Best Western Plus Capitola By-the-Sea Inn & Suites

I love this hotel and come back often, as my daughter is in college in Santa Cruz. Everything was wonderful as far as the property goes. I enjoyed the jacuzzi and the room was clean, spacious and comfortable.

The night desk lady, although very sweet, needs more training. I accidentally gave her the wrong credit card for incidentals. When I asked to use a different card, instead, she seemed frustrated. The switch took 15 minutes. Also, the front desk manager, a young male, wasn't helpful when I tried to exchange my handicap room for a standard room. He did finally agree to switch the room but not before a lot of arguing (on his part).

Room size, room set up and friendly staff. Clean and meeting all requirements. All day tea/coffee in lobby. Simply loved this in rainy weather.

A good American spread of breakfast but most things had too much added sugar. There was literally only plain bagel and meat for other and I am a vegetarian. What I didn’t enjoy in my suite was no utensil which could be put in the microwave. We pay extra for room with kitchen utility but the cups were paper. No mugs available even on request. I would simply say, provide some cutlery in room like other Best Western properties. We left behind so much paper and plastic waste.

Breakfast. Room had a couch and fireplace. Clean and decorated lovely.

TV was off to right of bed, not mounted in front of bed on the wall. Too close to pool so noise was somewhat annoying until after 10pm. Only clean room every three days unless you ask for it. So, same towels and amenities for our three day stay without replenishment unless we asked. We found that a bit annoying.

Room very clean. Mini fridge and microwave in room. (Check cold setting on mini fridge; you might need to up it.) Beds very comfortable. Bedside reading surpasses most places and general lighting excellent. Thermostat easy to understand and manipulate. Small bar soaps lathered well. In-room coffee very good. Nice selection of breakfast items. Whole wheat bread was superb! (I didn't try other breads/pastries.) All staff very friendly and helpful. Safe parking. Convenient to 41st Street Capitola Mall, Whole Foods, New Leaf.

Very small complaints here: scrambled eggs hard and tasteless; bacon needs to be cooked more. Per what check-in person told my husband, there are no rooms with two queen bed available on the ground floor. But then, my husband's reporting is not always reliable, so ?? For those who want easy beach and/or downtown access, this Best Western is not close to either. No down pillow option available.

i was next to the elevator .. regardless all was great thank you all for all you do~ staff/team was fantastic and hopefully they hear that it matters when they give 100+% because they are effecting someone's day, experience, memory and overall energy, so please let your team know and hear you say how amazing they are and that they are partners in this and not a number or an employee/ but a shareholder, investor, partner.... kindly, your humble guest.

very clean

No TV directory in room so called front desk around me 9pm to ask available channels. I was told I had to come down to front desk to see what TV channels are available. My granddaughter was asleep. Asked via text if they could text channels or take a picture of available channels and send me. No response. Went to front desk for bath towels - both times they didn’t have any clean ones.

Rooms were clean and comfortable. Beds were not too hard or too soft and pillows were very plump and not flat. Windows open so it was good to have the cool air at night while we were sleeping. Staff was helpful and engaging. Room had a real nice desk lamp of a type I've never seen before. It was very bright but also had a dimmer and had a button so you could change the color spectrum of the bulb from 65k all the way to 27k. I want one! Breakfast was very good with many choices and the person in charge did a great job keeping everything refilled and fresh.

Coffee maker. It was the kind that uses the flat pods in a little drawer. We always take our small 4 cup coffee pot because we know hotels these days more often than not have this type of coffee maker. Occasionally we get lucky and stay in a hotel that provides a Keurig which makes us happy.

Everything was very friendly and clean. Staff helpful. The staff ”makes the place”. Nicest ever. All of them.

Some problems in bathroom. W flushing and water pressure. Didn’t mention it until check out. As it got worse the last day.

Super convenient location, close to shopping, grocery stores, restaurants and a 12 minute walk down to Capitola Beach. We booked a 2 bedroom suite and it was VERY spacious, had a fireplace, comfortable beds and 2 bathrooms/vanities.

The floors were very dirty. I noticed my 4 year old’s feet were super dirty, I took a wet towel and wiped the floor and it seemed as if the floors had not been mopped at all.

Good breakfast bar, with decent selection. We particularly appreciated whole grain bread and cereal, oatmeal, fresh fruit, almond milk and sugar-free yogurts. Freshly brewed coffee was better than most hotels. Nice pool and hot tub. Friendly staff. Laundry room. Unique decor.

When it got crowded (e.g., weekends), breakfast buffet ran out of eggs and decaf coffee. Took a while to replenish. No fan in bathroom. AC was noisy.
