Economy Inn Los Banos

This property is a real gem. Although the dimensions of the room were smallish, the added interior design touches were very nice, a surprise considering that the room costs a lot less than other area accommodations. Who expects a coved ceiling in a motel room or tiled shower? The owner has installed huge arrays of solar panels on all three roofs, which he is working with PG&E to activate. He also plans to have EV charging stations on the property in the future. It may be called the Economy Inn but it feels like much more.

Could use a box of tissue paper in the rooms, a small quibble.

overall property was nice. Though obviously an older property, and not part of a chain, it felt like it was well cared for, clean, well maintained. almost a soft boutique feel to it.

Room had no phone, which seemed odd to me. Granted, most of us always have a cell phone, but still, just seemed odd… Also, the one request I made, asking for fresh towels, never received. Happened to see the desk clerk I made the request to as I was checking out, he made a point of saying he ‘had the towels at the desk for me’. Now if I asked for fresh towels as I was going out for the day, wouldn’t the logical assumption be to deceiver them to the room?????

I have been here multiple times and I keep coming back because it's small, quiet, clean, clearly well run, and walking distance to multiple places to eat. It's a 10-minute walk to "downtown" which is super modest but a charming stroll if you have some time on your hands. Water pressure is fab!

Yikes this is a tough one because it's such a good fit and because usually I am just there the one night (2x per year, coming and going) :-) My room is always on the smaller side which is fine for me but even a couple might collide in there. I am presuming they have bigger rooms but have never seen one. I have never had daily housekeeping service and have never been offered it but maybe it's upon request. But again I have never had need for it.

I have stayed here several times, it's on my California to Oregon route. Family owned & operated. It's on a busy street but the property itself is set back from the street so it's quiet. Very close to downtown and walking distance to varied food choices.

The main reason I like it there is, it's a good fit for me. I travel solo, only want to park a few feet from my room, and I hate stairs. This place checks all those boxes. But, some might find it super limited. The rooms are very small, fine for one but even two would be challenging. Not particularly well lit, there are no lamps, just an overhead light so reading is tough. I didn't want/need housekeeping, and I did see a housekeeper in the parking lot, but no one ever mentioned or offered me housekeeping so maybe you need to request it if you want it.

2nd visit: Property is maintained with obvious pride by the family owners. Very hospitable and kind to pets. Best is the lack of any issues: everything was clean, user-friendly, well-maintained, I particularly noticed this second stay that the bed and pillows were very comfy, a/c was easy to operate and very effective, the office icemaker was operating well, the frig in the room was efficient and froze ice, the plumbing/hot water was optimal, and the perk of having a 40" tv with extensive programming makes this my go-to stop on the Interstate 5. Great value with all their elaborate decor and lovely gardens. Even on a Friday night with a room close to their main street, the noise level was unexpectantly not bad. Kudos to this family for pride in their establishment.

For the value, this was as good as it gets.

Manager was super personable. I had a last-minute schedule change (was only supposed to stay 1 night but requested 2 more when I checked in and they were able to accommodate). Room was small, one of the smaller motel rooms I have experienced, but I included that here in the "Like" box because it was nicely decorated and big enough for me flying solo. If you are traveling with someone you'll be bumping into them.

The motel is on a very busy street, it's actually the Main Street in town (though a totally different street is named Main Street, in Los Banos they do things a bit differently). :-) It's set back slightly off the street but it's loud. (I carry a white noise machine with me when I travel so I was fine, but noise-sensitive travelers may have issues here.)

Room had everything I needed (refrig. and microwave). Bed was fine. Great chairs.

There were one on two insects in the bathroom (small crawling things: one on floor; one on shower curtain. Also, refrig. made too much noise for me when it cycled on. I had to uplug it so I could sleep. Was helpful that the plug was easily accessible.

I liked everything about this motel. Truthfully, I didn't expect the decree of pleasantry that I had. I arrived after 11pm, and the woman on duty was very friendly & kind.. Not rude in the least. She asked if I had any pets, which, I had one small dog.. But I couldn't find any spot on the website to declare my pet, when I made my reservation 2 days prior. The woman at check-in was very nice about it, and charged me $10 for my dog, with no issues at all. The presentation outside in the court of the motel was very well-kept. Very attractive. As I first pulled into the driveway, I was impressed and actually said, "Wow, this place is really attractive, I'm really impressed," to my son, who was traveling with me. The first thing I did when I entered our room, was check the mattress, sheets, pillow cases, around the headboard.. For any sign of bugs. NOT ONE hint of bug matter. Nothing. Perfectly clean, super clean. YESSSSSSS!! That was my biggest concern, when looking for an affordable place to stay. The bathroom was also perfectly clean. Tiles in the shower were beautiful, clean, corners and edges of the floor were properly clean.. Toilet, sink, awesome. I looked at everything well, because reviews of hotels and models are extremely important. There was a closet, ironing board, iron, hair dryer, desk, mirror, table/chairs and refrigerator in my room, with a queen bed. A/C worked great and easy to use without freezing overnight. This motel was FAR above my expectations of what I thought I might get. I would definitely, absolutely stay here again in the future, and I highly recommend this motel to everyone. (Oh.. And only 6 short miles from the interstate, I believe. Not far at all.) Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality, Economy Inn in Los Banos!

This motel has been upgraded and very nice. Staff was very friendly.

Unfortunately, the street noise from the trucks using the street is high. But.... This place is so nice, i'm gonna give them another try. Maybe a room further from the street would help.
