Holiday Inn Express Birmingham Oldbury, an IHG Hotel

Very good base in spite of busy roundabout - the facilities were excellent - housekeeping team exceptional/ standard of cleaning high - professional but friendly housekeeping team meeting all needs. Front desk mostly friendly - certain ones exceptional. The breakfast was excellent- wide choice catered for - comfortable, relaxing environment.

The ironing board and iron could be of better quality especially for longer term stays - ?? provide laundering facilities or direct to laundering facilities particularly for longer term stay. I wanted to extend stay for one more night but wasn’t offered discount.

Hotel was conveniently located for our purposes. Breakfast was surprisingly good. Lots of food options to choose from and we always seemed to get a table before the crowds. Located next door to a pub that we dined at one of the evenings. Shower was great. Also had food in hotel on the evening - pizza and nachos - really good food and service.

Air conditioning did not work. Looked like it was hanging off the wall. Window did open so that sufficed. The hotel is located off a large roundabout, linked to the M5. The traffic is very busy - which is fine for me - but the number of ambulances that go via the roundabout is quite high. They all put their sirens on - all times of the day - so just be aware.

Room was clean and convenient to access, staff were polite and extremely helpful; exceeded my expectations (Staff). Shower was lovely and powerful and toilet separate to shower area was nice. Massive bed - very comfortable & tv in good position.

Room (bottom floor) was dark with not very good lighting; to get daylight I had to open curtains and window had carpark directly outside so unable to gain privacy and see adequately to do make up prior to going out: full ceiling light needed for this room. Small leak in bathroom which staff appeared to be grateful this was reported. Breakfast a little below standard, and drinks from machine were warm. Rocky Ironing board which could be dangerous.

Indeed, we truly enjoyed the hotel's ambiance and the exceptional behaviour of the staff. We were celebrating our son's first birthday on July 2nd, 2023. There was a lady staff on the dining during breakfast who, somehow, noticed the way our son was dressed and realized it was his special day. She went out of her way to surprise us by leaving a few adorable small gifts in our room. When we returned to our room and discovered the thoughtful gesture, we were overwhelmed with joy and surprise. We've kept some of those delightful items as cherished souvenirs. We would like to express our utmost appreciation for her warm and considerate demeanour. We also appreciate the fact that the hotel provides luggage storage options for guests who may need it after checking out.

Adding a live omelette station to their breakfast offerings would have been fantastic, providing guests with more variety. Despite the hotel's location on the outskirts of Birmingham, it is conveniently situated near a bus stop, making it easily accessible via public transportation.

Good sized room, good breakfast (including gluten free options) - included for free, free juice and fruit by reception (and a spinner to win free chocolate or a 10% discount off one drink at the bar). A swan towel was placed on one bed, parking was free and it was next door to a Beefeater pub. Comfortable bed, working TVs, hairdryers & and ironing board included in each room as well as air conditioning and net curtains. Clean, tidy rooms and friendly staff. The ensuite bathrooms had a unique feature of allowing the bathroom door to close on the toilet separately from the shower and sink. Didn't pester about a slight delay to checking out.

No plug sockets by the head of the bed, and few sockets in total. Key cards de-magnetised themselves a number of times. One room was missing towels, and the night staff member was overwhelmed by people attempting to book in, including 2 families that were apparently overbooked. Breakfast staff had dealt with over 250 guests, were struggling a little to keep food ready, and ran out of white bread amongst other things. I didn't buy any, but drink prices at the bar were expensive (£5.50 for a bud light for example).

The hotel itself had has a great location and parking facilities. The staff were very helpful and efficient, we had a problem with our TV it was fixed within minutes. The rooms are big and airey and the breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice even for those fussy eaters.

We did not realise or were not informed at the time of booking that it was crufts weekend and that there would be many dogs in the hotel. We actually own 2 dogs and really don't mind them but would if been nice to inform us. Although most were well behaved there was barking and people going out late at night and early in the morning to let the dogs go out for the toilet but it was more the owners making the noise in the corridors and doors banging. One of our party ( we had 3 rooms ) was quite shocked to find a doberman staying in the room opposite theirs and she is slightly frightened of strange dogs. So a heads up would of been nice .

Spacious, clean, tidy room. Last minute booking due to unforseen circumstances, didn't check in until 1:45am, staff were lovely and on hearing reason for stay and offered/issued myself and the rest of my party (2 rooms) late check out free of charge. Not huge choice for breakfast but still sufficient.

Tv in room didn't work, reported this to gentleman on reception desk who gave advice on how to fix and said that if this didn't work he would come have a look. I did not manage to fix it but decided to leave it as it was 5am anyway. This is no reflection on the staff whatsoever as all were polite and professional. Also if you struggle sleeping the location of the hotel is straight off the motorway so the hustle and bustle never ends, again not a reflection on the staff or the standards of the hotel. Drinks behind bar pricey... 4 x redbulls = £14.80! I paid this but if you're not willing to there Is a b&m just across the road.

the room was clean and spacious , the staff work so hard and nothing is too much trouble , the lady manager that was on duty at the weekend was amazing

the breakfast set up is not big enough to accommodate the guests and there were not enough staff to be able to provide the service to the customers. the staff were working providing replacement foods and utensils, clearing tables and also maintaining reception. I witnessed patrons being rude and demanding to the staff but all staff maintained professionalism and had a smile on their face. these staff are a credit to the hotel but things need to change so that these staff continue to work there and looking from the outside they are exhausted with the situation.

We were 15 minutes late for breakfast but JURATE at reception was so welcoming she really was amazing. I was with two kids so she helped us getting cereal and everything she possibly could to help kids have breakfast knowing that breakfast was closed at 10:15am still she managed to get everything :). Other staff at breakfast was nice too :)

Only one usb charging port in the room better if we have few more so if someone forgets charger it will help :)

Loved that the breakfast was all you could eat and had lots of varieties, also catered for gluten free and dairy free which was lovely to see. Fruit was fresh and delicious. Loved that you could request toiletry/sanitary items at reception at no extra cost if you had forgotten anything.

Pillows were very lumpy and uncomfortable. We had a travel cot as well as the sofa bed being pulled out so the room was a very tight squeeze. Luckily we only had 2 hand luggage cases and were easy to slide under the bathroom sink, would have really struggled for room otherwise with 2 adults and 2 children
