Hotel do Mar

Spacious mid century modern resort hotel with many stylish original features. Excellent facilities including a beautifully maintained outdoor pool situated in spacious manicured gardens. Polite, competent and well coordinated staff. Guest rooms are large and well appointed. The breakfast is generous. Well located across the road from Praia do Ouro and with easy access to the huge choice of seafood restaurants that Sesimbra offers.

Getting from the west wing of the hotel to beach level is a bit complicated but fine after one learns the path.

1. Location is worth it. The whole beach, restaurants..everything. walking distance to the castle at the top and to the Bay with water activities. 2. The room was very clean, spacious and with a beautiful view of pool and beach. Plus a balcony. 3. The outdoor pool is well maintained and the area is is beautiful with shade, sun, bar and beach view. 4. Staff at the restaurant were very helpful, kind and ever smiling. 4. Location is still worth it.

Expect a few run downs as the hotel is a bit dated but it still serves it's purpose. Will definitely be more expensive upon refurbishment.

Amazing location loved the big and deep swimming pool. Our room was noticeably big with a balcony with sea view. The breakfast and dinner were also surprisingly good. It is noticeable that the Hotel was constructed many years ago but still holds up very well.

There was the indication that the hotel had a gym which is true, kind of... Out of eight or so gym equipment, only half of these were operational, and all of the equipment seemed very old. Had to ask in the reception for indications since there are no signs to lead the way for the gym. The gym space itself seems like it is in construction. It was clearly an afterthought and not properly done. Needs work.

The hotel was built in the 60s and has some vintage art on display which gives it a quiet old fashioned and charismatic atmosphere. With its large corridors and halls with see view it does not feel like the usual mass vacation hotels. All rooms have a terrace with an amazing view to the Sesimbra bay. Breakfast is ok with a good variety. From the hotel building it takes less then 10 minutes to get to Praia do Ouro, just take the elevator and cross the street. The outdoor pool is not big but is good and provides towels. The indoor heated pool is really good. There is a private hotel parking lot but we got a public place just outside the hotel.

Breakfast did not have fresh fruit juices There is no adequate place to hang beach towels, I dont understand why this happens is most hotels since its is a very annoying situation

Hotel has a classic charm. Spectacular sea/beach views from the room and bar/dining room. Outside pool is lovely with the trees and greenery - certainly compared to the other Sesimbra big hotels. Breakfast was good - staff very helpful too

The hotel layout is odd as parts have been added over the years which means getting around and in and out to the beach was a combination of corridors/lifts/stairs/spiral stairs etc!

Superb sea view as promised. Very comfortable, light and spacious room with large balcony. Good, generous breakfast. WE didn't eat in the restaurant but had nice, imaginative, snack meals in the bar. As well as swimming in the sea, just a couple of minutes away, we used the outdoor and (heated) indoor pools as well. Friendly, helpful staff everywhere. In addition, it was easy to find the hotel, driving in by car - signposting was excellent.

Amazing original 1960’s interiors that are a joy to fans of retro style. Room spacious but dated in a less positive way than the common spaces but still perfectly acceptable.

General institutional attitudes in the staff who are more concerned about doing their jobs than customer service. This is particularly evident at the breakfast buffet where staff conduct restocking, staff training and cleaning seemingly oblivious to the presence of guests.

The rooms are nice and big with fantastic views. It’s very quiet and the staff is helpful and friendly. The breakfast had good variety. Also, their towels are super soft and big.

It wasn’t a big deal, but the bed was quite hard and not the most comfortable. Also, the fixtures in the bathroom could use an upgrade, but they worked and it’s not something that will keep me from booking again.

The amenities were excellent and a stunning view from our balcony. A great choice at breakfast and the reception staff were always helpful. Yes, the hotel is a little dated, but it was spotlessly clean, and the amenities made up for the hotel being a little dated. Don’t let this put you off staying there. We just had to go down in the lift and cross the road to such a beautiful beach.

Wonderful view and location. Helpful and friendly staff. We were there for 10 days and the breakfast never changed.

Much improvement with the steps down to the beach is needed. Complicated lift pattern from 9 to 5 and the 5 to 2. Not suitable for anyone with a disability or young children and with the walking between lifts. Otherwise it was a lovely hotel and very comfortable
