The property was really cool; historic, soaring 12’ ceilings, cool woodwork, beautiful bar, and a welcome cocktail, which gave us the opportunity to be social with the staff and other patrons. It was fun! The in- house cafe had a nice selection of protein dishes. The espresso was excellent, as was the regular coffee. IThere are a number of dining options within walking distance. The salt water pool was lovely. The bed was very comfortable. The owners must have spent a ton of money renovating this hotel to be an asset to the community. It’s gorgeous!

The shower head was directly out of the shower ceiling, rain shower type. This is way too tall and non adjustable for the average woman’s height. There was no place to hang your bathing suit to drip after swimming except on the one faucet handle, but we had two bathing suits! When we went to swim in the pool they had run out of towels. 🙁 My husband would have preferred a healthy breakfast carb with some whole grain and fiber in it, such as a blueberry bran muffin. Not just a white flour scone.

We loved the historical significance of the building itself coupled with the modern renovations which stayed true to the inn’s original character. There were so many vignettes of interest to explore. The room was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed a complimentary welcome cocktail downstairs at the bar and soaked in the cooler weather outside on the back patio in the evening. It was all very lovely.

Sitting outside on the benches around the fire pit area in the evening, we were joined by quite a few rather large crawly bugs (water bugs? Roaches?) which eventually made us move our game of cards over to one of the high top patio tables instead. Not a big deal really, more of an inconvenience since we were so comfortable on the bench area with all the pillows and ambiance.

We had breakfast at Café Poppy, which adjoins the hotel. It was a perfectly good light breakfast and reasonably priced. Under normal circumstances, we would have broken fast at our beloved Bluebird Café, across the street, but, it being out of season, they were closed Mondays and Tuesdays. A side note: Dinner at the Golden Pig, also across the street from the hotel, was excellent.

Literally the only thing that gave us any trouble was a sticky key for door to our room. I asked at the desk, and the staff member immediately came to our assistance. Turns out the key was slightly twisted; once I knew I wasn't going to break anything, I just used a little force and english; and all was well. Presumably, the key has since been replaced.

Historic property was refinished with a very nice attention to detail. Large rooms with large bathrooms and good bathroom separation. Nice little coffee shop and bar in the lobby. Ideally positioned to jump off for some wine tasting, the redwoods, or the coast.

I would have liked blackout blinds. That is pretty much my only complaint.

Location, cleanliness, staff were friendly and accommodating and went above and beyond to meet our needs, food and wineries all within walking distance or a short 5-10 min drive.

The fact we had to leave. ☹️

We had a great stay, the staff was great. Loved the style and look of the hotel.

It is still an old building therefore you can hear anything - like the people next door snoring or people upstairs dropping something on the floor. I thought the hotel was great overall but was too expensive.

Optimally located close to wineries and within 1.5 hour drives to Mendocino National Forest, Lake County and Fort Bragg. Staff was very friendly, accommodating especially when everything was closed during Thanksgiving. Delicious food from the Poppy Cafe and kitchen. Great lounging areas, both indoors (library) and outdoors (fire pits). Very clean and newly renovated rooms with comfortable bedding and chic furniture. Highly recommended!

No trash can or waste bin in the room except in the bathroom. Staff could have also provided a breakdown of the invoice and charges at the end of the stay without customers having to ask for it.

This was the perfect stay with my dog. I loved the hotel and the town. The train tracks behind the hotel was the perfect spot to walk my dog. I will be staying here again when I’m back in the area.

Cool building, nicely done, great library, clean, friendly staff, unique

Dimly lit bathroom with bulbs that flash. Breakfast burrito was very bland, parking was sketchy out back.
