Villas Ecotucan

Amazing bungalow in the middle of the rainforest. They are big and fully equipped. In the bed there's a mosquito net. Each bungalow has a terrace with a hammock. Amazing star view in the night ! the village has its own dock on the lagoon and you can use kayaks for free The staff can also guide in a jungle journey (for 15$ MXC)

What a retreat! It’s a true paradise, with extremely friendly staff to complete the experience. Lake access is easy and so wonderful. Spacious casitas and incredible nature.

Included breakfast is delicious, and dinner service has just begun, but there is no lunch. As I had no car and this is pretty remote, I was a bit stressed about food. However, they readily offered for me to keep any food I brought with me in the kitchen refrigerator, and I did find an excellent restaurant called Villa Santuario just five minutes walk which was open for lunch.

It is a heavenly experience to stay in Ecotucan! More on the "glamping" side, as it is true you don't have wifi in your room, you cannot charge your phones in the room (at the reception you can without any problem), and you can meet some insect friends in your room, but you also get all the luxury of listening to the jungle sounds all day long, get kayaks for free to explore the lagoon, have movie-like beds with mosquito nets, nature-inspired decoration, and furniture... oh I would return there anytime! We loved it !! ** My mom traveled with us. She doesn't like camping, is afraid of insects, and likes her comfort - I was worried she wouldn't manage in Ecotucan, but she absolutely loved it and saw it as a great adventure! :)

If you have a car, the location is not a problem. Without a car, you are at a mercy of local taxis... We rented two double rooms. One had a hanger for clothes and was more spacious. The other one didnt have the hanger so we didnt really have much space where to put our stuff... a hanger in every unit would be nice ;).

Loved the staff! They were so nice and helpful. They helped us with some first aid problems, gave us tips for the most amazing boat excursion and were really nice to chat with. The breakfast was also nice enough (they changed it about everyday so you don’t eat the same thing everyday, and eve though it’s not that special it was still really good) and the location was so tranquil and beautiful.

It’s about 10 min drive to the city center, which is not bad at all and we preferred staying in the “jungle”. But the road to the hotel is really bumpy and dark so that could be better.

Wonderful cabanas set in lush jungle with fabulous lake access and free use of kayaks. The cabanas had fan and mosquito nets but were warm at night. We had a wonderful 3 night stay (wish it was longer!). The whole staff team were great, very helpful and knowledgeable. Breakfast was wonderful with daily fruit and hotcakes (pancakes) plus a hot Mexican dish each day. We tried the hotel/eco cabins along the road behind Villas Ecotucan for a drink and evening meal - very reasonable and decent food. The pizzas looked fabulous but needed ordering 2hrs in advance. Idyllic setting and really appreciated the eco credentials. About 10-15 mins out of bacalar, but that means a quiet unspoiled lakeside where you could be the only people on the lake, just beautiful.

Steep and very potholed access from the main highway - go slow! No restaurant/bar/drinks fridge - meant travelling to bacalar most days.

The room was very nice and spacious, we had a very large bed with extremely soft sheets. The location was great, you can kayak for free and swim in the lagoon. It is a short drive to Bacalar, so if you have organised activities there it takes about 18 minutes. Breakfast was great, even though there was no dinner we ate at Ecotucan every evening. They have two very good snacks availeable. Otherwise you have to go to one of the hotels nearby that has a restaurant. There is a lot of room to chill and explore at the acommodation, the wifi was ok and availeable in all common areas (except obviously the lagoon). Everybody was very friendly and helpful, we had a perfect stay.

As soon as an opening showed up for our dates at Villas Ecotucan, we jumped on it as it was what we were looking for but earlier was unavailable. The layout of the facility is beautiful, landscaping and plantings carefully tended, and paths and the bungalows well-lit and identified. The bungalow had ample power points for charging, was clean and comfortable, and housekeeping was attentive. We were greeted immediately and assisted in getting our luggage to our bungalow, and got timely and excellent recommendations for dinner in Bacalar that night and the next. We enjoyed a sunrise kayak excursion along the shores of Lagoon of Seven Colours with Adventure Bacalar, which operates a number of excursions from their base at Villas Ecotucan (thank you Jacqueline, Erik, and Yosri) and actually took the time to rest and enjoy the comfortable and peaceful surroundings. The breakfasts were simple and delicious, and filtered water was available all the time in the reception area. The staff were friendly and helpful all around and made our stay at Villas Ecotucan even more enjoyable. A great stay!

Perhaps some additional seating in the bungalow and a small refrigerator to keep water cold would be helpful.

Breakfast was great, people were friendly. Water were fantastic.It was lovely to watch the natural life and experience the calmness of the place. Room was large. Our vacation in the vacation. Great secluded place for a romantic getaway.

No internet in the room, but wasn't really missed. An air condition in the room would have been preferred before the fan that was there. While we were there they were only serving breakfast, but we understand they are working on a menu for lunch and dinner.

Definitely a Marmite experience - you'll either love it or hate it and for us (after a bit of adjusting😊) it was the former. Having stayed in a hotel in the centre of Mexico City only a few days earlier, it was difficult to imagine we'd find an even noisier hotel room anywhere! However, these were all the right noises - crickets, cicadas, birds etc - and the 'fairy lights' were ably supplied by fireflies - wonderful! The facilities in the room were a little basic, but that is the point really and everything was comfortable and clean. Quick Tip - if like me you enjoy coming back to a nice cold beer after a long day exploring, be aware there are no fridges in the rooms. However, if you buy a few cans from the town the staff are more than happy to pop them in the main kitchen fridge (or freezer!) Happy Days 🍺😁

Staff is simply awesome, the best staff you could ask in a hotel/resort/B&B Location is gorgeous, in the jungle, and the access to the laguna is perfect Bed is supercomfortable and the room is big: our bathroom had windows directly on the jungle Breakfast is good and restaurant better Easy parking in loco In the room there is no TV and no WIFI: this is a plus to go and enjoy the marvellous lagoon It is a "real eco" resort
