Cliff Dweller on Lake Superior

I liked the view of Lake Superior right from my balcony. I could see the lake right from my bed too. The staff was very welcoming and I received an immediate response when I needed assistance. The room was so clean and decorated with pine siding which is so appropriate for the North Shore. The microwave and refrigerator were immaculate and appeared to be new.

I appreciated the coffee service at 8 am every morning but it was a little late for me as I am an early riser. The steps up to the second floor are a bit steep. I learned to navigate them and I liked being on the second floor for the view. The steps could be a problem for some guests. The balconies are close together so there is not much privacy. However, I enjoyed meeting my neighbors on an adjoining balcony so the lack of privacy was not an issue for me.

The Cliff Dweller is a beautiful property located right on the lakefront. Comfortable, clean, rustic-themed rooms have gorgeous views of the lake and a wonderful deck on which to enjoy them. They offer a lovely start-your-day-off-on-the-right-note coffee/tea/hot chocolate and delicious pastry mini breakfast in a sunroom overlooking the lake. Angelia, at the front desk and everywhere, is professional, friendly, and always available to make sure your stay is perfect. The Cliff Dweller has it all…great location, gorgeous setting and rooms, and extraordinary customer service and caring! I will never stay anywhere else!

Nothing…it was perfect!

As the name implies, the Cliff Dweller on Lake Superior is located on a cliff high above Lake Superior and every room has a large balcony overlooking the lake. It was wonderful sitting on the balcony at sunset and having my breakfast there in the morning, and just as wonderful was falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing into the rocks below. On top of that, the staff were very friendly, the room was clean and appeared to be recently updated, and there was coffee and blueberry muffins in the sunroom in the morning.

This was my first time staying here and would definitely do so again. This hotel has been recently renovated. My room had pine walls and ceilings making it very cozy. My room was perfectly clean and charming. The bed was super comfortable with soft bedding. You can't beat the view from the sliding glass door overlooking Lake Superior. After skiing all day, I enjoyed just relaxing and enjoying the view before soaking in a hot bathtub. I never heard anyone else during my stay even though at least one room next to mine was occupied. I appreciated the morning muffins, granola bars, and coffee in the lobby.

Absolutely a “10!” Pride of ownership and management is a good way to describe Cliff Dweller. Our room was very updated & clean with nice beds, bedding, & towels. An extra bonus treat was delicious muffins & coffee in the lobby in the morning & was a great perk after skiing all day. Manager, Angelia, is a pleasure to meet and chat with. The room was newly remodeled, very clean, and well maintained. Very welcoming for a comfortable stay. Each room has a balcony with two chairs and a small table for enjoying the changing views of Lake Superior and viewing the shipping lane. Cliff Dwellers is located between Tofte and Lutsen, so there are several dining options close by. It is an easy half hour drive to Grand Marais. The Onion River Recreation Area is an easy five minutes walk from Cliff Dwellers with areas to picnic and to hike.

We chose the room for the view and were not disappointed. The view of Lake Superior from our balcony was magnificent! Although a little chilly, we sat out on the balcony and had a glass of wine the first evening. Beautiful view over the lake which was 10 ft from our room! Later that night, we were able to see Jupiter with our binoculars, the closest that planet would be for at least 100 years. The room was clean and comfortable. Free coffee in the morning was very much appreciated.

Loved the view of Lake Superior from our balcony! The room was perfect for two people--felt spacious and clean. It was great to have a refrigerator and microwave in the room, plus a table and two chairs in the room as well as on the balcony. Made it easy to enjoy a bowl of cereal or oatmeal and fruit in the morning in the privacy of our room. Location was super convenient to state parks and Grand Marais, and the owners were extremely welcoming. We will be coming back:)!!

Angie at the front desk was amazing! She was so sweet and check-was so simple. Added extra Covid/ contactless protocol. Room was adorable for price and the view from our room on Lake Superior was unbeatable. We came for a romantic weekend get-a-way to explore the north shore.

There was limited tv channels and not the strongest WiFi- neither of which bothered me personally since I came to disconnect and explore outdoors.

The view was awesome! The staff was friendly and courteous. The rooms are simple, yet cozy. I will definitely stay there again. The rooms were also quiet. The price was perfect for us. It is close to the fall's getaway. The view from the rooms is amazing! I loved sitting on the balcony to read even though it was windy and cold out.

They aren't open during the winter. When the stairs to the second floor got wet, they were slippery, and it would be easy to fall.
