the edge of the beautiful Bacalar lake and surrounded by the forrest, you feel like you're almost in the middle of the jungle. The "rooms" (they're actually big tents) are spacious, comfortable, and very pretty. The hotel offers many extra activities (yoga, paddleboarding, meditation, etc.) which are all included in the price of your room. We were also lucky to be here during a full moon, when the hotel serves a lakeside dinner with live music instead of in the restaurant, which was very romantic. The hotel staff go out of their way to cater to your every need, but manage to do so in a very tactful and not-in-your-face sort of way.

The food at the restaurant was very hit and miss. Some meals were great, but some were surprisingly mediocre.

none but if we should say something: not lot of space to stock your clothes a tip for the stay for the future: would be Nice to have a shuttle bus to the city center on fixed hours, so you can explore the center / dine in the city center without the worry to drive back in the dark.

Everything. Immersed in the jungle, isolated from the chaos of civilisation and right on the Bacalar bright blue lagoon, the tipi tent rooms are simply delightful. Comfortable, with a modern decor and a great outdoor shower. The food was particularly good, all local ingredients paired together for maximum taste and cooked in a healthy way. The staff was friendly, attentive and helpful at all times. It was the perfect place to rest but also offered activities both on location such as yoga and in the surrounding area like numerous Mayan ruins just a short car ride away and scuba diving on the coast. We definitely want to go back.

It would’ve been nice to have a few hours of quiet time with no music on the deck to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Also, I would add more yoga practices at 9.00 in the morning as opposed to the afternoon as it’s technically the best time to practice.

I celebrated my 40th here. The deck facing the lagoon was our favorite place to spend our time. I enjoyed the SUP yoga and Bee Well therapy at the spa. The food, drinks and coffee were great. Very relaxed vibe, too mellow and relaxed for a New Year's Eve party. If you have a stressful life, this is a good place to get away and be forced to slow down.

The rooms have very thin walls if there are walls at all. You can hear people talking in their rooms when walking around. A couple was talking outside our room, it sounded like they were in our bathroom. Pack your best mosquito spray, we took some and still got bit many times. Music on deck was chill, perfect for reading or falling asleep. For the price, 2 days max would be enough.

Absolutely stunning from beginning to end. Gorgeous property facing Bacalar Lagoon and the sunrise. The rooms, the restaurants, the terrasse, the yoga studio, the spa: everything feels peaceful and harmonious. The food and drink options are creative and elevated. There is a very thoughtful welcome ceremony upon guest arrival that I truly enjoyed. Free paddle board and kayaks to explore the lagoon on your own. I wish I stayed there for a full week!

Habitas has a full list of daily wellness activities. Most of them are free, but I was surprised to see some of them come at an exorbitant extra cost (like the sunrise group paddle boarding). Everything else was perfection.
